Guest guest
, Thanks very much for the reply and the reality check on people's time. Could you please tell me, what is kefir, how is it taken and where can I find Bee's suggestions? Also, does one ever actually beat this? My herbalist says 2 mos on the elimination diet, along with the supplements he's given me, and I should then be able to move on to a Zone type diet. I'm sure everyone's at different levels of severity, but do you or does anyone out there think that is a reasonable and realistic prediction? Thanks again, Laurie > Laurie, > > Sometimes we get a bit too busy and fail to respond but please know, we care > about everybody suffering from Candida overgrowth and we're are here to help. > > As far as food goes, proteins and good veggies (and water) are your friends! > (It's a bummer we can't go enjoy some bread or some chocolate!) > > The goal is to starve your Candida (to weaken it) and then hit it up side > the head with probiotics (pill form, homemade kefir, homemade yogurt) and > anti-fungals (raw garlic, wormwood, grapefruit seed extract, and many more). > > As far as ThreeLac, most people are not impresed. Guest guest
My advice is stick to Atkins, without dairy, for two weeks. You can do anything for two weeks. Once you get into ketosis the cravings should go away themselves. Stay away from low carb frankenfoods too. As far as commuting goes, pre-cook your food, and cook in bulk. Hard boil a bunch of eggs for on the go snacks. I usually BBQ a bunch of meat and eat that for a couple of days. Cut meat in strips and eat cold on the go. Guest guest
Debby, You sound just like me. I BQ chicken, ribs, sausages, beef a couple of times a week and eat from it the rest of the time. I have been on Atkins for almost 6 years. It was not enough to prevent a major Candida attack though. I suffered from traumatic stress. But as soon as I got super strict with the diet I had a die off reaction. Then I researched and found after the fact that I had been almost debilitated by Candida. I am fine now I will be on Atkins the rest of my life. Pam -- Re: Fwd: Newbie My advice is stick to Atkins, without dairy, for two weeks. You can do anything for two weeks. Guest guest
Hi there; I miss pizza! Had to say that first but I miss it more for the cheese and sauce than I do the crust. I also commute about 2-2.5hrs a day so I understand the dilemma. I tend to throw yogurt in my cooler bag for my morning " meal " when I arrive at work unless I haul myself out of bed early enough to eat at home. As for turkey bacon....well, there's a fair amont of preservatives and modified stuff in that as well as I do think some of them contain sugar of some form as do most processed foods. Another morning quickie can be a couple of scrambled eggs. My lunches are mostly mixed green salads with some cut up chicken that I cook up the night before and I make my own salad dressing with oil and lemon and whatever spices I feel interested in that day. (keep the dressing separate until you are ready to eat otherwise you can get soggy salad, yuk). As for dinners I pretty much stick to protein and veg. BBQ the meat as much as possible cause I'm not a big fan of doing pots and pans and mostly I steam the veggies. It's pretty basic and for a little variety I try to find spices and the like that don't bother my digestion. I found it a bit difficult to figure out how to make things without vinegar but I found that anywhere you would use vinegar you can substitute lemon juice. I now am able to eat some fruit but I didn't eat any for about 5 months...ok I tried a piece every now and again to see if I was ready but only recently have I been able to eat it without a reaction. Lot's of water and read the labels in the store when you shop...the more stuff sounds like it was made in the mad scientists lab the less likely it is to be good for you. Hope that helps, oh ya water and water with lemon juice helps a lot. Cheers Sue lree32 <albanolaurie@...