Guest guest
Thanks for the info Mark. They have prescribed 10ml just 2 times a day. I am going to try it and see if it works. Even though I had a fusion, because my spinal cord was damaged, my hands still tingle most days. Yes, my PT is a Dr but she is very anti medication. I also have the luck of working for the largest chiro/accu/massage therapy network in the country and have asked our Chief Medical Officer what he thought about baclofen. He said that he thought it was a good idea as well. I will try it and keep you posted. Debra Immort1@... wrote: I have been taking it for about a year. Guest guest
This is so odd as I just posted the same question, Debra. (insert theme from (Twilight Zone), lol. I'm on it and I'm asking if others are on it and if they've experienced any of the ide effects I've had, Deep, inablility to wake me, sleep and vomiting when I first took it. I've only been on it 8 days and yes I've read that it's for MS, too. I looked it up on the web. I think it might be because I'm on morphine. I think it makes the pain meds stronger or adds to the drowsiness factor. Other than that it has worked for muscle relaxing. It depends on the person and the meds. > > My Dr has given me a prescription for baclofen to help with the > tingling and numbness in my hands. He said it has been used to ease the > spinal cord. Guest guest
One thing I don't understand is why is your pt giving you advice on meds? I don't think they are trained or even in the position to be giving advice on meds. I find it useful even though I've experienced vomiting once and being knocked out once. It seems to be agreeing with me so far. I wont stop taking it unless my doctor advises not to. > > My Dr has given me a prescription for baclofen to help with the > tingling and numbness in my hands. Guest guest
I am kind of knowledgable about Baclofen. I used to be a CNA for this boy with CP. He was on oral baclofen for over a year. It was given out as 5mg every 2 hours. He got it at 8 10 12 2 4 6 8, then it started back at 8 am in the morning. This dosage was not helping him. If we went up with the dosage the withdrawls got worse. If we skipped a dose, he would withdrawl with sweats, crankiness and could not lay still.  His parents decided that the baclofen pump was better for him. He could get a continous dosage and could avoid the withdrawls.  He got the baclofen due to the muscle tightness that comes along with CP. It was supposed to help him relax and able to be in less pain from the tightness.  I did not see much difference. The horse therapy was more efficient in helping him relax that the baclofen. I believe that maybe you are taking the baclofen with those other meds and that is why you are going into the " coma like sleep " .  So ever said that baclofen was just used for people with MS, was totally mistaken. Baclofen is used for all different kinds of conditions. It is used for people with MS, but others as well.  Dawn E. I was prescribed Baclofen by my pain management doctor and it really hits me.. I have passed out in a deep sleep not to be awaken or have thrown up. I am on morphine 30 mg. e/r, neurontin 300 mg. 3 times a day and amitriptyline 25 mg. Even though I pray for sleep I don't feel well by doing it in a coma. Kind of scares me. I looked up the info on Baclofen and it didn't say anything about the side effects I experienced. It might be the morphine and neurontin interacting with the Baclofen causing extreme drowsiness. Not sure, though.
Guest guest
I take baclofen. I used to have some terrible muscle tremors in the morning, especially in my hands to the point where sometimes I could not even sign my own name. Embarrassing as h*** which only made it worse. I was prescribed few more meds too at the time. I do not know which one is working for sure, but I take baclofen and low dose morphine in the am, so something is helping. I know when the last time I was in the hospital the " morphine pump " did diddlysquat for me. I still have tingling and my hands/feet get numb. But at least I can write!!! in NH Re: Baclofen One thing I don't understand is why is your pt giving you advice on meds? Guest guest
You know, I have the same problem with also jerking of my hands. I drop a lot of things, too. The tingling and numbness is most present in the morning when I wake up or wakes me up due to pain and swelling. I've had to have rings cut off in the past and woke up screaming wth excruciating pain in my right hand. I eventually had to have surgery in my neck from pain so severe in my neck, ahoulder and arm. I couldn't sit, stand or lay. Nothing would help it not even pain meds. It felt like I had a big butcher knife stuck in my neck. Surgery was done for spinal stenosis, DDD and arthritus at C5 and C6. My hip bone was harvested for my neck. Now, I'm experiencing the pain on the left and doing all I can to relieve it w/o surgery. > > > > My Dr has given me a prescription for baclofen to help with the > > tingling and numbness in my hands. Guest guest
Thanks, Dawn. I find that it has helped my muscle spasms and tightness. My doctors nurse practioneer felt my muscles in my neck and shoulders and relized that the Tizanidine I was taking wasn't working like I told her. I looked up Baclofen on RxList.com and it a said it was used for MS, CP and other things such as Spinal Cord Injuries, RLS, Dystonia. I found this site to be helpful in identifying the side effects of the pills I take along with the info sheet get from the pharmacy. They also have an awesome feature where there is user reviews on side effects that is linked from WebMD.com http://www.webmd.com/. Just copy and paste in browser. I've also had some weird/scary dreams with them. Enough to have me wake up swinging my left arm because I was dreaming I had a very big, black, hairy spider on my arm. The size of a cat. Yeesh! I hadn't had the dreams with the neurontin, morphine, and Elavil but I have just started the Elavil along with the Baclofen. I have serious insomnia so she gave me Elavil. I have had it before and didn't sleep well on it but it's worth a try. I read that Baclofen and Tricyclic antidepressants can cause muscle weakness. Not a hindering effect for me. It is helping. I am surprised at the quick withdrawl rate with it. I had a seizure once and am careful with this med as I also read that withdrawing from it abruptly can cause seizures.
