ask can LDN be taken along with copaxone? and Id like to know if anyone is

taking LDN along with Copaxone for multiple Sclerosis and have they seen any

Dear Munish.

There is no problem with taking Copaxone with LDN. When I was diagnosed, my

doctor gave me the research on each of the CRAB drugs and let me make the

decision on which to take. The Copaxone worked differently from the Beta Seron,

Avonex and Rebif, all of which were designed to lower the immune system.

Copaxone worked by blocking the destructive cells from further damaging the

myelin sheathing, not specifically on the immune system. Their research showed

that it SLOWED progression of MS in 32% of the people taking it. At $2600 per

month, and a daily injection in the stomach, that is a big price to pay for such

small return. Still, I took that shot every day for 9 years while continuing to

deteriorate.

The Tysabri, which was not out at the time, has a third mechanism. It closes off

the blood/brain barrier, which is why people die of a brain infection. If they

have a latent infection that is being kept under control by the immune system,

when you cut that immune system off from the brain, the infection can get out of

hand and then you die. Scary. The other problem is that you cut off any

potential healing from the brain. In the short term, it might slow down any

attacking being done, but in the long term, it is a total disaster, stopping any

improvement. It used to be believed that there could be no improvement, but now

we know that the sheathing can be regenerated and many of us are living proof

that many symptoms of MS can be reversed.

This is where we talk about the immune system and LDN. The old idea of " the

immune system is attacking the CNS cells, so we must destroy the immune system " ,

simply does not make sense any more. Correcting the immune system is what LDN

does, and it has a MUCH higher success rate of stopping progression, than any of

the CRAB drugs or Tysabri.

So, you can take any of the MS drugs with LDN (remember, the only thing you

cannot take is opiods), but once you understand their mechanism, you can decide

what is wise for you. Avonex, Beta Seron and Rebif seek to destroy the immune

system as their mode of fighting MS. They are not very compatible with LDN.

Copaxone affects the binding sites, which is much less destructive to the body's

defenses, and does not interfere with LDN. Tysabri is a last ditch effort to

block the immune system and is used only when total paralysis or death is the

option. I suppose you could use it with LDN, but in my view, I cannot imagine

taking it with or without LDN. It just does not make sense, unless everything

else, and I mean everything else, has been tried and failed (including LDN.)

I hope this helps, and I am please that you have found LDN.
