Guest guest
Dixie: Everything you wrote is part of the AIH with the predisone and Imuran. I have alot of water retenion, pain in my liver area and also I take a nap everyday. This week my doctor put me down to 4 hours a day at work. I just get so tired. It is all part of AIH and the medicine. I take a day at a time and pray for all the people who have liver probems. Sue AIH Wisconsin
Guest guest
Dixie, Believe me you are not alone. I have, in the past told of the pain I have experienced. It has been there all along. As a matter of fact it was what I initially went to the doctors about and was way down the track diagnosed with AIH. I cannot lay down for any length of time as it hurts too much. The pain is constant and it is only now that I have given into my doctors wishes and gone on to strong painkillers, morphine, to try and function normally daily. I must admit it makes it easier to get through each day. I am, however, looking forward to the day when I will not need them. But you remember, you are never alone in this group. Bye for now. Guest guest
From Lisel: Dixie, I am a mother with young children and have been healthy all my life. I have had AIH for a year. I am just now getting symptoms. (Have not been treated yet. Have Dr. apt 25th) I am very fatigued. The best description is that you feel like a 300 lb weight is on you. I have nausea and some pain like a slight gall bladder attack. I also get a tingly feeling in my back around the liver area. I get itchy and today the roof of my has been itching. And...my gums are really bothering me. I have brushed a lot today. I also get sharp shooting pains and dull pains in my bones. sound like fun? Well it isn't as bad as it sounds because this is usually only in the evening or afternoon. And some days I feel fine all day. It is enough to make one think it is in their head (until it happens again) I hope your pain is not too bad and know that you are not crazy. Take lots of care! Guest guest
Lisel, When I first contracted this disease I knew nothing. Nothing about the disease nothing about this group and really nothing about my body. I too had most of the symptoms you described, the pain was the worst, even referred pain to the shoulder. But I would like to tell you this, I have come a long way since then, with pain management, the right drugs to bring the inflammation down and the emotional help I have gotten from this group. I am now officially in remission. There is hope for a future. YOU have to believe that. Positive attitude means a great deal, I really believe that. There are times when it is really hard, especially when you are feeling so very very tired, you wonder just how you can get by, but you do. I hope you get from this group what I have and it gives you the same strength it gave me. The rewards are in the " remission " Best of luck to you. I hope you recover quickly. I have an acquantice that is trying to talk me into taking them but she also sells them so I am aprehensive about whether they really are a good " medicine " or if she is just trying to make an extra buck. meles@... wrote: > From: meles@... > > Hi Lisel: > I have the same kind of pain and discomfort you are experiencing. Guest guest
Dear Dixie, I'm one of the rebels who has unexplained pain on my left side, but only rarely a twinge of pain on the right. However, " bloat " is my middle name! I also get very tired recently, but I'm certain it's because I'm tapering down on Prednisone. Are you taking it? What dosage? Are you by any chance tapering down? I also have been plagued by foot pain. They feel like I've just come in from walking around in the snow. You know the feeling, where they are slightly numb, burn and tingle? They're also cold all of the time. To a lesser degree, the pain extends up my legs (shin area) to my knees. I haven't read an explanation of why this happens but many of us seem to have some kind of foot and leg pain. Take care, Geri
Guest guest
My third year plus a couple of months on the meds... I am now down to 10 mg. of prednisone and 50mg of Imuran.... I have Cirrhosis that has not advanced any further. My blood levels are staying within range except my platelets that always are below and lower than the normal range. Yeah, my feet, sometimes it is like walking on 1 million tiny razor blades.... a real weird feeling. Guest guest
