I really don't care anymore what my friends say. We're all hitting our very late 40s and early 50s. Most them are on least one perscription medication now and look a lot older than me especially their skin. I know they think I'm obsessed with food....I too travel every single week for 2 hours for my dairy and often further for my meat. Plus my food bill ...I never tell anyyone that considering I cook EVERYTHING from scratch! But you know what..... they sure do like eating at my house! I'm the " gourmet cook " and no really knows why I just seem to make such tasty food. I have tried to " educate " people but now I just don't say too much. People get too weirded out to hear I eat lard, raw dairy, tons of butter....not too mention the raw meat and liver I regularly consume. Well hope this helps......I don't know how old you are but I'm finding out one of the best things about getting older is just not caring what other think about how I live my life! Take care, Lynn
Guest guest
>One of my friends just told me she thinks I have an > " eating disorder " because I'm so " obsessed " with food. My favorite comment in that regard came from someone I know ... she commented that " your life is all about food! " (It really isn't, it's about programming too, but how can you talk to non-programmers about programming????). Anyway, she goes to France every so often because she just LOVES to food there -- you know, that nice, simple NT-friendly peasant food with fresh ingredients? She stays at farmhouses. Kind of like we serve daily ... I kind of think that while you are learning ANYTHING you become " obsessed " with it. That is how humans learn. Right now you are probably learning about how you personally should eat ... which takes a lot of thinking and brain power. If you start starving yourself or binging and purging, THEN you have an eating disorder and should get some help. Most NT people are far from starving though. I've sort of learned not to talk about the current thing I'm learning with people I know, though, unless they happen to be on the same track, because I know I bore them to tears. I cook for a bunch of people daily, and I just don't talk about WHY I'm cooking this particular thing unless they ask. " Don't ask, don't tell " . If I don't say anything, their interpretation is that I'm cooking " gourmet " -- when you sautee in fat and use fresh herbs and vegies, most folk interpret that as " fancy " . A REALLY good movie on food obsession though, that I recommend to any NT'er, is " Mostly Martha " . I write long tomes on the Internet though, and write chapters in my food book -- that way if people are bored they can just turn the page! -- Heidi

Well, that is the nice thing about lists. I go to my programming list to talk about programming, food list for food, politics list for politics ... for my kids and hubby, I just feed them nice food and give them hugs, read books together and play games :-) I think if our society was not so dysfunctional though, eating right wouldn't be QUITE such an occupation. In Italy not long ago, and probably still, it was *normal* for the mother to start cooking dinner in the middle of the afternoon, and spend hours making pasta and drying fruits or whatever. Usually with company. She probably didn't have to drive to heckandgone to pick up good milk and butter, but a lot was done by hand. Nowadays it is considered quite normal to spend 5 hours a night watching TV, but spending 2 hours cooking dinner is " weird " ! -- Heidi

Guest guest
I've been obsessed with food all my life. My gods, I used to wiegh almost 300#. Processed food?...you betcha!!! As I told a friend, the worse it was for me the more I *LOVED* it. I'm not kidding. Heck, I used to worship at the gold arches, paid homeage to the " grill " at the king's domain, bought a bucket o'bird just for a snack, and let me say that my absolute favorite meal in the whole wide world is SANDWICHES! Still is...but I haven't had one in a very long time. Health food? I tried that route during my early 20's in the mid 1980's... didn't wash... bland, boring and what? No sugar? What is this CAROB? YUCK-O! Ye as I walk through the shadow of a whopper I will fear no chemicals.... I'm still obsessed with food, though on a wholly different level. I have friends and family that put up their hands and say " Please! I don't want to know! " when I begin to share the horrors of processed food. That's what I run up against most often. I don't think I've had anyone accuse me of being food obsessed...at least.....not since eliminating the bulk of processed foods (wow, you could take that two ways, LOL) but I do get a lot of people that simply DO NOT WANT TO KNOW! I'm currently reading " Fast Food Nation " , sharing the information seems to be taboo among my co-workers and a few members of my family (I really am not a social person so my friends