> wrote: Hey everyone (again), Gee, I'm not trying to be a pest, but wow, not one response to my email! What I do is similar to you, but a step further. I buy large amounts of meat in bulk. Lots of max packs of boneless skinless chicken and cheap steaks. Then I make a marinade/salad dressing with lemon juice, olive oil, salt, fresh garlic and fresh herbs (I like cilantro and/or basil and oregano). I call it my paleo paste. I mix the paleo paste in my magic bullet blender (blender or food processor works too) to throughly blend the ingredients. It makes the mixture thicker than not blending and ensures the oil and lemon juice don't seperate. You can add water to the mix if you don't like at as strong. I marinate all of my meat in paleo paste for at least a day. Thick cuts of chicken I poke holes in so that the paleo paste soaks all the way through. It takes me all of two minutes to pour the ingredients for the paleo paste into a blender. The juice is from a bottle, pre-chopped garlic from a jar, rip off some cilantro leaves and stems (since it is so well blended, I add the herb stems as well for extra fiber and nutrition) pour in some salt and oil and blend. Throw the blender in the dishwasher afterwards. Then every two to three days I BBQ a batch of meat on my gas grill on my patio. I got my nice gas grill for $60 at walmart at the end of the season.. normally $150! As soon as I BBQ one batch, I start another batch of beef/chicken marinating, usually while the other batch is cooking. I also throw bags of pre-chopped veggies in my veggie steamer. Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and pre-chopped cabbage. If anyone wants me to post my shower recipes let me know. I call them shower recipes because it's something I throw together in five minutes or less in the morning, then I take my shower while it cooks. Guest guest
Thanks Debbie for the tips! Yes, an Atkins style diet is pretty much what I've been doing with a few exceptions that my nutritionist allowed such as most veggies, unsweetened yogurt, one portion of whole grain per day as long as it has no yeast (which I'm not really taking advantage of). I've always been a sweetaholic, but I have been truly surprised at my lack of physical craving for sugar which is great! I am adjusting to what I like to call my romance with food that made it often times a social experience for me ie; going out for pizza on Friday nights, taking a drive for an ice cream, muffins or bagels on a Sunday morning etc., but the benefits of starting to feel better and getting better in the long run have helped temper that feeling of loss. Thanks also for the tip on preparing meats ahead of time. Once my kitchen renovation is done that will be allot easier. I appreciate the dialogue and your time. Thanks, Laurie > My advice is stick to Atkins, without dairy, for two > weeks. You can do anything for two weeks. Once you > get into ketosis the cravings should go away > themselves. Guest guest
Debby, I did not restrict those foods, such as, cheese and vinegar. I took Caprylic Acid for a month. The die off was like having the flu. It lasted a few hours. I also used a product called " Ultimate Cleanse " . As time went on I no longer had " brain fog " and my energy level returned to normal. When I stopped caffeine I noticed a great improvement as well. From time to time I make cashew butter and mix it with coconut oil. Whenever I do this I eliminate candida colonies. They are white mucus globs. Lately, I made some fudge with splenda and coconut oil. The colonies were much smaller than before. My future strategy is to do a parasitic cleanse. I have on rare occasions cheated and eaten donuts, cake, bread etc. I never have any reaction (except weight gain). Before, I would get so high and then crash. Guest guest
Well it is very nice to meet you. I have to say this might sound corny but you actually brought tears to my eyes talking about the way things use to be. Maybe I am just over emotional today due to lack of sleep but that just struck a nerve I guess. My name is Janine I am 34 years old and I have 3 children 14, 13, and 9. I had shattered my L4-L5 back in 1994 when my daughter was 2. They told me for almost 10 years that there was nothing wrong with me and that it was in my head. All the while medicating me for the pain. I then started seeing a phsyc. doc taking that med. Till one day I lost all feeling in my right leg and went to a chiropractor and begged for him to fix me. I was so afraid of chiropractors because of all the horror stories I had heard. Well lets just say to make a long story short. My first surgery with a neuro surg. was in oct.2002 they did a mico discectomy and removed the fragments embbeded in the nerves throughout the lower left side of my body. The wierd thing was the loss of feeling was in my right leg. I had tremendous pain in my left like it felt like i was litterally on fire. Well needeless to say the disc reherniated 9 months later and I went in July 2003 for a fusion with a Disc replacement. I am now almost 2 years out of surgery and I am in so much pain. They have told me the scar tissue is constricting some nerves they say that the S1 and the L3-4 are looking very grim and I am afraid to go back. It is getting to be unbearable especially during the time all of us women go