Guest guest
I don't know what's " advised " , but I've had three or four canals since being infected (and I think one before I knew) and all was just fine. Interesting to see what others say. Best of luck! in Oregon > > Hi > > I know root canals are advised against for those with lyme but because a " main " tooth is involved I might do the root canal instead of the extraction. > > Anyone know if antibiotics are advised for Lyme patients before or after or during the root canal? My dentist and endodontist think Lyme is rare so I can't even ask them. (I don't really understand all this but I do know I read heart patients should take an antibiotic before dental treatment so I was wondering if this is held true for Lyme patients too.) > > Mindy > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Mindy, I don't see any responses to your post, so thought I'd just tell you my experience. I recently had to have a tooth extracted, and it was infected. The dentist advised me to take three 500 mg of amoxycillin (which I happened to have on hand for Lyme treatment) several days in advance of the extraction. Amazingly, when I went to have the extraction done, the dentist was aware of Lyme disease! I have chronic Lyme and was infected in 1987. Afterwards, he told me to stay on that dosage of abx for another 4 days. BTW, I had a terrible reaction to the Lidacaine (novacaine). LOL. I can't seem to spell either of those words. Anyway, it messed up my stomach for quite a while. But okay now. I did have a root canal a couple of years ago and that tooth still bothers me to this day. I certainly understand your decision regarding having one for a main (I assume, front?) tooth. Just take some abx and be prepared. Hope this helps, Hannah Jen On Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 9:00 AM, Mindy Hellman <mindysrq@...> wrote: > Hi > > I know root canals are advised against for those with lyme but because a > " main " tooth is involved I might do the root canal instead of the > extraction. > > Anyone know if antibiotics are advised for Lyme patients before or after or > during the root canal?
