Guest guest
Hi Bren, and welcome to the group! What a relief it is that the X- rays came back ok! Your son is at a terrific age to achieve some wonderful improvement if he does end up needing a helmet. I'm so happy to hear that you were able to learn from this group already, it really is a wonderful resource of information! Good luck to you and Aiden in two weeks, and please let us know how it goes! Guest guest
Hello Bren and welcome. Sounds like your doctor has been right on top of things and that is great! I'm glad your doctor told you about repositioning. It has proven to be quite effective for many moms and dads in the group. Some parents have gotten all the correction they wanted from repositioning and some have gotten some correction with repositioning and then went ahead with the band/helmet to finish the job. Either way, repositioning is a valuable tool. If you are advised to get the band then I feel confident in saying you will probably never regret that decision. Do you know what kind of device you would be getting? DOCband, STARband or locally made helmet? All of these are good for treating plagio, but you should thoroughly interview the ortho first and make sure they have a lot of experience. Best of wishes to you and please keep us posted on Aidan's progress. (I love that name!) Marci (mom to ) Oklahoma

You sound like great parents pushing to get to the bottom of what's happening with - your on the right track! Are you seeing a pt once a month for measurements, or is that the Doctor your referring to? Have you noticed any problems with looking in both directions? Does he tilt his head a lot? It may be tort, but I really can't say without hearing more and even seeing a picture of would be great. Lots of times when you see a pic, you can either say, that looks like my child, or no, that's not it. Also, do some research on plagio and decide for yourselves if your child needs a helmet, sometimes your Doctor will either be totally for it or very much against it- so you should also be educated enough to know what to look for and be able to make a decision for yourselves- just in case you need to push for that referral like you pushed for those x-rays (good job!). And the earlier the better if you do opt to go that route (you can check out before and after pics of kids that may look similar at www.cranialtech.com). Look forward to getting to know you better and I hope to see a pic of too! Keep us posted. ' Mom

I'm not sure about the locally made helmets. It is amazing how fast and how well the babies take to them. Guest guest
Jenn, It sounds like your son has torticollis. It's a tight neck muscle. It sometimes goes hand in hand with plagio. I'm sure our tort lady will chime in here and give you some really good links and advice about tort. My daughter had it and was in physical therapy twice a week for 3 months. Here's a web site for you to check out. http://www.pedisurg.com/PtEduc/Torticollis.htm > his head is flat on the right hand side in the back, he had a flat spot when he was born but i thought nothing of it at the time.. i am attempting to try the whole repositioning thing but he favors that side of his head.. so he screams when he cannot turn his head that way.. when feeding him i tried switching the arm i hold him in.. and he still turns his head the other way.. i tried last night to put a blanket near his head to position him so he was laying on the other side of his head.. i literally watched him wiggle and wiggle till he somehow moved the blanket so he could lay on that side of his head.. he hates his tummy.. so i am at a loss.. i would just keep him his little strap on carrier.. but i have a 1 year old that i have to contend with too.. so i cannot always be wearing him > jenn > virginia beach, va > " Where abouts is your son's head flat, left, right, back? Guest guest
Jenn- I agree with that you might want to look into tort playing a factor in all of this. That tort makes repo so hard! Can't believe you have a one year old too! Wow! My daughter is 22 months older than Dane. I can relate to how hard it is to repo while you are carrying for a toddler who is into everything! Guest guest
Jenn: I agree with , it definitely sounds like he has torticollis. Tort. is a leading cause of plagio, and with your description of him being unable to turn his head in the other direction, that is a sure sign of tort. Tort. is corrected thru physical therapy with stretches & such. Check out the great link sent with you. Has your ped. ever mentioned tort to you? (doesn't sounds like he has) Sounds like you're a busy busy mom with 2 little ones. Good luck to you. Guest guest
RL, Thanks for posting this. Cranial Tech. (CT) is not just making a sales quota!! They have sent many of parents home to try repositioning. They give an honest opinion. They specialize in Plagiocephaly of all shapes and are the true experts. This is all they do! Family members are normally your worst critic when it comes to banding. Deciding to band is the hardest part of the whole process! It is a personal decision that no one here will ride you about. NOBODY can tell you not to band or not. Trust your mommy instincts and go from there. You certainly have done a great job up to this point, 1st the trip to CT, and 2nd, finding us! Be sure and let us know what y'all decide to do. Dustie > Hello everyone. I just found this group today. My > daughter had a consulation with Cranial > Technologies today. Guest guest
Hi RL & welcome to our group! PLEASE don't feel guilty about your daughter's plagio for one more second. This is truly an epidemic ever since the "back to sleep" campaign began. I've seen many more babies spend more time on their back than my daughter, but yet, have a perfectly round head. Why it happens to some & not others, is a question we'll never have the answer to It's very frustrating. I can assure you, Cranial Technologies would not band your daughter if she truly did not need one. I've read of Cranial Tech turning away parents who wanted a band, but CT did not feel they were severe enough. They are honest, caring people who have the child's best interest in mind, not their profit margin Your daughter will be in the best hands possible for treatment! I've heard GREAT reviews about the NJ clinic & their OT Charlotte!! They are the plagio experts How old is your daughter now? Good luck w/the MRI Friday. But now that my son Jake has finished with his band and his head is looking great, I feel much better about all of this. We went to Cranial Tech in Paramus and they are all great there. If Charlotte says your daughter would benefit from the band I'd take her advise. You can also check out the pictures other parents have posted here. Guest guest
The thing with gallstone pain is that it's hard to tell when you're going to get it next. Sometimes it can be years before it returns. I've been dianoised as having gall stones by my doctor, and they've also shown up twice on xrays. I've had them for years. For me, the pain is caused by eating fatty meals. When I feel the pain, I'll try to drink about 2-3 glasses of simple tap water. That will dull the pain. I'm trying to avoid the surgery too. Besides that, I don't do anything else(except trying to loose a few pounds). I haven't had serious pain in over 3 years, but when I feel the beginning of that pain these days I just start drinking water. Ironically I discovered that water did the trick when I was given medication to dull that pain. The medication never really had much effect, but I discovered when I drank more of the water, the pain stopped! Simple, but effective! Have you tried that? kelticvamp <kelticvamp@...> wrote: Hello folks I wanted to introduce myself. I was referred to this group after seeing a post at Curezone. I was told what foods to avoid comletely ( fatty, fried, white flour, sugar, sweets etc.) The list is endless. Anyway I drink alot of distilled water, and I took the Gold Coin Grass to break down what the technition was a very large stone which explains the extreme pain. It has helped and during an attack I did castor oil fomentations, used the heating pad alot, And at all costs avoid the foods you know set the attacks in action...keep track of the foods you are eating and drink alot of organic apple juice. Especially if you are considering a flush. Which I will be embarking on real soon. I will not have my GB removed no matter what. Read s Moritz's amazing Liver cleanse. Good Luck. In my thirties I was dx'd with chronic fatigue syndrome, then fibromyalgia. In my forties I was dx'd with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and sjogren's syndrome. My PM doctor suggested that maybe I have some sort of mixed connective tissue disorder, but when I read about it, I really don't have any of the diseases that meet that criteria. It's just kinda frustrating going ahead into the unknown....which I'm sure you know well. My girls were older, 9 and 11, when I started getting sick, so they unfortunately got to see me change right before their eyes. That was hard.
