Guest guest
Dear All, My 12 year old son has been suffering from tingling fingers for the last 3-4 years. I suspect that he has celiac disease or at least a gluten allergy because (i) I have Hashimoto's disease, my anti-bodies have gone down since going GF and I have multiple food sensitivities. I suspect that my gut issues are the source of my thyroid/adrenal issues. (ii) I have used a Food Intolerance Home Testing kit that I bought over the Internet and it has shown up that he has multiple food sensitivities which makes me think that he has a damaged gut (iii) Tingling extremities is a symptom of celiac disease. I also have burning feet. I live in France and I would like to find a doctor that is good at diagnosing celiac disease. I have tried to get myself diagnosed by my local doctor but it was really an uphill struggle to get him to admit that it was possible for someone over the age of 10 to have celiac disease and I have read that the average period for diagnosing CD is about 10 years. I also had great fun with the laboratory that did my tests, who insisted that they knew best when it came to deciding which tests to give me! In the end I gave up and just went GF. (And behold, there was a lowering of my Hashi antibodies!) I do not want to wait 10 years to get better (I am 48). For my son, however, I am in a hurry. So if anybody could give me the name of a good doctor specialised in treating and/or diagnosing CD in continental Europe or the U.K. I would be very grateful. I would like to get a diagnosis one way or the other and if it is positive, get him on LDN before he leaves home. I apologise if this is considered off topic for this group. If that's the case please contact me directly. May be there is a better group to address this problem to. MacGilchrist
Guest guest
My understanding is you cannot dx celiac unless the person is actively consuming gluten. Also, the point at which the tests show positive for celiac is when there has already been considerable damage to the intestinal lining. So, the person can be reactive and symptomatic but not test positive if there hasn't been enough intestinal damage yet. At least that was what I had read. So ... my 2 cents - if going off gluten helped you keep it up. Shift your son to a gluten free diet and see if his symptoms improve. If they do you have your answer. It will save you a lot of time and headache. Just my 2 cents.
