Guest guest
I have used Ambien on my OCD daughter twice. She normally takes Clonidine to help her fall asleep at night but twice last summer I gave her the Ambien when we were camping and she was unable to fall asleep. The first time she took it, it made her pretty goofy. She talked in her sleep and said some very funny things. When she woke up, she told me that she remembered trying to tell me something but couldn't because she was so dopey. The second time, she was about an hour into a fit (change in schedule--her dad and sister were gone, she was very tired) and I gave it to her. She was asleep within a half an hour and slept peacefully all night. Kelley in NV

Guest guest
No experience with children and Ambien, but I used to take it, myself. It was very effective in helping me sleep. The issues I had with it were that if I took it and then stayed up (got up to do something I forgot about or whatever), I could act very strangely; and have no memory of that time. Also it can be addictive. It was very helpful for me, though, and it did not make me tired the next day. lisa > > Does anyone have any experience with Ambien? Guest guest
We used Ambien for about a month when 's " zombies " that he knew were in his room kept him awake every night. He started to like the feeling that it gave him too much, though, so we stopped using it. He had gotten into a better sleep pattern, though, so could sleep even without it. Guest guest
We tried Ambien with Karac. It made him hyper. He is now on .25 mg of Zanax at night and it is a Godsend. He slept until 8:00 this morning. Zanax is an antianxiety medication just like Ambien. I don't know why one would make him hyper and the other helps him sleep. These kids are so different. I understand that Ambien is the only drug for sleep approved for airline pilots. I hope you have good luck. Pat K

I guess it effects different folks different ways..I just love the relaxed feeling it gives me..since the revision surgery, I just can't get comfortable enough in a soft chair etc. When I take this drug it gives me the ability to feel comfortable for a short time even if I am not. This maynot make any sense but any of the other drugs I take, actually I am only taking 2 vicodone a day, just does not give me that feeling...anyone else understand this or not??,PA - In , " Kathleen Wigham " <kulina@...> wrote: > > i had found with past usage of ambien that if i decided to stay awake and > get up out of bed and move around instead of sleep that indeed i could do > anything i wanted with little or no pain. ambien basically shut off the > receptors for a couple of hours. its an almost 'i dont care' attitude of the > brain override. Guest guest
What Kulina said about Ambien is so very true! Many, many people have reported that, if they do not stay in bed after taking it, they become very hyperactive and do things they would not ordinarily do! Some have eaten out of the refrigerator, some have "cleaned out the pantry" as Kulina mentioned, and the list of happenings goes on and on! I was delighted when Ambien allowed me to get a good night's sleep. However, when it didn't work, I did do things I never would have done had I been in control. My counselor tells me that he hears these stories all the time! Needless to say, I cannot take Ambien any more, and I suffer a lot because of it. I have many sleepless nights. Anyway, I have to say again: If you take Ambien, be sure that you are IN BED and ready to go to sleep. Do NOT take it and "hang around"! Just my two cents' worth! I am not a doctor -- just a scoliosis pain sufferer who cannot take Ambien! Sincerely, Carole M.

Guest guest
Kathy, I don't use Ambien, but just before surgery last year I started having similar issues with Celebrex and insurance requring extra hoops to be jumppted thorugh and doling the drugs out like I was on some expensive alternative treatment. The Insurance companies, with the help of this administration, is continuing to line their pockets at the expense of people like us. It is ridiculous and it has to stop. Hopefully sooner rather than later. GGGRRRRRRRR. Cam
Guest guest
HI Kathy, This insurance thing is just too much, isn't it? I got the 90 day Ambien presecrition filled about a month ago but it wasn't easy. The mail order pharmacy I use insisted upon talking to the doctor before they would let the presctiption go through. I don't know what will happen next time. Bonnie [ ] Ambien Has anyone had trouble getting their prescription filled lately? According to our pharmacist, insurance will now pay for only 60 pills every 90 days. (the insurance web site makes no mention at all of this) The pharmacist said most doctors are taking their patients off of Ambien so they won't be sued since a report came out about people driving "drunk" and "high" on Ambien and not knowing it! I already pay $50 a month co-pay. Now I will have to pay $106 for each third month (assuming they will still let me re-fill it). This drug has been on the market more than 10 years! It doesn't seem to matter that my doctor prescribed it or that I take a dose well within the prescribing guidelines. And my insurance doesn't pay a dime towards my blood pressure med. My co-pay exceeds the cost of the drug!Kathy

Hubby is leaving for Aberdeen tomorrow and I'm staying here again. He's working on some things I can't help with and Savannah and I would be in the way, since we stay in the RV while there. So, I'll pick up my prescription tomorrow after my dr. visit with my Family dr. and I will be alone with Savannah when I take my first dose. I was told not to take it until just before I go to bed because it WILL put me to sleep. And, I've been reading up on it. One of the sides is that it might make insomnia worse. Also, it says that you have to make sure you have a full eight hours to sleep, or don't take it. Also, I need to make sure the dog is done outside. BIG DEAL! Hopefully I won't need to take it all the time, as it is habit forming. Am I rambeling, again? Sry. Hugs, VG

