Guest guest
Has anyone ever heard of this before? I drink Rooibos tea all the time, so I was wondering about it’s connection to treating Lyme. I drink Rooibos tea all the time, so I was wondering about it’s connection to treating Lyme. there is a theoretical argument why it could work: Rooibos tea (totally unrelated to normal tea plants) has a relatively huge content of the enzyme SOD (SuperOxide Dismutase). This could be a factor for diseases like Lyme (MS, ALS, etc), especially if your own body does not make enough or all the body's own SOD is already used to fight the disease. It's a complicated subject, if interested check the wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superoxide_dismutase I don't think there is any proof it is effective for Lyme, but it certainly won't hurt. It is mentioned in several articles from herbs suppliers and general health websites, but I have no idea if that info is reliable. Some papers say the Rooibos contains SOD, others say it contains an 'SOD-like enzyme' or 'SOD-like activity'. SOD occurs widely in nature, so I guess it is possible to find such an enzyme in plants. Several scientific studies found that drinking rooibos tea increases anti-oxidant activity in the body, e.g. increase of serum SOD levels when there is oxidative damage (SOD is needed to repair oxidative damage). Guest guest
Knotweed, Thank you for the info. I started drinking it because I read that it has something like 50 times more antioxidants than green tea. I really like the taste so that is a bonus!
