URGENT: tick head removal?

A friend mushrooming in the Pennsylvania woods yesterday afternoon

found a nymphal tick in his bellybutton and, digging around without

being able to see what he was doing, removed the body but not the

head. What is the best way to remove the head at this point?

Obviously, it's too late

for tweezers and i'm concerned that further digging is just going to

cause a release of possibly infected innards.