Jacqellyn, When I was diagosed with AIH, my daughter was 5 and just entering kindegarten. At the time I was very ill and didn't think I would live to see her grow up. But thanks to God, I was lucky enough to receive my transplant when she was 16. She is now 22 and a senior in college, so I have been fortunate to have all these extra years with her. It it difficult, though, being ill and having a child to take care of. When my daughter was younger, she always saw me as the "ill" parent and her father as the strong one, the one who was physically able to do activities with her. Sometimes, in retrospect, I feel bad that I was sick a lot but she knew that I was always here for her, and now that she is an adult, I am sure she fully comprehends how difficult life was for me at the time. Life after transplant is wonderful. I have never felt healthier. I am able to do all the things I never could, and when I wake up in the morning, it is a great feeling not to be sick. I have more energy and a new enthusiasm and appreciation for life. I wish you well. The road you travel may be a tough one, but you have to push ahead, have faith, and pray for the best. Bonnie P. Guest guest
Jacquellyn: Sorry to hear that. You will be in my prayers. I'm curious, how old are you? What are your main symptoms? What meds are you on? Were you stable during your pregnancy? Thanks, Toni P (AIH 6'01 and pregnant) >>> venture@... 09/19/01 02:23PM >>> Hello to everyone. I've been visiting the group off and on for a couple years now. I had just had my daughter when I found the group. I was finally properly diagnosed while I was pregnant. I've had my major ups and downs, and had to move back home from Europe because of being sick. Unfortunately my AIH was not discovered for a long time and my liver has too much damge. So now I am on a transplant list. I'm actually feeling pretty well lately (for a change!!!) and I carry on with life as normal as possible. Although I sometimes realize how " normal " has a new meaning. I can no longer work. My daughter is almost two and VERY healthy and happy. My main goal with her is to raise her in an environment that is as normal as possible. I don't want her growing up saying " My mommy is always sick " so I still have her in daycare full time and she loves going to " school " . I was wondering if anyone else in the group is in need of a transplant or has already had one. I remember one couple in the group a long time ago that the wife donated parted of hers to her husband. If you are still in the group, how are things going now? Best wishes to all Jacquellyn
Guest guest
Hi Jacquellyn, I too an in need of a liver transplant. I have a Childs Pugh Level A scoring for the cirrhosis of my liver. I too went undiagnosed for many years but was am also a recovering alcoholic. I suffer from esophogeal varacies and had a TIPS shunt placed in my liver last December. I am on SSD and have a 15 year old son who receives benefits also. I currently work part time, have been sober for over 18 months (just recently celebrated). I am currently going through and will complete in one month an Intensive OutPt Chemical Dependency program that is required by the transplant team despite the fact that I have maintained sobriety on my own for over a year. I'm required to attend several 12 step meetings a week and will probably continue to be required to do so until the day I get my transplant. Its pefectly understandable to me the requirements the transplant team has but I must say its been very time consuming and exhausting at times trying to juggle work, home and medical compliancy. I consider myself lucky that my son is considerably older and can understand whats going on. My goal is to remain healthy enough to put off transplantation untill he is out of highschool. The disease has taken its tole on him though, he was there when I had my first major bleed. I tire easy and hit the sack earlier then I would like to. Trying my hardest to make things normal for him today as I have some speculation of whats to come. The one thing liver disease has done though on a positive note... is it has brought is so much closer together. We have a very special bond. Trying to bring up a child in this day and age alcohol and drug free is a real chore (seems all kids use today) and with his understanding of what my body did to me as well as what I in turn did to my body seems to give him that extra push to say NO. Were considering joining a health and fitness club together next month (need clearance from my MD first) he wants to bulk up and I want to loose some weight and keep my bones strong. He is not embarassed to be " seen " with his mother as most adolescent kids are.... he knows my time is limited. Well sorry to babble. I hope things work out well for you. Have then given you a time line as to a liver transplant yet? On Wed, 19 Sep 2001 19:23:15 -0000, wrote: > Hello to everyone. I've been visiting the group off and on for a > couple years now. Guest guest
