Guest guest
I think our condition AND the meds contribute to this. I used to awaken with nausea every morning, but eventually it subsided and now I only have it occasionally. I found if I made myself get going with normal routine and FORCED myself to drink a half glass of milk or something it disappeared. So my dogs make me get out of bed to let them out even when I am sick and hurt, and then downing something to drink would get me on my way. Also, regular routine and meals helps me. I find if I stay up or try to do something during the week (like a family birthday party or such) which causes me to stay awake later - I will then have that sicky sluggish morning. Good Luck. Guest guest
Hi Tracey, I am not on prednisone or imuran, but I do get nausea. I find it comes always when I've eaten poorly, e.g too fast, too little, too late after the last meal (mornings) etc. but most of all, I get nausea when I am doing too much. It's literally like a wave that knocks me out and I have to stop what I am doing or at least slow right down to a more steady pace, being working or thinking or physical activity. I never get to the stage of vomiting so it does not scare me that much now. My doc said it's because my liver is transporting stuff not at the right speed and that my over doing or not eating ok is stressing the liver. I see it a bit as a reminder to be calmer, more steady and patient, not so speedy and impatient with my body. Tough going at times. I find that small sips of warm water help the first wave and after that it's keeping calm, relaxing, some deep breaths and maybe a cracker or two. Hope you have a nice day, Sophie
Guest guest
Hi , I had sporatic bouts of nausea when taking my vitamins and other meds. Knock on wood, I've not had the problem in some weeks now. I am drinking much more water when taking my pills and I try to take them only on a full stomach. Just a thought. Guest guest
Paige, I had an ulcer last year and DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT! (They found it when they went in to do my botox.) I believe that our stomach nerves are all screwed up and send wrong signals -- in my case, I get those da**ed spasm pains when there's "no real reason" and then I didn't get ANY pain signals at all when I had a friggin' ULCER! I agree with -- vomiting blood is serious and worth a trip to the ER to get it checked out. Make sure they know about your achalasia (don't just tell them you have it, explain it in depth to the ER doc (not just the nurse) before they do anything to you -- if they end up scoping you, they'll need to be prepared to suction out the saliva in your esophagus, etc., and if they're not familiar with achalasia (and I'll bet you money they're not!) then they wouldn't know what they're looking at. Keep us posted, okay?Debbi in Michigan
Guest guest
Thanks everyone I am headed to the ER where my surgeon practices and knows about my achalasia. Unfortunatly, that is about a 45 minute drive past about 12 other hospitals. My surgeon and my GI know I am headed that way. I will let you know when I get home. Thanks for the quick replies. Guest guest
Hi Micaela I found I only suffered with nausea when I started my health programme to remove Candida. To help get rid of nausea, I bought preserved ginger in syrup. I would take a piece wash the syrup off and chew it, works every time. Guest guest
Dear , Are you still on Humira? I remember it made me quite naseous, as did Enbrel. Guest guest
Like many on this list I have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome with hospitalizations since 14 yrs old) and have also experienced and been hospitalized for Colitis (one episode caused by antibiotics). Medications sometimes helped the bowel spasms, but not much else helped. I read the information others had sent in about controlling IBS by controlling their diets. I was skeptical, but went ahead with the trial because I was tired of the symptoms and pain and frequent embarassments. I went on a controlled introduction of food diet. I first ate only a few things I knew did not seem to cause me problems: chicken, turkey, bread, fresh fruits, eggs. You have to get your system 'clean' before you start introducing other foods. I stayed on this for several weeks, with super-good results and an amazing reduction of overall IBS symptoms. Next I began introducing one new food at a time. If any of the IBS or food allergy symptoms showed up, I excluded that food for a few days and then tried it again to see if it caused the same symptoms. Many negative symptoms occurred within 20 minutes from nausea to diahrreah. Other symptoms showed up as the food was digested, including constipation or diahrreah. Such foods were then eliminated from my diet. It has been over a year since I began this program of eating and I am IBS symptom-free...unless I encounter a food that causes problems. So far I've eliminated the following from my diet: all corn and corn products of any kind. This means nothing with any corn syrup, corn oil, corn starch, corn flour, etc. Read labels carefully. all diary products onions Night-shade vegetables: potato, tomatoe, eggplant, all peppers any shell-fish cabbage family: cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, etc. beans, though I do eat peas The results are amazing. IBS symptoms have disappeared. No diahrreah, no cramping, no spasms, normal digestion, normal elimination. Ray Neal, moderator
Guest guest
