Guest guest
Randi, That is the same plan BOTH of my docs have for me. One is a very good hepatologist and the other an outstanding GI with experience in treating AIH. They both plan to keep me on Imuran forever, so I don't think that is an outrageous approach. I am only on 75mg of it though, and that seems to be working for me so far...everyone is different. I use Nioxin for hair loss, helps some, but mine isn't as bad as yours sounds. I do see lots more in the sink than I used to, but nobody else can really tell. I keep my hair ultra short too, which makes it less noticable. I had the ultra short hair before though...love it! > I have been on both drugs for about 4 months now. He said he will try to wean me off the Prednisone but will keep me on the Imuran forever. I am not too happy with him, for several reasons, and currently have any appointment with the Cleveland Clinic to get another opinion. > > Randi > [ ] Hair Loss > > > I have seen that many others have experienced hair loss like I am > > currently doing......Has anyone ever tried Rogaine? Guest guest
I never thought about the skin absorbing the Nioxin/Rogaine. I wonder if dyeing my hair is bad? Oh well, even if it is I will continue since grey is just NOT my color and if I have to put up with little or no hair I at least want it a pretty color! Ha ha! Randi [ ] Re: Hair Loss Randi-When my hair fell out so badly in the beginning, I asked my pharmacist about Rogaine. She pulled out her big book, read for about 45 minutes and called me back to the pharmacy and said she can't recommend it. I should talk to the doc, but he will probably say the same she said. A couple of weeks later I was buying Nioxin for the hubby, and she came running over and said it was an absolute no no with my liver disease. Relaxed when I told her it was not for me and promised not to use it. We have to remember we also absorb things through our skin. And all those toxins, it is our livers job to remove them. So get it cleared by your doc before using them. I didn't bother, just took what my Pharmacist said as good. I figure she knows her stuff better on the chemicals in this stuff than he. As far as lower doses of immuran, I was able for a while to stay on a maintanance dose of 25 mgs. Maybe you will get lucky and get the same. It was great. No prednisone, only 25 of immuran, absolutely NO side effects. I did myself out of it though. When I was on it for a while, I figured why not go with out, it can't be that much difference. Wrong, very wrong. Went into a bad flare, and haven't been able to get on a set manitenance dose since. The moral of that story is don't try to handle you med dosage on your own. :^ I don't any more, but I also can't get on an even keel either. Take care, and remember, dosage and type of meds can cause hair loss. Like if you have a procedure, like the biopsy, the influx of meds can cause a temporary increase in hair loss. If you are being changed around on dosages of your meds, that may trigger it do be more too. Stress is a huge cause of hair loss too. Give it time, it should turn itself around. If not, talk to the doc, as hair loss can also be a symptom of thyroid disease. Good Luck.Love,Carole K> I have seen that many others have experienced hair loss like I am currently doing......Has anyone ever tried Rogaine? Guest guest
Hmmm- I started going to the salon about a year ago because my grays were 'taking over' and the over the counter stuff was just not strong enough! So far I seem to have had no problems with it. I don't know what I would do otherwise because the other stuff just did not cover it well enough! Oh well, I just won't think about it! What the heck was your reaction caused by - an allergic reaction to the stuff? That must have been scary! [ ] Re: Hair Loss Randi-You know I haven't asked. I don't want to, then I might have to quit doing it too! Since this all started I have been being taken over with greys! I did have one brand though that I used, then twice in a row, [after I was Dx] for some reason half way through the process my tounge and mouth started going numb. I was using professional dies from a beauty supply. Now I buy the weaker stuff in the grocery store. I go for mild stuff now, doesn't last as long, but has to be safer.Carole K> I never thought about the skin absorbing the Nioxin/Rogaine. I wonder if dyeing my hair is bad? Guest guest
That is so strange. I have a friend that has Lupus and during the course of her medication her natural curly blond hair turned STRAIGHT and BROWN. That was weird too. For the first time in her life she had to get it colored and get perms! And you are right - what kid of hair cut is flattering to this round full face of mine?! I like the length to hide behind at least! Ha, ha! Randi [ ] Re: Hair Loss Randi-I figured it was an allergic reaction. Didn't scare me though, I guess it should have. It just seemed in the grand scheme of things, like it wasn't a big deal. My husband was a little creeped out though. He was the one who insisted I go for milder stuff or quit dyeing it. What? Are you crazy? No way ! Bad enough the stuff is falling out. Can't come up with a hair cut that is falttering to the moon face. At least I can control the color! And I don't know about yours, but after it is dyed, it at least looks healthy for a bit. Rather than looking like straw. You know the odd part too is not only did it stat going gray, but it also became really dark dark brown. My hair has always been a dirty blonde to lite brown. It started coming in gray and with really dark roots - like I had been dyeing it. Weird, huh? I let it grow in dark, and was constantly asked why I started dyeing it. My grandma kept saying I should let it grow back in my natural color. Grandma! This is my natural color now! So now I dye it 'to its natural color', and everyone says how they like it so much better than that dark color I dyed it before. I just say "Gee I don't know what I was thinking then". Too funny. I don't explain any more - but I wonder what the heck they think I am doing when the dark roots start to really show.Love,Carole K> > I never thought about the skin absorbing the Nioxin/Rogaine. Guest guest
