Guest guest
It is said that fiery Sirius upon rising bickers into red and emerald blue; the time after midnight most of us will ring in the New Year 2010 while early evening looking to the southern horizon to catch a glimpse of bright star Sirius (below the Moon) and Orion's Belt to the upper right pointing for us the way. To many this constitutes a third of the winter triangle or also the famed " Christmas Star " which can be seen twinkling with beautiful hues on a clear evening with Binoculars or even the naked eye in some places. Sirius rises around 7 PM CST with the " Blue Moon " on New year's eve and does not portend the moon to actually be Blue in color but rather refers to January 1999 where there were two full moons and none in February. Blue Moons will again occur in August 2012 and Jan 2018 thus making us focus again on everything water (H2O). For me the time from New Years 2010 to Feb 11 may portend some rather bluish, colder weather according to our ancestors knowledge. Sirius the " Dog Star " has been associated with water and the inundation of the Nile according to the ancient Egyptians which gave rise to crops. I feel the heavens are reminding us there will be a renewed focus on water as a natural resource in 2010 including a focus on our nations water treatment, irrigation and usage as a natural resource. The Farmer's Almanac defines a " Blue Moon " as an extra full moon that occurs in a season. EarthSky.org has a very nice article on the topic of the Blue Moon as well as some problems we may soon be facing in the near future and the stars certainly seem to agree.
