Guest guest
Hello all and a very warm welcome to all newbies. My name is also Carol and I do not have arthritis, but my 33 year old daughter, Esther does. She has had Still's Disease since the age of 8 and has had multiple joint replacements, revisions of the replacements, and has also lost both a hip and a knee replacement due to infection. She is wheelchair bound now. I just wanted to comment on the faith issue. Today a missionary from China spoke at our church. He told us that a few months ago his 14 year old daughter was diagnoised with a fast growing brain tumor that would cause blindness. He asked for prayer through the internet. The surgeon called them and wanted another MRI before they did the surgery and low and behold the brain tumor dissappeared! (he even had the MRI's with him today) Around that very same time his 12 year old daughter came down with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Again prayers were offered up but there was no miracle for her. She is in constant pain and walks with crutches. He commented that he didn't know why God healed one daughter but not the other. I have never understood why some have to suffer and others don't. My thought....and I have thought about this now for over 25 years.....is that perhaps this is some kind of a test. I want to encourage all of you and tell you that your love and compassion for each other has really blessed me. This one thing I know for sure is, that in eternity.....and eternity is a long long time.....your painfree joy will be multiply compared to mine! I give you all " gentle hugs " . I know without my faith, I don't think we could have come through all the trials and tribulations that arthritis brings. I thank a and for allowing us to remain on this list because you have all inspired me with all your compassion and love for each other.. Esther has been keeping busy and hardly is on the computer anymore. Just wanted to encourage you all.....that this isn't all there is! Guest guest
Hi Carol, Welcome. I also have Still's Disease (Adult Onset) but it hasn't been as bad as Esther's. I hope she is living as pain free a life as possible. Having two children, I can only imagine what you have had to endure. My thoughts and prayers are with you. It is hard to understand why some suffer and other's don't and it really tests one's faith. Some folks believe it's just a random occurance, but I don't believe that. I think there are some questions we have no answers to. At least we don't now. My faith has kept me going as well. Thanks for posting and welcoming us newbies. All my best to you and Esther. It sounds like Esther has had a really hard time. What a brave soul I'm sure she is. But it's wonderful that she's keeping so busy. Make sure you give Esther a big hug from all of us. Guest guest
Carol, Thank you for those warm thoughts and encouragement. It is comforting to believe that we all will have an eternity of being painfree. The mental pain that you have suffered for all these years is also great. I am glad that it is me that has this disease and not my child. I know you would gladly take Esther¹s pain. Without my faith, I would be a very angry person. There was a time when I was very angry. But I am humbled by so many great people, partners in suffering, comrades in coping. It¹s great that Esther is so busy that she doesn¹t have time for the computer. She is leading a full life in spite of the hand that was dealt to her. Wonderful parents had a lot to do with that!!! Hugs, a > Hello all and a very warm welcome to all newbies. Guest guest
Oh, you are quite welcome, a. I think when one has a chronic illness, that they go through those same stages that one goes through in dealing with death. First shock, disbelief that this has occurred to you, then anger that this has happened to you, and then, finally, acceptance. And I think one would switch from acceptance to anger off and on. So, a, you are normal ~smile~. How true your words are. Although I have not had arthritis, I feel like I have! And it was very hard to watch a child go through all that pain and suffering! So, those of you with family members......know too, that they in a way have this terrible disease too! Esther has a no quit personality and she loves to stay busy. She is dating now and he is very acceptable of her. She also has received another raise at work which is good for her ego. She still works part-time three days a week with mentally challenged children and is very good at what she does. Be careful this summer with the mosquitoes! I worry about this West Nile Virus and they say that those with autoimmune disease are very acceptable to it. Perhaps this very dry weather here in South Jersey is keeping the mosquitoe population down. I also read somewhere that those who take MSM are protected from mosquitoes in some way. ~Hugs~ Love ya! Guest guest
Hi Carol, I thank you for your inspiring words. Esther is lucky to have a devoted mother like you. She sounds like a strong person. I find that I always feel a little better with a hug from my son. Love and Hugs Stacey in PA
Guest guest
Carol, I¹ve never heard of the MSM  mosquito link and had to look it up. This is what I found: MSM is an anti-venom that can quickly bind up foreign proteins such as snake bites, flea bites, black widow bites, bee stings and mosquito bites. http://www.wwns.com/oxygen/msmfacts.htm Pretty interesting. We haven¹t had many mosquitoes here either. That is the ONLY good thing about this drought. Hearing how well Esther is doing is really wonderful. There IS life with RA. Tell her congratulations on that raise! Do you believe my grandson is already a month old? We got to babysit him for the first time Sunday. He¹s so cute!!! Hugs, a > Oh, you are quite welcome, a. Guest guest
