Auspicious memory

You, auspicious memory

are still the only sun

in my sky.

Though now

you shine brightly

for someone else.

My eyes, my mind,

and my heart eternal

remembers vividly

every breath and every soft word

spoken by your mouth or eyes.

Why our paths crossed.

Why you were not meant

to fulfill my need for love,

these things I cannot answer

and will never understand.

Though with certainty and clarity,

I can vow

to you,

to the Heavens,

and to any definition of God,

that no one,

absolutely no one

could wear

even the shadow of you.

You, auspicious memory

made me feel alive.

You were the blood in my veins

and the words

of effortless colorful poems.

I can think of nothing

which you were not...

Everyone and everything

falling short.

All lacking your substance

and your tender magic.

I watch the clock.

The minute hand

spiraling you farther

into the past.

Chapters in the book

of what once was

gathers more dust,

and all I can do is sigh.

The feeling of not feeling,

only remembering.

So haunting.

So empty.
