Guest guest
This post is a beginning of a serious commitment to possibility, and serves no other purpose. It is simply a working, and ongoing " work product " to shift into high gear the potential at creating an " intentional community " , yet, because of the economy, housing issues with many, job losses and/or concerns and numerous other factors, it will serve " to craft " some workable answers. While I, as well as others, have their ideas of what an intentional community is, and what it would become, it's core values and ways of doing business, existing in reality, the case may be that comes " after-the-fact " . Many have lost jobs, their homes, their belongings, their motivations. Many are living in their cars, if they still have them, in tent cities, piling up in homes of friends and families, etc... Still, many others see this is a coming possibility more and more, yet afraid or unsure just what to do about it. While I would like to see some organizations go to work creating real intentional community temporary tent cities in every location, pulling in tent or other shelter consideration donations, setting up 24 hour kitchens, with donated foods but also operating their own gardens, making use of alternative ideas in how they are run [non-govt/non-corporate failures], such as using wind turbines to power, composting toilets, recycling, etc...and at the same time giving some great ideas to those coming on how to become sustainable. Find or create mom/pop businesses, etc... It is an operation best done by those in greater positions. However, based on the idea of creating an intentional community within the central Alabama area, but with perhaps the beginnings of which are more akin to the temporary solution mentioned, I am in search of the right piece of land, with the more sustainable built in's the better. This may be a purchase outright, a gift, or some long term lease. There's plenty of possibilities but to comes down to reality... Whose truly interested? Who truly can up and leave where they are now, move to central Alabama, and even live in a tent or other like sheltering till things can be made better, more comfortable? Who has any amount of funds to put towards such a move, towards the shared expense, towards their own expenses, and it work out much better than current possibilities? I suggest everyone, regardless of your situations begin to get back to the old days when families did move back in with each other and share. That's how they made it, how they survived, how they built themselves back up. The point really is, if things are, or fixing to be, or soon could become very real for you, would you want to end up at your cities next tent city, or, in such a place, more " intentional " , more in tune with some of your own feelings in becoming sustainable, keeping families intact, sharing in much of the ideas you have, and the possibility it can become the full intentional community envisioned, or crafted to become at some point. Or maybe, a place much safer, and saner than some of the alternatives if you do nothing about it now. Even if you move on later. I've included a link to some of the land possibilities I've run across below. They range from a few acres to many, from a several tens of thousands to close to a million...some have little but space to others with stocked ponds, springs, barns, fields, etc... None of the underlying cost or deals are that important when it comes to those who were committed to possibilities. Hell, if you have a million people and we all put in a buck each, well...you get the point. If I already had the proper place, you know the door would be thrown open wide...might have to bring a tent, set up and outdoor kitchen, place your extras under some tarps...but, " you'd be home " . You might find you a local job of any kind and pitch in on the food, etc... or help with building a wind turbine for power, or working in a garden for food, making all we need, picking up donations of all kinds to use, share or sell [you'd be surprised what some give away around here.] The point being, in one way or another, we'd make it work. Other details and any problems would be worked out together...as we all it's not that easy to live with or around others if your not use to it. What I need from you? Not the " I'd like to do that someday " . I've said that for so many years I've forgotten how long now. I'm looking for " yes " , we'll come on a moments notice, their x number in our family, we'll be bringing xxx, we can contribute x amount of money, ad/or x amount of whatever will be useful. Even if you have nothing but your shirt on your back and it's borrowed, say that..I'm not selling memberships, or acres, or " a place " . If I send out a notice and say hey, we found xyz property for lease, has what we need, and 200 people interested this moment in coming, I need five dollars from everyone right now to make it so, then it has to be that direct, that pointed, and takes that commitment to make it happen. Others who may come later would have a different set of options, we all would. This is not an invitation to the Garden Of Eden...it will not be the answer to all your possible problems...and may even provide for some new ones. But I can say this...It Is A Possibility that is real. I can feed my family with my last two dollars, or possibly, I can pool it with many others and we all eat. Just a thought. Replies to email are ok, especially for more privacy in responses, knightsintention@... or reply to this post in the places I have put it. I can only get the fire started, it's up to you to decide to bring some wood, and if it becomes something of warmth, and life giving.
