Guest guest
Good Morning Pat. Thank you...Thank you... Thank you.... I'm not out that much, but when I am I generally need to use 411 , to see where someone is located cause I'm lost or just can't find somewhere. Call somebody well...you know what I mean. The A-L yellow pages are about 4 " thick then M-z the same, then the residence pages..... PLUS Maybe with you too, alot of us can't remember shit... where I even wrote the number down and forgot the piece of paper I wrote it on. I admit to being a 411 junky. I add 20.00 to the bill just to ATT, not to mention cell. DelThis is the beat news Financial news to wake up to!!! Guest guest
Boo, That's why I mentioned the size of the phone books. They will not fit in my pocket, and sometimes I find myself in a situation where I may be lost, going to a new doctor, or while I' am out going to the doctor, I sometimes try to get other things done, and it will be very convenient for me to dial 1-800-373-3411, than to figure out which buses I need to get to (in the heat especially!), and call a store and ask about what ever product I may want. AND...if it is in stock. AND.. exactly where they are. Bus Drivers can normally tell you what you need to take to get somewhere, if you know where your going.... I don't like to waste time on Houston Metro, God Bless them. They are good, but unless I know my route well, I find I'm nervous and fidgety from looking for my stop. PLUS... believe it or not there aren't many places in a spread out city like this to find phone books, or that many payphones...since the rise of the cell phone. Your 411 calls don't have to be $2.95 any more.... They even answer the phone with something like Thank you for calling 411!! I REALLY needed it today, because the phone company and I (me first) got a recording from my mom's phone saying it was disconnected. The ATT people said it was my phone, or on my end, The SBC people said my phone was fine. What to do??? She's old and lives alone.. I called the Andover Ks. Police dept. to please send a cruiser by there to knock on the door. It was handled in ten minutes, she is fine. Did ATT or SBC have the ANdover Police Dept #?? NOPE!! 1-800-373-3411 did. for free!! I don't know why my activities rely on this service so much..but I am REALLY glad it doesn't cost $295 a call. PLUS/// even if the old company that charges gives you a wrong number they still charge you ...no credits allowed. I'm finally done. Has anyone heard from ? I may have a phone number if she has the same cell service... Let me know and I'll find it. DelKathy Brunow <kathy-boo@...> wrote: Del!!!! Use the Yellow pages!!!! Very easy and costs nothing.. Guest guest
The 1-800-free-411 is free because you have to listen to an ad first, according to snopes. The way it works in practice is that a caller who requests a business number is first presented with a short (about 12 seconds) audio advertisement for a sponsor who operates a competing business in that area; the caller is then given the option of being connected to either that competitor or the business he originally requested. If no sponsor operates a local competing business, then the caller hears no advertisement at all. (In the latter case, if the caller accepts the option to connect to the desired number, the business receiving the call hears a short message at the beginning advising them that the call was placed via Free-411, and a Free-411 salesman may follow up with them a few days later to solicit them as a potential advertiser.) (Cell phone users concerned that taking advantage of the free directory assistance service will entail potentially giving out their cell phone numbers to telemarketers should note that federal law already prohibits certain types of telemarketing calls from being placed to cell phones, and all phone users can block telemarketing calls by listing their numbers with the national Do Not Call registry.) We made three separate trial calls to 1-800-FREE411 asking for information on different local businesses, and in each case the voice recognition system smoothly processed all our spoken information and correctly identified the businesses of interest. In only one trial out of the three were we presented with an audio advertisement. Free-411 also offers directory assistance information via a free web site. http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/nothing/free411.asp Re: Fw: Free 411 Boo?
