A new version of the malware, dubbed Conficker B++, is spreading like wildfire, thanks to a newly unplugged security hole and self-updating features. The new version allows the virus to download updates that could potentially give it new abilities and ways of spreading. It also skips the download of Antivirus XP, a fake security program that once lured victims into handing over credit card information and later became a dead giveaway of a Conficker infection.Experts believe that older versions of the virus will not be able to automatically update to the newer version and that systems with the proper security updates from Microsoft should be safe. But that's no excuse for letting yourself get comfortable. Programs such as Conficker are dangerous, and only your own due diligence can keep you safe. So run regular scans and keep Windows, as well as your anti-virus and anti-spyware tools, up-to-date. [From: CNET] Next >> 'What is Conficker and Should You Be Worried?' Guest guest
Thank you for this VERY interesting article. I got a conflicker virus a few weeks ago. out of the blue i got a warning(which looked like it was from windows) saying I was infected and did I want to remove the threat. Once I clicked on yes, I could no longer go on line, it was the only thing I could see and it wanted my credit card info to pay to get rid of the threat. even when I hit ctrl, alt delete which of course normally would allow you to get to task master and shut off what you want to...it instead gave a message that the ADMINISTRATOR of the pc had locked me out of task master... I tell you a very scary worm , takes over in seconds. i ended up having to take my computer to a tech...and ALOT of money later...I am free of the threat. Hopefully the posting of this article will save others the trouble of this pest. Again Thank you From: <marerob_2000@...>Subject: [] New Version of Conficker Virus Can Update Itself & more..."AAAAAAAAA" <aaaaaaayourspecial@...>Date: Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 7:43 PM New Version of Conficker Virus Can Update Itself by Terrence O'Brien, posted Feb 24th 2009 at 12:54PM http://www.switched .com/2009/ 02/24/new- version-of- conficker- virus-can- update-itself/ Just as Microsoft has decided it's done playing games, and has put a price on the head of the hackers behind Conficker, the elusive cyber-criminals have upped the ante.
