Guest guest
I've always looked at it the other way around. You want to keep your children around the germs and the kids they rode in to build the strongest possible immune system. sean > After listening to the panic about flu in the schools, my dh said that it > just shows there's > another good reason to homeschool- less chance of exposure! > > Lynn

Guest guest
My only expericnce with antiviral drugs was not good. I Work in a short term nursing facility. Last year we had Influenza A go through. They gave all the staff the antiviral Tamaflu (sp?) Since I was not sick, I was to take 1 pill per day for 10 days (IF already sick you were to take 2 pills per day for 5 days.) Well on day 3, I started to have weird problems that I at first did not associate with the Tamiflu. My first problem was difficulty swallowing. I felt like things were stuck inmy throat and would not go down. The other sysptom was more of an anoyance. I had a facial twitch below my eye that constantly twitched and the final was blurry vision. I went to my regular Dr becasue the speech path I work with was concernded about my swallowing problem. Well the first thing he asked was was meds I was taking. My only answer was Tamiflu. He told me to stop taking it and NEVER take it again. All 3 of my sysmptoms were " known side effects " of the drug. He also stated that he NEVER prescribed it because of all the side effects. I recovered but it took over 2 weeks before I could eat or drink with out problems. andrea > > My 4 kids have been so, so sick. Guest guest
Right now she is getting pretty snotty and congested and not eating much, and throwing up, but she still is eating. She will nurse one side just not both. She looks terrible. I am nervous because she is so little. She is 6 months old and 12 pounds. If I don't give her the meds then what should I do for her? Guest guest
Is this preventable? Well, if you put them in a bubble, maybe, but short of that I simply do not see how. Several of my children have had perpetual runny noses and coughs off and on for WEEKS of late. We are finally, within the last week, over it. Life happens and so do sicknesses. I used Echinacea and Goldenseal with excellent results: the reprieves we got from the illnesses came when I used the herbs. If she is not breathing well, which my baby had when we had a truly awful, Whooping-cough-esque thing, there are worse things than antibiotics or hospitals (had both, not in favor of either, survived the experience, KWIM?). Try your best to keep her hydrated (fruit-juice popcicles, if nothing else) and if she needs meds, she needs meds: don't beat yourself up about it. Guest guest
What? That drug is also used for Parkinson's. Look at this warning (http://www.drugs.com/pro/amantadine.html): " Deaths: Deaths have been reported from overdose with Amantadine. The lowest reported acute lethal dose was 1 gram. " " Pediatric Use: The safety and efficacy of Amantadine in newborn infants and infants below the age of 1 year have not been established. " So, what would it take for an overdose? I'd be cautious. No drug will get rid of the flu. Homeopathics can help but there is no drug the doctor can give you which will. You don't know about this drug, and the doctor is prescribing it to a baby when it's not established to be safe. I would be very concerned about the side effects. The baby will not be able to describe how she's feeling from it, either. Her body is working hard enough with the flu bug. It doesn't need strange drugs to process out, too. You know what you're dealing with because the other kids had it. Keep that in mind. You don't have to wonder if it's something else. You know how long it took for them to get over it and the same thing will likely be for her. For the flu, you do all the usual things--fluids, rest, steam, keep her upright, etc. Are you nursing? Do you know how to use homeopathy? Winnie Influenza Vaccinations > My 4 kids have been so, so sick. The oldest three, 6, 4, and 2 > seem to be over the hump but my 6 month old is really sick. Guest guest
Going backwards through my emails... She is little--all the more reason to be very cautious about giving drugs which are unproven to be safe for babies. Nurse, nurse, nurse on whatever side she wants. No food, only nursing. Use a vaporizer, and you take Vit. C., no dairy in your diet. Spread towels around you on the bed in case she throws up and have her sleep propped up in your arms. Hope you get some rest. It's always worse at night. Winnie Re: Influenza Vaccinations > Right now she is getting pretty snotty and congested and not > eating much, and throwing up, but she still is eating. Guest guest
I decided against giving her the Amantadine. I just don't feel right about it. I am breastfeeding. She will only nurse one side every 3-4 hours right now though which is way down from every 2-3 hours both sides. I don't know how to use homeopathy. I wish I did. If anybody will tell me what to do to help her besides the breastfeeding. Should I get her Vit C at the health food store tomorrow? Should I just take it myself and have her get it through breast milk? I do not want to end up at the hospital with her and the doc really made me nervous today about how babies that little get extra sick with influenza. I think she was also just trying to scare me into getting flu shots for my kids next winter. Don't worry, it won't happen. -- In Vaccinations , wharrison@... wrote: > > What? Guest guest
