Are you on any medication? How much? Which ones? Have you been tested? What are

your results and what are the ranges for those results? It's too difficult to

evaluate from what you've said. There's not enough information.

can anyone suggest foods that can help hypothyroidism? i sleep constantly and am

depressed.  perhaps I need to increase my intake of fruits and vegies.

I will also see an endocrinologist.

Yes but still, the very fact that she is diagnosed means that she , like me is

seeking info on food that relates - diet issues that help/harm.

Pilar - I have been after the same info..hard to find.

Hi Pilar,

Unfortunately, if you are suffering from hypothyroidism you will not be able to

make it better with any kind of food.  Your first step should be to get a TSH

test which can be performed by your family doctor.  Once they determine what

your levels are, they can begin to treat with a T4 supplement like Synthroid.

It can take a while for you to start feeling better as the process of finding

the correct dosage can be cumbersome.  It took 9 months for them to find the

correct dosage for me, though i did start feeling better well before then.  I

now take 137mcg a day and have been feeling fine, though I keep an eye on it as

I believe i have Hashimoto's, as it was under control then started getting

worse.

Regarding food, increasing fruits and veggies is always a good idea.  I have

been told to stay away from Walnuts and anything with Soy in it.  I've also

heard to limit my pork intake.

You need to eat a healthy diet but beyond that foods aren't going to

help. You have to have T3 [which normally you make from T4] if your

body does not produce it or you will die.

Foods that are called goitrogens [Google it] should probably be limited

or avoided; but personally I don't bother. Soy [at least if

unfermented] is a no-no, but I try to avoid it as much as possible

anyway [given that it is in so many foods it's almost impossible to

avoid completely].

Luck,