through. That is the worst. I cant move for 3 days. Sorry if that offends anyone I just didnt know how to phrase that. Well needless to say it is inevidable I am going to have to go sooner or later and find out what is next. My husband is sooooooo not going to be happy. Well there is my story made short. I figured it was nothing because the pain wasn't well say "bad". went home put a heating pad on it like i would with any other pain in my back. and took a nap for about 2 hours when i awoke. i have to say it was the very worst pain that i had ever experienced in my whole entire life. (and I was in labor for 5 days with our daughter.) went to the hospital -- they gave me a buch of stuff to try and relax me so i could finally sit because the pain was that intense. I laid in the hosp for 3 days to finally find out i herniated my l4 l5 and my l5 s1. i got some kinda epidural and boom 24 hrs later i could walk and the pain was minimal. i went 4 months before i finally decided i couldnt take the pain any more as each day went on it got worse i couldnt even go shopping with out the burning pain and numbness go through my legs. In Feb 2005 I had my first Lami/discotomy on just my l4 l5 because the l5 s1 wasnt affecting me at all. I had the worst doctor in the world!!! my pain never went down it only got worse and with Physical therapy it got to were i had pain down my right leg. I went in and he told me i quote "I can look at you and know there is NOTHING wrong with you, it is just in your HEAD. They have doctors for that you know" "and that I should start getting used to pain because it will ALWAYS be there" just what you wanna hear from your doctor. I cried for another MRI told him straight out it is my money that is payin for it and that he will order it. well low and be hold i guess he doesnt have xray vision!!! i had rehernated my l4 l5 and my l5 s1 is now affecting me more. I of course found a great nerosurgeron who took the time to sit with me and explain all of my options. decided to go with my second lami/discotomy on my l4 l5 and also my l5 s1. that was may 27 and so far so good yea ill admit i take my pain killers when it goes above what i can truly take. But things are getting better. They dont think ill ever get full feeling in my left leg when the 2nd hernation happened the matter from my disc actually penitrated my nerve so i do trip alot but im starting to use a cane, and just becoming more aware of my surroundings. I'm learning from my PT that I need to say NO to alot of things lol ( i really like this guy) going up and down stairs really strain me so hubby has to do all the laundry and of course there is next to no lifting. I will admit it is very depressing to think of how i was almost a year ago. being able to play with my daughter at the park. I was never a mom who just sat on the side and watched if she wanted me to play in jungle gym with her i would. Oh how i cherish those days and memories. she has had to learn very quickly that mommy just can't do what she used to be able to do. and shell come up to me and say its ok and thats shes a big girl now, then shell ask how im feeling and rub my back. but over time im really hoping things will get at least some what better. I've been fortuate enough to where ive been a stay at home mom since she was born, so we are used to having to "rough it" so to speak. So there is my depressing story, i wrote most of it because we all share that one common thing. That pain that no one can understand, nor can we sometimes explain ( at least i can't) I'm off to bed finally hopefully sleep will come to me tonite. since the surgery i havent been able to fall asleep until 4-5 am. Guest guest
Janine Hi there Sorry i made you cry, I actually cried the whole time write it down. I still can't get over how " our " life has changed. The whole why me situation. But as always I'll deal with the deck that has been delt to me. I have to say having a good PT on your side does help. He ruptured 2 of his disc's about 10 years ago and refused to have any kind of surgery. He admits there is pain (good days vs bad days) So when he tells me what kind of movements I should be doing- let's just say I'm taking notes. Have a great day in Wisconsin
Guest guest