Carole, You can't win. My husband's grandmother had an interesting thing happen to her hair, her hair had gone white and than they put her on iron supplements and her hair grew in dark, this was when she was in her late seventies. Guest guest
Carole K, Thanks so much for the info on the Nioxin. I am very new to this and it never occurred to me that a shampoo could be harmful to your liver. It does make sense and I should have thought about it since getting it under the dressing on my PICC line burnt my skin to pieces! I'm glad I'm no longer using the Nioxin. Guest guest
Rose, I have lupus and AIH. I've known I had lupus since 96, but the AIH was just discovered. I am a member of a wonderful online support group for people with lupus. It is a lupies . I have had only minimal hair loss since discovering I have lupus. Well, except for during the period after my gastric bypass when I was having a rapid weight loss. However, hair loss very often goes along with lupus. It can be a result of the medications or the disease itself. The only med I am on for lupus is plaquenil so I'm not familiar with your meds. You might want to check out the lupies group. They have a wealth of knowledge on lupus. W [ ] Hair Loss I have AIH,Lupus, Fibromyalgia,Diabetes, Angina, as well as other problems. I have been experiencing hair loss for a long time now. Guest guest
Dear Randi, Hair loss is very very common when you have candida - it's on the list of symptoms caused by candida in my article. It will improve as you cure your candida, if baldness does not run in your family. I've heard that baldness may be related to a lack of certain trace minerals. You can ensure you are getting minerals for both possible baldness or candida by having plenty of a good grey ocean sea salt, like Celtic. I recommend 1/4 tsp. plus the juice of 1/2 lemon in 6 ounces of water 6 times a day; three with meals to aid digestion. Bee > I put hair loss in the message search but didn't come up with anything. Guest guest
I have had hair loss, but I have SO much hair that it seems less a problem for me than it has been for others. I have lost fully HALF my hair volume, but it hasn't been too bad because I still have a full head of hair. That said, I no longer see a ton of hair on the screen over the tub drain since Armour. All the years on synthetics, at varying doses never made a difference in hair loss. Armour has been the ticket for me. I detest synthetics and will NEVER go back to them. Guest guest
I read this Male Hair Loss Candida can cause hair shedding in male or female patients. The exact mechanism is unclear because there are so many possible pathways. The three most likely pathways are thyroid dysfunction, allergies and enzyme suppression. I would say you are in an all out battle and the " cleanse " you did was not followed up by a live foods diet or you are consuming chlorinated water, or have been re-exposed to a ton of antibiotics either in meat, doctor, or what have you.. There are antibiotics in our tap water. People are overfed them, they get peed out into our water treatment plants, and guess who gets them right back again? Also you can eat meats and dairy fine for a while, but with all the rain they have been having in Texas, whammo, livestock gets sick and they mass treat again... I know it sounds freaky but I would go get a colonic quickly.. A good 45 minute one where they fill you to the brink and stretch out the opening of your small intestine where most Candida lives. With 103 degree water, then down to 80 degrees to clench the colon, then up again. I mean if you are losing hair over this something has happened. Your solider's are losing the battle and you need to get that mass of candida flushed out with a quickness. Get off cooked food for a while. Its from a pay site so I am not sure you will be able to get in there. http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C7890.html Let me know how it goes... Nicoel Suzanne Author in Progress... -- Hair loss Hi I posted an intro with this concern but never received any feedback. I did a cleanse kit for 3 weeks and started losing large amounts of hair. Before this, I had never suffered the hair loss that is common to some people dealing with candida. I am no longer doing the kit and the hair loss is still present but not as much as it was in the beginning. I started a multi-vitamin, some people have said it sounds more like a vitamin deficiency. If anyone has any advice/thoughts on the sudden hair loss, please share it. Thank you~
Guest guest
Thanks for the input. During the cleanse (I used the Vita Cleanse kit by Gaia herbs) I drank only a combination of purified or distilled water, ate only salads, vegetables, brown rice, raw almonds, oats, only ate fish a very few times (less than 4 I think) no coffee, fruit, dairy, meat, sweets or other *forbidden* foods. I don't use antibiotics (unless absolutely and completely necessary, so maybe 2-3 times in the last 4-5 yrs. or more) My normal diet is about 95% fresh/organic/hormone free/non-dairy, etc. & I have pretty much been adhering to the cleanse diet since stopping the kit. The hair loss slowed down slightly but it hasn't stopped altogether. I just added a multi-vitamin to see if that will help. I tend to think that maybe my system was overwhelmed with the release of toxins and processing, it was/is shocking to loose so much hair so fast! I intend that as my body regains its health the hair will come back (and come back quickly and healthier than ever!) > > I read this > > Male Hair Loss > Candida can cause hair shedding in male or female patients.
