Dear RhondaWe are delighted to announce that Olympic gold medallist Leisel will be travelling to Portugal next month to be a voice for the world's whales at the International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting from June 22-26.

WSPA has attended the IWC yearly to highlight whale welfare in the ongoing fight to protect whales all over the world. This June Leisel will be helping WSPA to tell the IWC and governments worldwide about the excruciating pain and terror every whale must endure when it is hunted and killed.

There is no humane way to kill a whale at sea. The methods used are cruel, outdated and completely contradictory to current international guidelines for the humane slaughter of animals. The intense pain and distress caused by whaling is a fact that can't be refuted by whaling nations and is the reason most Australians are so strongly opposed to whaling.

So far the WSPA has collected almost 10,000 messages from Australians stating their opposition to whaling on welfare grounds and urging Minister Garrett to be the leading voice on whale welfare.

In the run up to the IWC next month, WSPA is asking Australians to keep sending in their messages. Leisel will deliver these to the IWC on behalf of all Australians opposed to the cruel practice of whaling. So please, if you haven't already done so, lodge your opposition to whaling today.