This to be a much different list as many of the list I to be on in past you to mention God would be to get much angry. I to just learned that to say hims name causes others to get angry and not knowing why. Yet Cheryl I to agree with you much on hims value. He to be to get me through every minute in life. I to be a new Christian and God concepts are much hard to me but I to be to have very special friends in my church that to be to love me and help me to understand God concepts. I to be to go to a Grace Brethren church. At my church much people are so open to people of special needs and accept us much with loving arms. I to not have birth family to love me and teach or guide me but I to have much faith family who do be to help me, teach me and to guide me in life things as well as God things. They to not give me those glaring eyes from society but they see me as God sees me. Sondra
Guest guest
I'm a non-practicing Catholic. For a long time when people would talk about God, or quote the bible or whatever, I'd just roll my eyes and mumble something about them being a " religious freak " . I know that sounds terrible but that's how I felt. Since I've had my daughter I view my entire outlook in a completely different way. Now it's more like, hey, whatever gets you through the day! If having faith in God or a higher power makes your life worth living and gives you comfort on this long and sometimes frustrating journey, then good for you. We all deserve some peace of mind. So, there you go, my 2 cents worth. Although with the prices the way they are today, maybe I ought up my cost to a whole nickel!! Rhonda in NH where we're getting more snow tomorrow and Tuesday. I always thought of those things as a big cop out myself. I also found your " weather report " amusing Ronda!! Re: faith I'm a non-practicing Catholic. Guest guest
FAITH Such Faith!!! A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said, "Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side."Very quietly, the doctor said, "I don't know.""You don't know? You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?"The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side of which came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness. Turning to the patient, the doctor said, "Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang inwithout fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing...I know my Master is there and that is enough."READ AND RETURN (sorry - will not break this) May today there be peace within you. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be."I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."Just send this to (4) people and see what happens on the fourth day. Guest guest
We just got the helmet last Thursday. and only 1 redness was noticable lasting 3-6 hours went back to Paramus NJ to get ajusted on Mon. Went back today b/c the same red spot plus this morning I found 2 new red spots and 1 lump back of head(now 3 red spots lasting more then 8 hrs). I have been calling my wonderful daycare every 3hrs monitering the redness and the lump. NOT HAPPY SO FAR! @ least my daughter is in good sprits as always. The clinlic was not to sure either, they say it could be a bone part growing out ???WHAT??? Let's give a fews hours .It might go away. The one with redness and a raised lump is in the middle back of head where the seam of the foam of the band is. Will call them again in the morning to let them know that redness is more 12 hrs and the raised spot is still there. i will probaly go back to Paramus back after the P/T for torticollis in Hackensack hospital. Guest guest
Faith, I though of something. One of the ladies in the group I went to that one time went though something like what you are talking about. Could it be you are dropping the weight so fast that the toxins are making you sick because you can not eliminate them fast enough. I know my doc was so anal about the water intact....shessh at least 64 ozs a day or more. I am in texas so during the summer when its well about 100 degrees here I can drink 100 plus ounces a day. Are you drinking protein suppliments that are complete with vitamins in them? I would highly recommend Isopure. I am curious if you were proximal or distal? Amount of bowel bypassed? I studied RNY extensively when I thought it was the only surgical weight loss option. I hope they find some answers for you soon. I know with those low values can make you feel pretty crappy. Guest guest
Faith, I hate the Isopure fruit drinks!!! I agree with you there...they are nasty. I use the zero carb or low carb Isopure milk shake type protein drinks. I prefer chocolate. I mix mine with carb countdown type skim milk or other high protein milk drink and two scoops of Isopure. That 12 oz drink has about 60 grams of protein in it. I have a list of websites where you can order sample single serving sizes of different protein drinks. I have tried various different protein drinks until I found ones that I like. I love necter strawberry kiwi, and fuzzy navel. There is also a product called Unjury that comes in flavored and unflavored. I have been told the unflavored mixes well and a lot of people add it to there food and drinks to increase the protein content. _www.unjury.com_ (http://www.unjury.com) _www.txwls.com_ (http://www.txwls.com) _www.wlssuccess.com_ (http://www.wlssuccess.com) I don't use a lot of protein suppliments on a regular basis, but when I get an band fill I have to go back to liquids, then soft food for a few days while the stomach swelling goes down. I am having problems with protien metabolism as well.... My Albumin is low. I also appear to have a Thiamin deficiency ( AKA B-1) Thiamin is needed to process protein. ( I have this despite supplementation of vitamin B-1) These problems may be a side effect of the weightloss surgery I had 3 months ago as the RNY I had cause some mal absorption. I feel more optomistic today, now that the holidays are over, I might be able to get something done. Faith