are quite limited to co-workers and people online). My husband on the other hand is almost as sickened as I am and he's extremely supportive of the path I've chosen. The other thing is that people will believe whatever the media tells them. It's amazing really, because I am one of those people that ALWAYS has the television on. I enjoy sitcoms, drama and Animal Planet. But I don't watch the news and I don't read the newspaper. I can't. I get so depressed, angry and downright obnoxious when I read it. Not only because of what I read, but because I don't believe most of what I hear. It's all such a contortion and fabrication of the truth. We're spoonfed whatever big brother wants us to hear and people eat it up like icing on birthday cake. Maybe I'm a fatalist, maybe I'm a conspiracy freak. I don't know! Heck, I don't even know if what I read is the truth. So it's up to me. It's up to me to decide what I am going to do everyday of my life and it's up to me how I'm going to live. I think it's terrible that people would think that just because you're concerned about what goes into your temple, they would call you food obsessive. Is no one ever happy? If you were to eat yourself into a coma with processed foods your obsessed. If you're aware and concious of what you eat...you're obsessed. I believe that there are simply too many people too busy with their neighbors porch. My response, keep your own porch clean and let me keep mine. :-) I agree with Christie. Passionate and obsessed are two entirely different things. Obsessed is when nothing else matters, passionate is when everything matters. ;-) RVT, VDT Mailto: MinatoNeshoba@... Guest guest
Hey ..... You go girl!!!!!! I just went to my folks over the fourth and to put it nicely, I will be burying my them in less than 10 years and they are only 60. My mom is hunched over more every day, and considers tums as an adequate form of calcium, has gall stones and won't listen to me on how to fix it, when I offer a alternative to a health condition she says " I haven't seen any advertisement on TV that confirms your information " . My dad is on 4 meds for hi blood pressure and hi cholesterol, and will only eat margarine on his white bread, and donuts are his source of " good fats " . My sister(39) has type two diabetes and is now going blind, and laughs about it, her sons are ADHD and one is 4 " 3 and 200lbs the other 6' and 93lbs. My younger brothers children (3) are on ridaline, my other younger brothers girl 10 is loosing her facial structure, her jaw is receding and she weighs about 40 lbs, she refuses to eat dinner then goes to her room to fill up on candy bars from easter & halloween ect, the son is hyperactive to the extreme, and there mother is a doctor. My mother for a birthday party was MICRO WAVING ground meat in a plastic bag prior to cooking them in vegetable oil pam on teflon with a metal spatula, and of course microed the hot dogs as well. They take it as offensive that I bring my own food and cook it and don't let my daughter eat the stuff they are cooking. I let my daughter eat the bisquick pancakes and sugar flavored grape jelly with margarine the alternative was corn syrup flavored with vanilla, I should say let her try to eat it, my 7 year old daughter refused, eat the bacon and an egg I made her instead. For the birthday party we had ben and Jerry's ice cream, my mom open the vanilla and screamed and began to throw it away till i looked at it and asked what was wrong with it, she said it had dirt in it and how could they sell that for the price she paid for it(this was there attempt to soothe my stay by buying the " high priced ice cream " ) I said that's a ground up vanilla bean Mom. Oh " they didn't say anything about that on TV " . This was on saturday afternoon ,I had arrived on friday evening around midnight, I was about to loose my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need less to say it was the same till in left, TV on in 3 rooms, every medical commercial screened for the new pill that would make them live forever.... all the while my mom commenting on how my daughter was so good at the store, so good at the angel museum, eats all her food and helps with the dishes, and is a good artist, and plays well with anybody, and even lets my mom wash her up after eating, not unlike all her other corn syrup driven/ ridaline addicted/type two diabetes/ non eating/ never sit still grandchildren she has to put up with(direct quote) when they visit. Yes it is very frustrating answering questions to a non family member about nutrition and what it fade out through the other ear. What really tears a whole in you is when you have supplied information to your family, who are dying before your eyes, and they take a person on a network programs information to heart, a person of whom they have never met, nor know who he works for.....
