Have your docs tested you for some kind of b vitamin deficiency? B-12, B-6 or folate deficiencies can cause muscle twitching, along with other symptoms. Potassium or magnesium deficiency can also cause muscle twitching as can low vitamin D levels.

Left untreated, a vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to more serious symptoms, such as poor muscle coordination and balance; peripheral neuropathy --- characterized by twitching, tingling or numbness in the toes and fingers; impaired mental clarity, i.e., forgetfulness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, impaired judgment and control of impulses; tinnitus, or ringing in the ears; and dementia.

Diagnosis

Your doctor can perform a physical examination and a series of tests that include a complete blood count (CBC) test to check red blood cell count and a blood test to check vitamin B12 levels. He may also check your folic acid levels because the deficiency symptoms are similar. In addition, people who are vitamin B12 deficient tend to also be deficient in folic acid. Your homocysteine and methymalonic, or MMA, levels may also be checked because high levels of these substances indicate low vitamin B12 levels

I feel like a broken record sometimes -- just posted similar info 2 weeks ago.

From my book, " The Magnesium Miracle " by Carolyn Dean MD,ND

" magnesium eliminates spasms " , and " muscle twitches are a sure sign of magnesium

deficiency " .

I treat my MS spasms and cramps with calcium, magnesium, Vit D supplements. I

take both throughout the day with meals and more if/when spasms start. Two

pills of this calcium supplement taken when spasms start, usually relieves them

in about 20 minutes.

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=VS-1087

Taking LDN did seem to increase spasms at first, especially when I tried to go

to 4.5 mg. For me, cold feet was a big trigger. Either because it's warmer,

and/or I've adjusted to the higher LDN dose, I almost never have spasms at all

now.

Some reading on this:

The Treatment of Neuro Muscular Spasm in Multiple Sclerosis by Dr. Bob Lawrence

http://forum.ldnresearchtrust.org/index.php?showtopic=39

He explains that cramps usually mean calcium deficiency, while spasms indicate

magnesium deficiency. Since you say you are Vit D deficient, it makes sense

that you're probably not absorbing calcium either since Vit D helps that.

The Importance of Magnesium

http://ldn.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=links & action=display & thread=2326

Explaining why most of us are deficient:

http://www.health-and-wisdom.com/images/shealy%20mag%20oil%20testing.pdf

Since my last post here re: restless legs syndrome, I've learned from a fellow

forum member about magnesium chloride. Before, I really didn't think the kind

of magnesium made any difference. Reading here:

http://www.ancient-minerals.com/magnesium-chloride/

helped me understand that all magnesium supplements aren't the same. The

magnesium chloride is supposed to the most bioavailable and when the magnesium

separates from the chloride, it helps produce more hydrochloric acid in your

stomach for better digestion. All good.

I just ordered this and haven't started taking it yet, but I hope for even more

benefits.

Calcium and magnesium are IMO the most important supplements in controlling MS

spasms. Wouldn't want to be without them.

It would be worth a try for your symptoms to see if adding these supplements

brought relief.

One thing to consider BEFORE getting a diagnosis, is DISABILITY insurance.

Rather than call insurance " gambling " , I started thinking of insurance as " an

appreciation of likelihoods " . Statistically, we are much more likely to become

disabled and unable to work, than than to die prematurely and unexpectedly. If

we are dead, it's other peoples problems. If we are alive, and unable to work,

we still have to pay rent and purchase groceries.

My insurance man wanted to sell me some Unum disability insurance. As I

researched disability insurance, I interviewed an attorney that specialized in

disability insurance, he commented that Unum had a habit of allowing time lines

to run until all of the deadlines ran out, which allowed the insurance policy

to expire. From that, I figured that Unum was NOT an insurance company for me.

would be good if we had our own policy, and not a policy through our places of

employment. That way if the company goes out of business, we still have the

policy.

As we move through life, we are collecting pre-existing conditions. So even if

we are not sick, then there are any number of other reasons we may become

disabled.

I did see a combo term life / disability insurance package from Met Life.
