Guest guest
I have been on LDN 1.5mg for 3 months, now 3mg for last 2 weeks. I am also on 7.5prednisone daily and 15mg methotrexate (mtx, weekly once). I have severe polymyositis. So far, I don't sense any help from the LDN. None of my auto-immune (polymyositis, raynauds, difficulty swallowing) problems have shown any tangible improvement. Should I reduce the immune suppresants, are LDN/mtx nullifying each other? Should I increase to 4.5mg LDN soon? Also, I have 50mg iodoral iodine, have not taken it yet, is it safe to do so? Any help is appreciated. /Nara
Guest guest
Nara, I take 4 drops of Lugol's iodine daily... perfectly safe and good for you! I was offered methotrexate by my rheumatologist and refused... scary stuff! And, yes, it's likely that this and LDN are canceling each other out, so I'd suggest you try one or the other by itself for at least a month. If you take that much oral prednisone daily, I hope your doctor has you tapering off it after a month or two at most... don't want to stay on that stuff for a long period ot time. Guest guest
hi Nara, ldn and metotrexate are not compatible,as you wrote metotrexate is an immunesupressant drug and works at the opposite sense of ldn. you must decide wich one of the two meds you want to get.considering what dr.lawrence writes on his medical reports it is also necessary to reduce(or better stopping completely)the steroids assumtion, you must remember that steroids suppres the immune system too. my best emiliano > > I have been on LDN 1.5mg for 3 months, now 3mg for > last 2 weeks. > > I am also on 7.5prednisone daily and 15mg methotrexate > (mtx, weekly once). > > I have severe polymyositis. Guest guest
Because LDN stimulates the immune system and many of the drugs routinely used by the NHS in the treatment of MS and autoimmune disease further suppress the immune system, LDN cannot be used in company with steroids, beta interferon, methotrexate, azathioprine or mitozantrone or any other immune suppressant drug. If there is any doubt, please submit a full list of the drugs you are presently taking so that their compatibility may be assessed. In addition, because LDN will also block the analgesic effects of any opiate drugs (includes codeine, dihydrocodeine, morphine, pethidine or diamorphine) presently being taken, the use of LDN will initially greatly increase the level of pain experienced. It is therefore advisable that any opiate-like drugs be discontinued at least two weeks before this treatment is initiated. When starting the treatment it is essential that any untoward or adverse side-effects are reported immediately so that the treatment process can be further assessed and, if necessary, modified. Guest guest
Hi Emilnari, I think you’ll find there are differences of opinion with what you can and cannot take with LDN. One has to remember that LDN is a BIOtherapy and can be combined with other meds except for opiates. I’ve taken LDN with sulfasalazine and mesalazine and steroids. All is fine to do this. This is what is written on the LDNScience.org websiteThe answer to this is not known with certainty. However there does not seem to be a reason why LDN should interact with any medications other than opiate-family or opiate-mimicking painkillers. In the clinical trials conducted to date, no problems have been seen when LDN was combined with other medications being taken by the studies’ participants.I am also a patient of Dr Bob Lawrence. Guest guest
Ness, we have it straight from a prime researchers mouth that LDN is alright to take with steroids, and let us not forget that many people indeed have to take them, cancer patients with brain swellings etc, Jayne and you are quite right, and I posted earlier that it is also Ok to take LDN with Methotrexate. How can we possibly say to people don't take this that or the other yet advocate LDN, if people want to to knock it, then let's have the science behind it..... Emiliano, you should not tell people what they cannot take with LDN unless you can either get this advice from a researcher, or are spot on with the science to justify what you say..... Celia due to this possibility there are patz that can get different way.but i can write my experience,i'm not doing steroids since 2007 and i'm taking ldn + a lot of antioxidants(ala,lac,vit.b,vit.d3,mangostano juice, niancin and i drink only green thea 2 lt a day) well i never needed it and the few time i had a relapse
Guest guest
relevant to ldn and steroids i can only say that i received a mail from dr.Bob Lawrence exactly 6 months ago,and he sent me a medical documents done by his studio where was clearly written that steroids and ldn should not be taken together due to the immunesupressant power of steroids that reduce ldn effect . furthermore he suggested to use antioxidants in abundance(the documents title was :what shall i do if i need steroids?) the beginning of the documentes was : the answer is easy, you do not need streroids. another important reason for wich is better stay away from steroids is the damage created to bone structures.my old neurologist(the one that agree with my decision to start ldn)that unfortunately dead two years ago for a pancreatic cancer, has never prescribed me steroids due to bone damaging. i know that it is possible to find different opinion, and i know that due to this possibility there are patz that can get different way. but i can write my experience,i'm not doing steroids since 2007 and i'm taking ldn + a lot of antioxidants(ala,lac,vit.b,vit.d3,mangostano juice, niancin and i drink only green thea 2 lt a day) well i never needed it and the few time i had a relapse it went away after several days without doing steroids but encreasing antioxidants. now it is more than 2 years that i do not have one. of course anyone is free to decide what is better for his health my best emiliano > > > > I have been on LDN 1.5mg for 3 months, now 3mg for > > last 2 weeks. > > > > I am also on 7.5prednisone daily and 15mg methotrexate > > (mtx, weekly once). > > > > I have severe polymyositis. Guest guest
That is true Emilinari, Dr Bob Lawrence is against the use of steroids as am I. However, in some circumstances when all else fails, you do need that little bit of extra help. I tried Dr Lawrence’s protocol for a couple of weeks before having to go to the GP as I knew steroids would be his advice and only did this as a last resort. Unfortunately Dr Lawrence’s protocol of increasing anti-oxidants etc didn’t work for me – however, this protocol is mostly for people with MS. I stopped LDN to take a course of steroids, they did nothing for me and my GP started me on another course which I combined with LDN and this had a more positive effect (Sept ’10). Since then a number of Dr Lawrence’s patients has written to him sharing that they too have had a more positive effect when combining LDN with steroids. But everyone needs to do their own research and it’s great we can share / exchange opinions and experiences. Jayne Crocker www.LDNNow.comImportant!
