Guest guest
The CD57 test is not a test to determine whether or not an individual has Lyme disease. The test is a measure of certain specific aspects of your immune system and it's ability to fight off infection. Dr. Stricker and a few others are looking at how a patient's immune system responds/reacts in relapsing and remitting chronic neuroborreliosis. Here's a link to a paper: LONGTERM DECREASE IN THE CD57 LYMPHOCYTE SUBSET IN A PATIENT WITH CHRONIC LYME DISEASE http://www.aaem.pl/pdf/aaem0217.htm The gist is that the CD57 lymphocytes, thought to be a subset of natural killer cells, are downregulated in chronic infection with borrelia. The test could be useful in determining if therapy was effective. For example, an initial CD57 test during a time of active infection may indicate a decrease in the CD57 subset. The mechanism for this is explained in the paper above. As treatment progressed, and the patient's symptoms improved, a subsequent CD57 test may show improvement of the numbers back to the normal range. Further interpretation of the results are beyond my ability. Here you can get more details on the test: http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/strickerpanel.html Rick > > This is my first post. Guest guest
There is a certain mathematical calculation to be done. My doctor did it, but I forgot to ask for a copy of it. I think he took the CD57% and divided it into the absolute lymphocytes to get the common CD57 value that is related to Lyme when it is below 200. My value ended up being a 50 which was enough confirmation to my doc that my Lyme from 16 years ago never healed with antibiotics and was probably a chronic case. > > This is my first post.
