Guest guest
I had emailed Dr. Jill yesterday, and she emailed me back this morning! It really made me smile, and I wanted to share with you all! Dear Amy: Thank you for your interest in our Crohn's research. Since naltrexone is generic and inexpensive it is hard to get pharmaceutical companies involved. But I am working on getting it FDA approved so it is readily available to people ...like yourself. We published our pilot trial (attached) in the American J Gastroenterology. Our placebo controlled trial with colonoscopies showing healing was just accepted for publicaiton in another prominent GI journal. As a doctor and scientist I believe studies need to be done properly and ethically. The only way to convince gastroenterologists of the efficacy of this compound is by doing good science and publishing in reputable journals.http://painsandiego.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/ldn-improves-active-crohns-disease_jill-smith-md_-2007-am-j-gastroenterology.pdfI hope you respond to the naltrexone. Blessing to you and I again thank you for your interest in our research.SincerelyJill P. , MDProfessor of MedicinePenn State UniversityCollege of MedicineH-045; 500 University DriveHershey, PA 17033717-531-3694 akreynolds@... 1/14/2011 12:21 PM >>> Hi, Dr. . I have crohn's disease, and I have been on all drug treatment options through care at my local GI's office in Indianapolis. He sent me to the Cleveland Clinic mid November for a 2nd opinion and treatment options where I met with a GI (Dr. Achkar) and a surgeon (Dr. Kiran) who after an upper/lower scope and review of my records decided my best option would be the removal of my large colon, rectum, and anus. I did not find this information out until Monday, January 3rd, as Dr. Kiran had been out on vacation from Thanksgiving until the first of the new year. Over the past few weeks I have been researching LDN drug treatment for IBD, and I forwarded several articles/abstracts/info on LDN and the clinical trials you have been conducting to Dr. Kiran/Cleveland Clinic early this week. He in turn replied back to me with a copy to my local GI in Indy that he was ok with me trying LDN drug treatment, my local GI reviewed all the links I sent to him...he phoned me yesterday to say YES he would try me on LDN before having such a major surgery. I go on this coming Monday to see him. I am VERY excited about this drug. I even called a phone number on one of your clinical trial pages yesterday to see if I could participate (this was before my local GI called me), but the nurse I spoke with said the study had been closed for some time now. She was very, very kind to me. Out of all the biological drugs I have been on, I do the best on Humira. I have been back on Humira now since October 27th. It has never put me in remission, but I would say it has made my quality of life maybe 25 - 30% better. My question to you is can you take Humira in combination with LDN? I know from what I've read on LDN that many doctors do not even know what it is. In fact, when I was in Cleveland the week of November 15 for my initial consult with Dr. Achkar, I asked him about LDN...and he had NOT a clue to what I was talking about. I think that is very sad from all of the good things I have read about this drug and IBD. Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I know how busy you must be, and I appreciate all you are doing to help all of us suffering in the world with this disease. I am an Administrator on a support group called Let's Talk Crohn's and Other GI Issues, and I've posted many articles on your work!!! Kind regards, Amy Reynolds
