When one goes into remission (I did for 8 months pre-diagnosis) what form are the spirochetes in? this is not really defined yet. There is the normal spirochete, the cyst (rolled up to form a round body), the l/CWD form and granules which are probably involved in reproduction. It is not clear which of these forms are really 'separate', e.g. a cyst will form quickly or revert back to spirochete depending on external conditions (not just as a result of ABX). Biofilm is an aggregate (colony) of bacteria, usually with different species, sometimes even more than 100 species. It is a bit similar to an organ in higher organisms, where activities are coordinated among the bugs in the biofilm, and certain bacteria specialise in specific tasks. L/CWD-form are versions without cell wall, as result they don't have a defined shape and less or no outside antigens. As with cysts, not everyone uses the same definition. They are supposedly the result of using cell wall antibiotics. Some people like Mattman think that the l-form is the dangerous form, it is linked to cancer and other diseases. In the patient there are probably at least spirochetes (normally in small quantity, either freeliving in the blood or deep in the tissue e.g. between collagen fibers) and more or less dormant cyst forms. It is very difficult to check this in real patients ... The granules are almost impossible to detect; they are known for treponema (syfilis) and they exist with Borrelia as well, but it is all illdefined.
