Guest guest
I just had a bit of a relapse after three months of totally symptom-free existence (I've been on herbs the whole time, which is what makes the relapse unexpected)- though it's not as bad as previous relapses. Because I have to work insanely hard next month I put myself back on Doxy- I got cognitive dysfunction, red eyes, and severe tiredness symptoms two days ago, and have to drive 600 miles tomorrow, teach a seminar this weekend and drive 600 miles back on Tuesday, which is typical of the next month's to-do list, so I couldn't afford to wait and see if it goes away with just herbal treatment or if it gets any worse. Anyway, it reminded me that for the past four years or so I've been at my sickest right after the holidays, and in my case eating low-carb seems to be crucial to staying symptom-free. I'm guessing that eating a lot of sugary crap since Thanksgiving (ie Holiday parties and cockiness on my part) has something to do with this relapse. Anyone else have this experience this season? I seem to remember Selma talking about this last year also. A
Guest guest
Many of us do worse this time of year...partly due to stress...partly due to the seasonality and ups and downs of this whole mess we call Lyme ( plus there are a lot more viral and bacterial exposures what with us being indoors on top of fellow snifflers this time of year which taxes our immune systems) BUT Ive found that contrary to the Marshall folks , SOME of us are TOO low on Vit D by now...Ive been boosting both Evan and myself with 1000 IU Vit D ( tiny pills " micro-tabs " by Dr Weill's brand...good absorption) and while not feeling too well, after a month it has made a bit of a difference! Those of us who avoided the sun all summer due to herbs/abx that were phototoxic or who used sunscreens etc or were too ill to be outside should check their D levels. Much has recently been published in respected journals regarding the Vit D connection to immune system and general health as well as chronic illnesses. And how actually we need a LOR MORE than previously thought!! just a thought and Happy HEALTHIER New Yrs to all!! Guest guest
> My two cents is that I tend to do worse in winter; have always felt worse with low light conditions. I use a full spectrum light, as well as st johns wort, which improves health in general as well as lifts mood. My doctor has been working with me for well over a year trying to get my vit D numbers up into a healthy range. There are benefits to vit D, as Finette said, including immunity and breast cancer prevention. I have struggled to get the numbers up; I don't absorb it well apparently. I use a liquid D, which is better absorbed, plus fish oil, lecithin and HCL, all in an effor to get it absorbed. If the vit D is converted to D,1,25,Hydroxy, then you have problems that the Marshall protocol addresses. I havn't studied this thoroughly but I did request that my doc include testing of this metabolite when we test my D levels so I can be sure its just the D I'm getting. May the New Year bring improved health to all, jo > > Many of us do worse this time of year...partly due to stress...partly due to the seasonality and ups and downs of this whole mess we call Lyme ( plus there are a lot more viral and bacterial exposures what with us being indoors on top of fellow snifflers this time of year which taxes our immune systems) > > BUT Ive found that contrary to the Marshall folks , SOME of us are TOO low on Vit D by now...Ive been boosting both Evan and myself with 1000 IU Vit D ( tiny pills " micro-tabs " by Dr Weill's brand...good absorption) and while not feeling too well, after a month it has made a bit of a difference! > > Those of us who avoided the sun all summer due to herbs/abx that were phototoxic or who used sunscreens etc or were too ill to be outside should check their D levels. > > Much has recently been published in respected journals regarding the Vit D connection to immune system and general health as well as chronic illnesses.
