Guest guest
Hi jenny, I have a medic alert bracelet. It has a compartment that opens up. In that I have a piece of paper that says to check my purse or folder in my car for emergency medical information. You wouldn't necessarily want to list " Lyme, " but the various manifestations of Lyme that affect you health-wise. I have high blood pressure, seizure disorder, bipolar disorder, encephalitis. I'm also hypoglycemic. All good reasons to wear a bracelet. Even if it were " just Lyme, " you would want someone to know NOT to give you steroids if you ended up in hospital unconscious. When first diagnosed, I had a lot of problems with seizure auras, and drove very little. There were many times when I felt I might end up parked on the side of the road in an emergency situation. I only drove routes that had break-down lanes in case of emergencies. Our Texas heat also caused me a lot of heat-stroke complications, and being out and about was problematic, even for the short periods I was outside the car. I also list all my medications, and my doctors name and contact info in case of emergency. An alert bracelet can protect you in a medical emergency, or from legal hassles should you not " be yourself " because of these types of conditions when you are out in public and start acting or looking " strange " (in the opinion of others) because of your condition. Even your meds can bring about unexpected, adverse reactions. The bracelet I have allows you to put four conditions on the face of the bracelet, and it opens up. I used to list all my conditions inside the bracelet, but now I just refer them to the list in my purse or car folder. Guest guest
Hi, , I never even thought of this. Is it something we really should have? Have you been advised to get one? Please let me know your thinking on this, because if I really need one, I will get one. Thanks, Kate medic alert bracelet > Hello All. > I just wanted to share a web site with all of you who might be interested in getting a medic alert bracelet. The jewelry from this site is very fashionable (so I thought). > www.medicid.com > Take care everyone. > > Nov. 6, 2002 > 376/257 > >
Guest guest
Hi Kate. It was never recommended to me---it was just a thought that occurred to me. I am a big stickler on listening to any inner voices---so I went ahead and got one. I didn't want one that really " looked " like a medic bracelet, so when I found the website and saw their products, I got one. I look at it this way---it's a nice piece of jewelry, it forever stays on my wrist, I almost forget it's there, but I feel more secure in knowing that if something should happen to me where I can't speak and I'm alone, at least the doctor will know they my stomach is different than others and hopefully give me " special " treatment. This is totally a decision to make for yourself. Take care. medic alert bracelet > > > > Hello All. > > I just wanted to share a web site with all of you who might be interested > in getting a medic alert bracelet. Guest guest
Hi Kate. I could only have two lines with 25 characters each, so I put on there: Mini Gastric Bypass EM: Dr. Rutledge (his phone number) I don't have allergies or any other health problems, so two lines was enough. I know they have some other bracelets that can accommodate more. medic alert bracelet > > > > > > > > > > Hello All. > > > > I just wanted to share a web site with all of you who might be > > interested > > > in getting a medic alert bracelet. Guest guest
I have heard about a medic alert bracelet for Harrington Rods. Something to ask your surgeon. I do know, at least in Canada, you can legally have the airbags disabled if you have to sit within 12 inches and/or other requirements. This is because of the force that the bags come out at, which could seriously injure you or worse. It's always a good idea to carry a list of medication and other serious conditions in your wallet, in case of that emergency. He said that I can go to PT now for the back (I was doing some light stuff earlier b/c of my neck - compensatory curve didn't really like all the laying around!), but he really wants me to get into the pool. I will, but hesitant b/c, for one, I can't shave my legs myself! My hubbie has done it once, but grumbled ) . I will go, and the local pool has an aqua therapy program. He also recommended massage b/c of the lumpy tissue (so glad it's not the rods I feel!) One question I have though is whether anyone has a formal letter or medic alert bracelet b/c of the rods, etc.? Is it true that MRIs can't be done with some implants? ...and what about for safety reasons like an accident where you couldn't give your info? .. Guest guest
I have a Medic-Alert bracelet and card I carry with me. I haven't worn the bracelet for over the three years, but always carry the card in my wallet. It isn't only for the rod, but because I've got some medication issues that people need to be aware of.
