Knotweed, what's your opinion about sugars and bacterial infections? I thought

honey has anti-bacterial properties.

When I was on antibiotics being treated by a well-respected LLMD (founding

member of ILADS) I was told not to take any form of sugar--not even honey or

agave-- because sugar feeds bacteria. I'm now off abxs and would like to use a

little honey in ginger & lemon tea.

<When I start using Buhner protocol again, I will probably take the approach of

measuring the right amount for a day and then mix it up with some honey (I used

yoghurt before, but that gives a pretty bad taste with most of the herbs).

I was wondering myself ;)

sugar is not good for lymies because of Candida risk (and a bit less bacterial

overgrowth risk, especially when on ABX). On the other side, honey indeed has

antibacterial properties. A research group in my country says this is mostly

because of a protein in the honey called defensin-1. I guess this also has

anti-fungal properties, because bees have problems with many types of

infections, not just bacteria.

But I have no idea if this protein can be found in commercial honey, if it

survives processing etc. - so if this propertie also applies to the honey that

you buy in the food shop.

Some types of honey are said to be immune stimulants (e.g. Mahuka Honey from New

Zeeland, but other types probably also have this effect to some extent). Mahuka

honey is extremely expensive here (exacty on the other side of the world ...).

Anyone who knows a bit more about honey, suggestions what to choose for mixing

with herbs? Maybe the more 'solid' type is more convenient for mixing with

herbs, so you can make some solid 'balls'?