Hi , You are so young to be going through this. I am 35 I feel as though I am too young for this as well. I was in a minor MVA about 2 and 1/2 years ago. My youngest was not yet 2. It left me with 2 herniated discs in my lower back and joint problems in my neck. My lowest disc has almost been the death of me. It has since ruptured. It is so hard with little ones. I wish that my kids didn't have to miss out on so much of the good life with MOM. My kids are now 13, 6 and 4. And they have been such troopers. My oldest is a huge help to me. He does so much for me. And my middle child is my only girl. She is such a tender heart. She is always worried about me. And my youngest has been deprieved of being picked up by his mom as a toddler. It has been so unfair to them. But you know we do what we have to. And I think kids are so amazing. I am so blessed to have the children that I do. And I am very grateful for the Hubby that I have. I am sorry you had to deal with such a terrible Doctor. That is terrible what he said to you. If only he could walk a day in your shoes. It sounds as though you have a good support system within your family. I can't imagine making this journey without the support of my family. It is so nice when the hubby is willing to do laundry or cook dinner or whatever the need may be. And your little girl sounds so sweet. My little girl will come up and rub my back too. It definetely tugs on my heart strings. I look forward to getting to know you. Take care, Katrina in Idaho
Guest guest
it is awsome to have a person around you who knows what you are going through. Especially a PT. Guest guest
Hi, To detect hypothyroidism a blood test is done. Its called Thyroid profile and denoted as FT3,T4,TSH.It measeures the quantity of Free T3,T4 and TSH in your blood. If T3,T4 are low and TSH high then you have hypothyroidism. To know if you have an auto immune disease of the thyroid, another blood test called " Anti thyroid Anti body (TPO,Tg) " can be done. Guest guest
Hi, I know exactly how you all feel, I have been struggling to get back on the right track for around five years, I live in th UK and have had a different consultant every time I've been to the hospital. There is so much conflicting information on the internet you don't know who is right and whi is wrong, all I can say is that I have tried many different things and this is what I learned for anyone who is interested. I put on an extra 15ibs in weight, but have lost it now and I'm back to 166lds at 55 years old, much of my strength and mental ability has returned, All I did was to slowly adjust my thyroxine intake until my TSH level was as close to 1 as possible, the consultants were only looking at T4 and T3 and didn't seem to care how I felt, I don't care about T4 and T3 levels all I know is that I feel a damn site better at TSH 0.5 than I ever did at 3,5 to 5.5. Also I bought a medical thermometer and checked my basal temp. every moning, I was amazed, as 3.5 TSH I was 1.4 degrees too cold, suffered with a sore throat , cuts wouldn't heal quickly, etc. The one thing you mustn't do is increase thyroxine intake quickly, as I found out, it causes your heart to palpitate or skip a beat, only go up slowly. I also halfed my alcohol intake, only drink rice milk and goat's milk, reduced meat intake to 1 small potion a day, no ice-cream, cakes or biscuits, take flax seed oil for omega 3, eat more fresh fruit and veg. I too tried anti depressants, but if you work at heights or operate machinery, forget it, you end up happy but in a stupor, you could try a quarter of the dose at night if you need some sleep, insomnia was also a big problem. Give it a try you have nothing to lose. This is my fourth day of following a candida diet and I am esp. interested in learning from all of you who have much more experience in the arena than I do. I noticed that all the coconut oil recommendations are for extra-virgin organic coconut oil. I live in a very small town in MS and do not have a health-food store in the area. I only found generic coconut oil at Walmart. Will that work as an anti- fugal, too, or should I seriously consider ordering oil online? ==>The generic coconut oil at Walmart is not good to have. Get a good coconut oil online. I love Tropical Traditions: http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/ and they provide excellent service - my sister sent some to me. But here in Canada I can buy Garden of Life which is excellent as well. See our " Coconut Oil " Folder for more information. Guest guest
Yes, K.G., please do not use the Wal-Mart Coconut Oil internally nor for applying to the skin. You could use it for polishing wood furniture. Bee > > > > ==>The generic coconut oil at Walmart is not good to have. Get a > good > > coconut oil online. Guest guest
Well, I followed your advice and threw out the WM oil and got a jar of organic virgin coconut oil. I am AMAZED at the difference in color, smell and taste. I can actually eat it plain, right off the spoon. It's definetly worth the extra $$!