Guest guest
Val, I'm sorry you had the reaction to Ambien, but glad you figured out what it was. All our problems should be so easily solved! Take care. Sharon [ ] Ambien Hi all,Well, two years later after being on Ambien on and off, depending on pain level and amnesia. I have found, without a shadow of a doubt, that I am allergic to it. I took .5 two nights in a row and all of a sudden my peripheral neuropathy, muscle pain (myalsia) and arthritis symptoms soared through the roof. I could not believe it. First, I just thought it was the old nerve thing kicking up once again after I was doing so good but then I realised that not only were the nerves all tingly and active but the joints and muscles hurt...like the flu almost. I stopped the pills immediately and 3 days later the symptoms are gone. I am only letting you know because though it is rare to react like that to Ambien, it happens and maybe somebody else is experiencing the same results. Thanks,

Guest guest
, That is amazing. I made a quick look to see if it was a listed side effect and I didn't see it. Is it something you think you should report to the FDA? It is terrible to think that this might have been the source of a lot of your earlier troubles... Guest guest
Hi Cam, The muscle and joint pain are somewhat rare side effects but the neuropathy data came from a clinical trial, see site below, under central nervous system. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/zolpid_ad.htm I know, I thought maybe that might be true, that it has been an issue all along. I started Ambien, shortly after I got home, so it fits. With everything else that was going on and all the other pain killers and stuff, I never put two and two together. Imagine, if I suffered extra nueropathy pain all that time for nothing? Obviously, I have peripheral neuropathy other when I have taken Ambien so I know that is a seperate issue but Ambien makes it so much worse than it actually is. Thanks for responding > > , > > That is amazing. I made a quick look to see if it was a listed side > effect and I didn't see it. Is it something you think you should report > to the FDA? Guest guest
I have taken Ambien every night for 8 years. It works well for me, although sometimes better than others. Having an empty stomach makes it work faster. But I quickly learned to get off the computer or the phone after I take it since I could say the silliest things and then not remember. Also, right when it kicks in I feel so great and have this urge to eat something sweet, or to combine opposite flavors. I would find empty tuna cans and peanut butter containers in the kitchen. I am glad I stopped all that! Some people are gaining a lot of weight on Ambien and don't know it. One big warning: after you take Ambien, don't share intimate things with anyone you are with, or get into an argument. You may say things that can come to hunt you the day after :)I also have lost a lot of my memory (names, faces, events), but I am not sure if it is HIV-related cognitive dysfunction. I tried Lunesta but the drug does not work as well and it gives me a horrible tastes in my mouth for a few hours in the morning. Melatonin and tryptophan made me too groggy in the morning. For someone to travels a lot, Ambien is the best drug ever! But go to bed when you take it and don't hang around your house doing crazy stuff you do not remember the day after.Regards, Vergelpowerusa dot orgFrom: <patrick_im1ru12@...> Sent: Sat, June 5, 2010 11:22:28 AMSubject: Ambien >> > Does anyone take Ambien? I do, and I have the most bizarre nightmares from it. Can anyone recommend anything else? Lunesta doesn't work for me.>At first I thought Ambien was a godsend. No other sleeping pill had ever worked for me. Some even had the opposite effect or wiring me out like I was a speed freak. Then came Ambien, deep restful sleep, wake up wide awake - it was a miracle drug for me. At least I thought so at first. It took changing ALL my passwords to god-knows-what one night for me to start to realize how much Ambien was screwing with me. Suddenly a handful of unexplainable occurences made sense - things impossibly moved or missing, correspondence from nowhere.I took a couple of months and a little reading to realize the worst part for me. In a few (apparently) "lucky" people Ambien tickles part of the brain that shapes your actions and impulses. It changed who I was and I had no idea at the time. I did eventually apologize to one guy in Houston for my behavior but I really have no idea who else might deserve one or for what. The worst part was it cost me a very important person in my life and I don't blame him. Check out http://sleeplikethedead.com/ambien-reviews.html note "personality changes".Ambien appears to be great for most people - wow did I sleep great - but you really need to be on the look out for bizarre side effects.------------------------------------Welcome to our group! If you received this email from someone who forwarded it to you and would like to join this group, send a blank email to -subscribe and you will get an email with instructions to follow. You can chose to receive single emails or a daily digest (collection of emails). Guest guest
I have been taking Ambien for about a year and haven't had any nightmare type dreams, but my dreams have changed. Whereas I used to dream mostly in bright colors, they're now kind of yellow tinged and a little weird. Yeah, I know it's kind of odd. I had to get my Ambien from a private doctor because the VA didn't carry it. Now I am in Portland Or. and the VA does carry it but my primary doctor says it is contraindicated with Ritonavir. I was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago with a toe infection and while I was there, they gave me Ambien in both the 5 mg and the 10 mg dose (whichever I wanted) and there was no mention of it being contraindicated. I don't know what's going on, but I have tried almost all of the other sleep aids and they do nothing for me, so I'm still waiting to see what my primary is going to recommend. I have heard of some people who have strong side effects from it, such as sleep walking with no memory of it after waking, and also nightmares too, but I don't think it's necessarily just those on HIV meds.I hope you find something that works for you because I know very well how awful it is not to be able to get to sleep. All the best.....Mike
Guest guest
I have been on ldn for one year sometimes 3.0 vs 4.5mg and my main problem is sleep. I take it at bedtime and my doc has given me a script for 10 mg of ambien so I cut it in half and that is beneficial for sleep, even though I wake very early. I get 7hrs. of sleep. I would not be able to take ldn without some sleep help.