Hi Adelyn You sound scared and exhausted. What are the sypmtoms of your 6 month old. Need more details before we can suggest other things Symptoms? Is she breastfed? Can you take Vitamin C if you are breastfeeding her so she will get it? What are the details Sheri > > > > > > > > My 4 kids have been so, so sick. The oldest three, 6, 4, and 2 > seem to be over the hump but my 6 month old is really sick. If she is throwing up it is not the flu, though people think flu has vomiting with it. It does not. She maybe throwing up because she is swallowing the phlegm. Can you suction her with a bulb syringe? Go in bathroom with hot steamy shower and try that? There is lots you can do without drugs. What is her mood now being sick - how does she act? She will nurse one side just not both. she probably just teething. my daughter went through the same thing for over a week. tons of mucous coughing and she would gag and vomit several times a day from all the mucous. If she is nursing then she is fine! If she keeps vomiting from nursing our doc recommends you feed her for 20 seconds every 15 minutes for one hour and increase it by 5 or ten seconds each hour. If they vomit you go back to the start and if they vomit after the first 20 second interval go to 15 seconds. This can be hard to do because they will want to nurse more than that but if they keep nursing and promptly vomiting they can dehydrate good luck and just watch for wet diapers and keep nursing her and skip any solids if thats what you were doing...are you taking any vitamin D3? Guest guest
The baby was up a lot last night, but she nursed a lot too so that is great! My biggest concern right now is just how stuffy she is and that her cough isn't a dry cough anymore, it sounds more congested. Her fever is not as high as it was over the weekend. She just seems tired and is whimpering a lot. Her eyes are very droopy and a little red. Her voice sounds like her throat might be hurting. She is having wet diapers. I am keeping her elevated and using saline for her nose. I did tell my husband that we need to figure out a different physician for our children. I can't keep going to someone who tells me it is my fault the kids all got the flu because I didn't get them flu shots. We live in New Plymouth Idaho, about an hour from Boise and a few minutes from Ontario, OR. Yesterday they swabbed her nose and said it was pos. for influenza. That is the only reason I know what all of my kids have been sick with for over the last week. They are all okay now. It is just the baby and now and she is not throwing up. She did throw up twice in the very beginning, but has not since. My 6-year-old also threw up twice with this. I am not taking any Vit C, but when I get a chance today I will go the health food store and get some so that I can start. > > >What? That drug is also used for Parkinson's. Guest guest
Kadence is very clingy and even when I hold her she still just cries/whimpers most of the time. If she is content with me and one of the other kids comes over near her, she starts to cry. When she is well she giggles when her siblings talk to her. She also cries/whimpers after she coughs, I think it is hurting her. Thank you for the support and information. Guest guest
Good--it's not a dry cough so that means it can clear out now. Fever's going down on it's own, good. It will probably go up again at night, not to worry. Wet diapers, so she's getting enough fluids. Good job. Keep it up! Guest guest
Yes I can! I just called Total Health and they said they have Vit C calcium sodium ascorbate and Pulsatilla, but they are out of the 30c strength of that. Guest guest
The Vit C I bought is Calcium/Sodium Ascorbate 250 mg chewable tablets. I will go to the link provided in the Vit C information and order the correct Vit C asap. I also bought Pulsatilla 6X. I just don't know what to do with it. This is the last time I will be caught unprepared for an illness in our home, I feel just terrible for my children that I didn't do/know more. Thanks, Adelyn > > > > > > > > >The baby was up a lot last night, but she nursed a lot too so > > > that is great! > > > > > > > > > >My biggest concern right now is just how stuffy she is and that her > > > > >cough isn't a dry cough anymore, it sounds more congested. Guest guest
I will send the administration info again to the list. For future reference I usually send about every week. But it may not be strong enough - that is not a very powerful potency. Is there anywhere else you can get a higher potency today - at least 30c? But go ahead and try the 6X - miracles do happen. Guest guest
Dear HH family, Thank you for the prayers, reiki, energy, thoughts in my behalf the last few days. It really made a Gigantic difference. I made my post with the intention to educate and warn about this flu that gets overlooked with the other flu's that are overlooked each year. I am very grateful for the help. This flu averages at least 2wks. That was really challenging flu. I have never had stomach flu like that. It has been 1 week and one day since it sent me to bed. Late sunday evening this week I knew it was gone. I'm physically exhausted from it, and that will fade away with lightening fast speed this week. Love, Light, & Blessings! Namaste' & Peace!