Your meds might be at least part of the problem. I was on one that was great with pain but wasnauseated the whole time I was on it. I took hundreds of Dramamine in the time I took the stuff. I did find a source that was relatively inexpensive so it didn't cost a fortune the way the cute little travel bottle which contains a dose or two for a trip. Another OTC which helps lots of people is Bonine. If you might have esophageal reflux things like not taking meds without food or at least a full glass of water, raising the head of the bed ( yeah, like the silly commercial says--my brother's doc recommended it) avoiding foods and liquids which are irritants --alcohol seems to be one of the worst. If you have tried these things and your doc has yet to check out the reason for the nausea especially at this hour of the night, I think it would be a good idea. My brother had esophageal reful to the extent that just water would come back in a couple of minutes cause the esophagus had narrowed to the extent that it had to be dilated. Yeah I am trying to scare you cause an esophageal stricture is a rough way to go through life.I never talked my brother into taking care of his problem as I think it should have been and my doc also thought he needed other treatment--so if I can talk one person into getting treated before it's too late, I would be happy. But the first things are to be sure that meds aren't part of the problem and diet is proper, which would include foods to which you are allergic. I was allergic to iodine contained in salt water fish and had no idea. The original weight watchers diet called for 6 oz at lunch and 8 at night about 5 days of the week. I was on it for years off and on. After a few days I'd be up every morning at 2 am vomiting. Couldn't figure it out. Then I had an IVP done and had a potentially deadly reaction. That's when I found out about the iodine allergy. Now I try to stay away from tuna except for rare occasions(I still love the stuff) and when I do weight watchers I substitute chicken. I hope I gave you a fgfew ideas about things to check which might help you. I hope you find the cause of your nausea. I was so bad for a while that getting out of the house even for a baby shower for a dear daughter in law was too much for me. Life was really miserable then and I am thrilled that though I have nausea occasionally now I am nothing like I was at one time. GA
Guest guest
sure..... if i lay down right after i eat, it sometimes happens. it is acid reflux. i try hard not to eat before laying down and if i just HAVE to, i lay in the recliner or prop on pillows. see a Dr to be sure. xoxoxo cathy s in va > I am almost two years out and had a most distressing " episode " yesterday. Guest guest
I can understand that you went to Texas for all that great barbeque and Tex-Mex food, but what about the summers? Maybe it is all that great food out there that's upset your system. Seriously, are you taking any prescribed medication for your stomach like Protonix or something else? I have to take twice the amount regularly prescribed for people with "normal" acid reflux or other stomach problems, but IT WORKS! I was cut down to 1x/day and I couldn't make it through dinner without feeling sick. Lying down is about the worst thing you can do. Pacing the floor is better and drinking a glass of water--Tums or a liquid antacid could help for immediate relief. Believe me, all my meals are small and I don't eat anything spicy. When I'm "starving," a half sandwich is enough to fill me up. Crackers are great if you get that gnawing feeling when you're out somewhere and can't get to a real meal. My purse always has little packages of crackers or cookies of the bland sort. As always, check with your doctor. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Rondana. Marcia -------------- Original message -------------- From: rondana@... Marcia, Are you taking in enough water? Try the Isopure protien drinks,(not the shakes) and some gator-aide or pedi-lite. Also, take Immodium after each loose stool. These will help replenish your electrolytes from the diarrhea and help with the nausea. Dehydration or fluid volume deficit, can occur when fluid loss and decreased fluid intake happen together for a prolonged time. Symptoms of fluid volume deficit are: Acute weight loss, poor skin tugor( the skin on top of your hand can be pulled up and stays up for a few seconds when you let go), very little urine output, concentrated urine, low blood pressure when changing positions ( you may feel lightheaded), a weak and rapid pulse. Symptoms of dehydration are: Vomiting, diarrhea, Nausea, constipation, hard stool, dry mouth, thirst, decreased saliva production, decreased esophageal peristalsis ( difficulty with swallowing), poor skin tugor, increased respiratory rate, and the same symptoms as fluid volume deficit as above. You may not have all of the symptoms, just a few can may be enough. If the nausea and diarrhea don't stop with some of the suggestions above, then please see your local doctor. Don't wait too long..ok? You don't want to chance it! The past 3weeks with the liquid phases may haven taken a toll on you! Hope your feeling better soon!! Guest guest
Marcia, Why don' t you go see your doctor and run some tests? It is normal to associate all symptoms with the band after the surgery but I have seen that very often patients have other things going on. Go get checked out before you decide anything, I have never heard patients have nausea so many weeks after surgery. Usually it is the first days from and even 1 week after when some have difficulty swallowing. I can tell you many stories about patients thinking there was something wrong with the band ( or the band causing the symptoms) and finding out it was something else. Gall bladder, Urinary Infections, Strep throat, stomach flu, pregnancy, etc you name it. it is hard to tell form this far away but a few tests might tell you what is wrong.