Dear Jacquellyn, I believe you are referring to Randy and me as we were the first living liver donor couple in the group (at least I'm pretty sure we were). Our surgery was Dec. 14, 1999. Randy has recovered and has been back to work full time. He changed jobs and has his dream job. People that meet us cannot believe he was ever sick a day in his life. He looks good and is quite active. A couple of weeks ago we hiked 15 miles into and over the mountains. We do some rock climbing also. We bike alot and do just about anything we want to. We plan on going skiing this winter. We are only restricted by what our age limits ( he is now 48 and I am 47). They didn't want us bike riding or skiing the first year as they were concerned we might fall and take a hit in the abdomin. Randy is on a very low dose of prograf and adjusted to the daily regimen of meds. He has been relatively healthy ( he has only reacted to his flu shot last year but then so did I- LOL) and a couple of days of sinus. Otherwise, a clean bill of health. His labs are always normal and life is back to normal. We have been so lucky as many do not have the same success that we have experienced. I wish you luck and am glad to hear from you again. Please keep us updated on how you are doing. I wonder if my daughter would be able to donate part of her liver...but I am still off a long time from liver transplant! At least I HOPE I am! Guest guest
nna, Has your Fathers DR talked about ever taking a portion of one of the families liver to use in the transplant? I read a story recently where a woman did that for her grandfather. The amazing thing about the liver is it will grow back. And it did after 5 months in the young woman. Both were doing great when that article was written. I wished there had been something on my nieces drivers license stating she wanted to give her organs up upon death. She was only 22 yrs old and died yesterday. Everyone should sign up to be an organ donor. nna Bond " <mbond@...> Subject: completely off topic - please help! Guest guest
Hi , Quite an interesting case. I have seen several patients that have received liver transplants but no one who has donated one! The treatment you are doing sounds excellent. If she is getting tenderness in her liver after taking the drops I would probably reduce the dose, maybe to 3 drops bid until the tenderness improves and slowly increase upto full dose. I agree that the tenderness is probably a sign of regeneration in the liver. You could use #258 to help with the break down of scar tissue and #243 for inflamation and regeration of the hepatocytes. (#20, 243, 258 would be a good combo). Also consider Ribes Nigrum for the stress of the surgery. The liver is an amazing organ in its ability to regenerate, a full 50% of the liver can regenerate within one month after transplant. Your patient is very brave and altruistic. Let us know how she does, Keivan Jinnah, ND, LAc Portland, OR liver transplant Hi- Has anyone ever worked with a patient who has donated an organ, particularly the liver/gallbladder? I have been working with a very healthy woman who donated 60% of her liver to her cousin. She is in about the 4th month of recovery. I have been treating her with ichol plus and # 2, 20 226 for constipation and liver support. Constipation as they took her gallbladder as well. This has worked very well for her. My concern is she has mild liver/abdominal tenderness for a few hours after taking the numbers. I was thinking it was due to stimulation drainage. She has generalized tightenss from the surgery that is improving. She is ofcourse doing COP, fish oil, diet, HMF, B's. I also started her on Silicea 6x and hypericum 30c for the scar healing/pain. If anyone has experience with liver regeneration, any thoughts would be appreciated, particularly contraindications. I feel the drainage will be helpful for her, but havent treated this before so it raised questions. she also has unexplained elevated ANA. I have looked at the archives for scar therapy, but if there is more to comment would be appreciated Thanks ND Normandy Park WA __________________________________ Discover Use to plan a weekend, have fun online and more. But then he does not like to guess and tell me ahead of time. Right now he thinks I am getting better. Maybe regenerating the liver?? or at least the part that is not cirrhotic is getting better? I do not quite understand! Clara from Or
Guest guest
Oh Clara, I wish I COULD tell you the info you requested. Yes, my doctor and I have discussed it, but she just wants me to know that IF and when I DO need it, I am as " healthy " as I possibly can be. It is my understanding that the sicker you are with other problems, the less likely chance you have of getting one. For example....I had a friend with AIDS who could not qualify, so that is one thing that I do know. Also, I have heard of others who needed a transplant, but they had too many other serious issues going on to warrant the risk of a transplant....that is about all I know. There are those on the list here who are more qualified than I to help you with your questions.... Guest guest
Debby, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know that some serious conditions will not allow you to get a liver transplant. But when my sister was considered for a lung transplant there was an age issue also. She just barely qualified due to being 61 years old! So I was just wondering???????????
