Several folks brought up yeast/stomach probs w/abx. One asked for an

LLMD in PA/NJ/NY. Here are my 2 cents: probiotics are essential -

several dift strains best, including pre-biotics. High-quality brands

are Florastor,Theralac, and another is Prescript Assist Pro (this

needs to be ordered by a doctor). Whole Foods has good probiotics

(buy refrigerated only). Our family has been on abx for 2

yrs+ and have had little problem with yeast. When we have, it has

been b/c we've slipped on our diet - usually around holiday time, or

slipped with our probiotics.

Re: yogurts -- you have to read the labels -- yogurt with sugars does

little good, and can be very bad (some have lots of sugar). Eat

yogurt or Kefir (Whole Foods, health food stores, some grocery

stores) 1-2x a day with plain fruit/berries. Another note: you can

do all the probiotics in the world, but if you don't change your diet

(no sugars, low carb, low yeast - see Low Yeast diets on the web),

you will continue to fight a yeast battle - you need to do both.

Also - You can get an intestinal herx from the antibiotics.

Stomach/gastro symptoms are lyme and co-infection related -- and

nausea a Babesia symptom for just a few. Therefore, you may

experience an increase in these symptoms ascribed to the antibiotics

(many doctors may think these are allergic reactions). I had never

had many stomach symptoms but when I was put on Biaxin, I had

horrible stomach issues, including reflux -- interestingly enough,

over time (about 6 wks), these symptoms slowly disappeared instead of

getting worse, even though I didn't change anything in my

pro/prebiotic routine and continued with the Biaxin. I now have no

stomach or reflux issues with Biaxin at all (and many other symptoms

went away as well). Another example of this is before I was diagnosed

with Lyme+ - I started having strange reactions to antibiotics -

rashes and other stuff which my docs at the time all thought

were " reactions/allergic responses " to the antibiotics. After being

dx'd and treated, I re-learned that these were really " herxes " and

sure enough, they all want away after persisting through the herxes.

Sometimes this is hard to assess -- but if they are not life-

threatening, you can persevere through them and see if they

disappear - if they do, it clearly isn't a " reaction/allergic

response " .

Attached is a link to a NJ doc well-known for

his work on gastro/int issues in Lyme+. He has published articles re:

culturing bacteria in the gut that were the root of these

issues. See: http://www.lymepa. org/html/ about_martin_ fried__md. html

He can be googled for his articles, and is in practice as an LLMD.

If I had major stomach issues, that's where I'd go.

And lastly, if any of you are in the Philadelphia Suburbs and

interested in activism, I encourage you to contact me - we have an

advocates group in Montgomery County PA that continues to grow. The

families and individuals affected by these diseases need to work

together to build awareness to the best of our ability; the severe

impact of these diseases, especially on children/young adults cannot

remain invisible. Email: MontCoLymeaol (DOT) com. Take care-

-Thank you for the information about stomach herxing with abx.

Are you experiencing some long term resolution of symptoms after abx

use? And do you also use sea salt and c? Thank you-

-- My daughter's primary symptoms were stomach, and these have

disappeared. It used to be every day, especially at night. She has not had

stomach issues since last year, except recently when she had a flare of Babesia

and had the nausea (a dift stomach issue than what she had before) but it went

away with the Babesia flare.

And no, we don't do the Salt/c protocol -- combination antibiotics,

homeopathic, herbal and supplements. We expect in 2009 to be off of

antibiotics

given our progress. We're doing a trial now, but coinfections have reared

their

heads, so we know we still have work to do.

Good luck! -
