Guest guest
You may not have been taking enough of them. I am now up to 8 per day, hoping to get better results with my 24 hour urine test. Calcium and citrates are way too low, Oxalates way too high. Not enough of the calcium and citrates to bond with the oxalates and carry them away. Just increasing my fluids has kept me from forming any new stones in 2 years, in spite of the " failed " urine tests.Marilyn Morin Colchester, Vermont @...: staceyr@...: Thu, 10 Apr 2008 16:33:28 -0400Subject: Re: kidney stones Just to let you all know, I was taking calcium citrate when I got kidney stones. Guest guest
I recently had kidney stones. Calcium deposits run in my family so I can't say they were related to the MGB. Thinking back, there really was nothing I did that caused them. I take calcium citrate as directly religiously and I drink lots. Things like this just happen - MGB or not. I still take calcium citrate as directed but I now drink lemonade as my beverage of choice. It's supposed to help prevent kidney stones. Elinor R. Guest guest
I have had kidney stones. Actually, I was hospitalized for that reason on my 1 yr mgb b-day! The urologist told me that, yes, the chances were increased after such surgery. Probably due in part to high protein, sodium diet & increased calcium supplementation. While your body needs calcium to help prevent stones, he said that calcium in the supplement form predisposed us to getting stones.

My episode came on without warning, while I was reading MGB posts about kidney stone attacks, no less. From the onset of the attack to getting back home from the ER took 5 hrs and boatloads of morphine. It was THE most excruciatingly painful experience in my life, thus far. What kind of treatment did you get? I ended up in a clinic Saturday night where they gave me a shot for pain, a prescription for Cipro and one for 50 mg Dimerol for pain. This was by far the worst pain I have ever had. I have passed 2 stones since then. Is there anything I can drink/eat to help flush the kidneys? Anyone have any words of advice? I have not taken but one of the pain pills beccause they make me feel so stupid. I have taken quite a bit of Extra strength Tylenol, even though we are not supposed to. Any ideas on that? Guest guest
I have had kidney stone issues, and they are caused, in our case, by a lack of calcium and citrate, causing too much oxelate (sp?) which would notmally get absorbed by the calcium and pooped out. Thats the short version of the lecture I got from my urologist. Since I learned that, I have begun taking Citracal at least twice a day, eat several Tums a day, make sure I add calcium to my diet by eating cheese, milk and extra yogurt. I sip, sip, sip water ALL DAY, with lemon juice added to it. By increasing my water and calcium and citrates, I have not had a new stone form in 2 years. I'm very happy about that.Marilyn Morin Colchester, Vermont @...: dnscuster@...: Tue, 2 Sep 2008 19:06:09 -0400Subject: kidney stones Hi everyone,I've read posts about others who have had kidney stones. Guest guest
Hi , Pat from RI here. I've had a history of stones, but since I've had my MGB it's been much worse. My dr. and my specialist say that having a gastirc by-pass makes us prone to develop them. First you have to have them analyzed (sp?), because there are different kinds. My stones are uric acid on the inside but have calcium on the outside. My specialist told me to drink a lot of lemonade to help with the uric acid, and he put me on Alapurinal. I stopped taking it because they just keep coming back, so I figured it wasn't helping anyway. I've had 5 lipros, and I'm supposed to have surgery after the holidays to haveia very large stone removed. It's not very painful now, because the larger they are, the less chance they have of moving, which causes the pain. I can sympathize with you , IT IS VERY PAINFUL........Let's hope you passed all your stones and this is the end or it. If not I suggest you see a specialist who can help you. Take care and be well. Guest guest
Well hello fellow MGB's, I'm there with you on kidney stones. The month of July I had horrible pain dead center of my lower abdomen(not back or side). Finally had to go to ER with the pain. After 7 1/2 hours laying on ER floor they found out what was causing the pain. A kidney stone the size of the end of your thumb.Yep that big. Kidney Dr. said it had been in the bend where the tube meets the kidney for a least a year or 2. I had had no problems up till that day. I had to have it laser blasted via surgery the next week. When they flushed the remanents, two pieces when back into my kidney. I had to have shunt for 2 weeks. Those 2 pieces didn't come out. Went this past Wednesday to have lipitrispy to get those busted. Well I had been praying and everyone I knew had been praying for those two stones to be gone. Well gone they were. Doctor said I had to have had pain passing them. Nope none. I've got a very high tolerance to pain. Guess he believes me now. God took the pain and stones away.I did tell Dr. Next time I tell you I'm in pain you know how bad pain must be. Now I called Dr. P while I was on the floor in ER. He told me exactly what I had.Ask me if I was taking the Citracal with citrate in it? Nope, well we are suppose to take 3 a day(1200mg). This causes the oslates that makes kidney stones not to bind together. Thus no kidney stones. He said the oslates come from good food. And since we have absorbing problems we would get kidney stones with out the citrate. So are you doing this? I wasn't but am now. Kidney Dr. also said the same thing. Just thought I would pass this along. I think some if not all of us don't know for sure what we should be taking each day since MGB. Maybe we need monthly reminders via this message board. What Vits., and supplements we need daily. And what kind of blood work to do each year. We all tend to get slack from time to time. That is human nature. Guest guest
Frequency Specific Microcurrent works. It brings the pain down at the end of a treatment (even when acute) and when the pain goes down the stones seem to pass easier. We have a doctor here who treated her self in the throws of kidney stone episode. She didn't want to wait in the ER so she did the current, as well as we have used it on several patients since. Additionally try ice over the area becuase it will take the muscle spasm down, ok ok I am going for the obvious answer on that one, but we do the current here and would be happy to talk to him. Guest guest
Actually this wil help and (IMHO) it is one of the worst things y ou can do.....the phosphorus in the carbonation will leach calcium - taking the edge off the stones as says - but it also leaches calcium from everywhere else. Per Dr. ing: vit c at 3000 mg/day will soften the stones and at 5000 mg/day will erode stones ....without endangering any other ratios. Just have him call the office number below and we can see what we can do. :)ThanksRespectfully, Dr. Franchesca HarperFunctional Pain Solutions6956 SW Hampton StTigard, OR 97223p. 503-443-6100f. 503-443-1280 chirodoc1comcast (DOT) net; From: drandrewchahotmailDate: Thu, 18 Sep 2008 03:14:03 +0000Subject: RE: kidney stones drink coca cola classic for a few days.
