Guest guest
I know there are a number of us who are taking both of the above and came across the below and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this?Possible Interactions:If you are currently being treated with any of the following medications, you should not use phenylalanine without first talking to your health care provider.Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors -- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are an older class of antidepressants drugs that are rarely used now. They include phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), and tranylcypromine sulfate (Parnate). Taking phenylalanine while taking MAOIs may cause a severe increase in blood pressure (hypertensive crisis). This severe increase in blood pressure can lead to a heart attack or stroke. People taking MAOIs should avoid foods and supplements containing phenylalanine.Baclofen -- Phenylalanine may reduce absorption of baclofen (Lioresal), a medication used to relieve muscle spasms. Avoid taking Baclofen with a meal, especially one that is high in protein, or with phenylalanine supplements.http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/phenylalanine-000318.htm Jayne Crocker www.LDNNow.comImportant! Guest guest
Thanks for that Jayne. Most Interesting. I have baclofen in a pump which delivers an automatic complex continuous dose of 21.6 mcg in 24 hours. I get the highest dose from 8pm until 8am as nightime is always when the spasticity and pain were the worst. Like most Westerners I eat my most protein rich meal at 7pm and I am sure it would not be digested by 8pm. I do not think the LDN has counter acted the effect at all as this very small dose still gives me 100% relief from intense pain from spasms and surface skin pain and a lot of relief from spasticity as well. I have not noticed any difference on days when I am protein free. But I will definitely steer clear of phenylalanine supplements just to be safe.
