Hey everyone,

I know you've heard about this book already, but I I want to take a moment

to personally endorse this book. I believe this is one of the top three

books about Lyme disease available today. It is full

of patients telling their stories concerning their battle with Lyme disease.

It never ceases to amaze me how I can see so much of my story in the stories

of others! Though we each have a unique experience with Lyme disease, so

many similar things happen to each of us. This is a great book to share

with family and friends. When I was first diagnosed, it was very difficult

for those around me to understand how I could be so sick. Many (even the

supportive friends!) thought maybe my symptoms were " psycho-somatic " . When

I had those folks read a book or two about Lyme they often said, " Oh my

goodness! This sounds just like you! " With that they quickly came to

understand that these symptoms were in fact real, not induced by any

psychological problem, and that I wasn't the only one around with these same

strange symptoms. Confronting Lyme Disease is not one story that shows how

disastrous this disease can be but fourteen stories!

These fourteen stories can not only help friends and family understand what

you're going through, they can also help you, the patient, understand and

offer all affected by this disease hope for the future. This is definitely

going to be a book I keep an extra copy of around so I can share with

others.

Please note: I authored a small section in this book. I did this because I

believe this book has so much to offer the Lyme disease community. I have no

financial gain in this project and have purchased my books like the rest of

the Lyme disease community. I plan on giving copies of this book to my

family and friends to help them continue to understand what I have gone

through and what I continue to deal with.

I HIGHLY recommend this book for everyone and anyone who's life has been

touched by Lyme disease.

=)

Postscript:

This book offers each of us a GREAT opportunity to teach others about Lyme

disease and co-infections. Be sure to ask your local libraries to purchase

the book for their readers. Most libraries have an online form to fill out

for such requests. If not, a quick visit and chat with a librarian will get

you the information you need to request that they buy the book. (They often

will, they just need to be asked!)

Another great resource is public and private schools. It can be harder to

convince them to buy books, but I'm sure they would take a book as a

donation. If we can get more young people to read about and learn about

this disease the less time it will take for individuals to get the help they

need.

When you get the chance, write a review or at least rate the reviews at

Amazon ( http://tinyurl.com/mfqtg and http://tinyurl.com/h5wkz ). These

ratings help sell the book, and again, if we can get more people to read

this book I think we will all receive some benefit.

Thank you!

New Book Intimately Portrays the Struggles of Lyme Disease Patients

Lyme disease is among the most rapidly growing epidemics in the nation with

as many as a quarter million new cases each year. Delayed and inadequate

treatment can lead to chronic suffering and disability. In advanced illness,

a patient stands about a one in three chance of cure using standard

treatment regimens. Fourteen patients reveal how their lives were changed by

debilitating illness and by unanticipated medical obstacles in this newly

released book. These individuals, from all walks of life in the U.S. and

Canada, find themselves caught in the middle of a medical controversy

fighting to regain the lives they once took for granted.

(PRWEB) April 11, 2006 -- Lyme disease is among the most rapidly growing

epidemics in the nation with as many as a quarter million new cases each

year. Delayed and inadequate treatment can lead to chronic suffering and

disability. In advanced illness, a patient stands about a one in three

chance of cure using standard treatment regimens.

In " Confronting Lyme Disease: What Patient Stories Teach Us " , the struggles

of fourteen patients reveal how their lives were changed by debilitating

illness and by unanticipated medical obstacles. These individuals, from all

walks of life, find themselves caught in the middle of a medical controversy

fighting to regain the lives they once took for granted.

Authors Trish Yerges and Rita Stanley, Ph.D., tell each story with

compassion and from an insider's viewpoint. The interplay of personal

tragedy with medical obstacles reflects how the human spirit rises to try

and overcome not only illness, but the challenges of restrictive modern

medicine.

Lesley Ann Fein, M.D., MPH, Medical Director of the Lyme Disease Society,

had this to say, " This book represents the patients who are seen on a daily

basis by physicians, like myself, who treat Lyme disease. I have seen Lyme

disease transform brilliant minds into confusion, dementia, and profound

depression. I have seen athletes develop crippling pain, weakness, and

confinement to wheelchairs. I want to thank the authors for this moving and

brilliantly written book. "

Jim , President of the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation said,

" Confronting Lyme Disease intimately portrays the effects of the spread of

Lyme disease in North America. American and Canadian lives are ruined while

the medical authorities exercise health cost management and control. "

Dolly Curtis, cable TV producer and host of Dolly Curtis Interviews, said,

" I recognized the similar experiences that most Lyme patients endure-the

lack of understanding of such a virulent disease.the suffering both physical

and emotional-it is all there in these real stories about real people and

pets coping with the pain of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. "

About the authors:

" Trish " Yerges is a prolific author with over 150 published articles

on the topics of medicine, history, and art. She has extensive interviewing

skills and specializes in writing narratives and biographies. Her work has

appeared in newspapers and books. She has advised student writers and has

received awards and recognition for her writing accomplishments. Lyme

disease personally touched her life when her daughter became ill in 1999.

She currently lives in northeastern Oregon with her husband and two

children.

Rita Stanley, Ph.D., (Penn State and Ohio State alumna and Phi Kappa Phi

scholar) has done original research in the areas of physiology and

biochemistry and has published in leading scientific journals such as The

Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Neurochemistry, and Biology of

Reproduction. She was a Lyme disease support group leader for a decade at

Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon, and served on the advisory and

directors' boards at the Lyme Alliance, Inc. A former Lyme patient, she

lives with her husband in Portland, Oregon.
