Humility is an often misunderstood virtue.  True humility is not merely modesty: it is the ability to step away from ego.  When we approach situations with a perspective of humility, we open ourselves to new ideas because we are not being defensive of our own point of view.  We move away from being restrictive into being allowing, from being insecure to being secure, from seeking approval to seeking enlightenment. We forget about the need to be right and instead, we open the door to understanding.
