Hello, yes Edema goes hand and foot with Lyme disease.

You sound as if you are terrible infected with the Lyme bacteria and need to

stay on Doxy desperately for at least two months to kill off the bacteria in

the bloodstream. Since you have only had Lyme since several months ago you

might be aqble to prevent yourself from being stricken with chronic Lyme.

Two months is not nearly enough time to eliminate the Lyme bacteria that will

have hidden itself in your cell membrains and goes into a cyst stage where

antiboitics cannot kill it. It just keeps coming out and continuely reinfects

one.

I have had Lyme since 94 and have had all kind of misadventures. It can

cause severe joint difficulties as well as edema. I have never talked with

anyone in the Lyme community that seems to know exactly what causes the edema

or

how best to eliminate it. Killing off the bacteria can probably cause your

problem of Edema to end, but it is very hard to kill all of the bacteria or

even enough to be better. I believe the bacteria closes off the blood vessels

and clogs them to such an extent that it causes edema.

All my best wishes and prayers for your complete recovery.

Sidney

I have the swelling in hands and feet/ankles a little, not too bad, but

noticeable, it comes and goes for me and is not a major complaint but it

does act up right on the days when my joints are also aching. My joints

don't ache constantly.

Sorry you are not finding doctors that believe. I hope you are reading some

of the books and also that you understand the difference between the ELISA

and the Western Blot.

I tested neg on my test. I have lots of symptoms that my kids also

had, and they tested positive, we were all sick in the same week, started at

the same time.now my symptoms are worse. I am convinced I have it but just

am testing negative.

EDEMA can also be signs of other problems such as kidney, liver and heart

and doesn't have to be lyme related. If I were you since you can't see an

LLMD until Oct I would get this swelling checked out to make SURE it's

coming from the lyme and not something else..

Good morning!

I am newish member, mostly lurking since June. I could have gotten

Lyme either at our place up north (house is on 30 acres of woods) or

at our archery club which is on 100 acres of woods. Either way, I see

many ticks and find them crawling all over me, my hubbie and Hogan,

our black Lab. While I remember at least three tick bites in the last

year, I don't remember the one I think gifted me with Lyme Disease.

My first symptoms (arm pain and cramping) were over Memorial Day

weekend. Then the more serious symptoms hit me hard the following

week. Migratory joint and muscle pain, to the point it was nearly

impossible to climb the stairs to go to bed. I actually told my

husband that I might need to either sleep in the downstairs bedroom or

he would have to help me up the stairs. The knee and ankle pain were

such that I could not climb the stairs without support from my arms,

but my wrists and hands were so inflammed I could not use them for

that purpose.

I have been to a walkin clinic, my family doctor, a rheumatologist,

and a family doctor who practices in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

All of them have drawn blood samples and done the Lyme Liter (is that

the same as an ?) and all have resulted in a negative result. I

figure the first one was negative because it was too early to test

positive, but the later tests were negative because I was on

antibiotics.

I am self treating since the prescription for Doxycycline ran out two

weeks ago. Using teasel root as an herbal antibiotic, as per

Fox protocol. I have been at maximum dosage for about a week.

Yesterday, my symptoms became more uncomfortable than before with

migratory pain in my hands, wrist, knees and ankles. And neck.

What I am more concerned with is the edema in my ankles and was

wondering if there is any mention anywhere about that. I have been

reading a lot and thought I read somewhere about edema in the ankles

with Lyme Disease. Does anyone know what it is from, why it occurs?

I have to wait until October to see a LLMD to find out if no one here

knows.

Hi Cheryll,

I have the exact same problem! When I am swollen I can't even think of stairs!

It's horrible isn't it?

I just got a picc line put in...YES, insurance FINALLY paid for me to do this! I

have had Lyme, Erlichia, Bartonella etc for three years...possibly was a

reinfection.

Symptoms hit me within three weeks of the bite but I didn't know what it was.

I take 25 mgs. of HCTZ daily. I don't know if it helps with the edema, but it

sure can't hurt at this point. I drink extra water when I am swollen, then lay

on my left side. I think that was what I was told to do when I was

pregnant...see if that helps? Good luck to you!

Jacqui,

I also take HCTZ (hydrochlorothyazide -sp? - a diuretic) for full body edema

in a combination pill with blood pressure medication (for high BP). The

combo helps keep my BP nice and low, but didn't release a drop of water.

The doctor who prescribed it said I was carrying at least 20 lbs. of water

weight. My allergy/Lyme doctor said it's probably from food allergies. And

we also know that it's part of the array of Lyme symptoms for me.

+++Yes , that is the correct amount of electrolyte drink. I think you

should get your edema double-checked by the doctor, just to be safe. You don't

" have to " follow any recommendations however. Let me know.

Bee, thanks, but I think it would completely freak me out to go to the doctor.

They'd do tests and stuff and I would be a nervous wreck thinking my kidneys or

heart had problems etc, not to mention how expensive it would all be with the

deductible I've got on my insurance and now I'd possibly get yet another

diagnosis that would be an additional Pre-existing condition, making my

insurance even more expensive.

But, I have been drinking about 10 cups of water per day (with salt) and I

realize that is possibly too much. I'll try to gradually reduce it to see if

there is any change. Does that sound like a plan to you?
