Guest guest
> > I recently came across this word and idea. I know this is an old thread but I was thinking about it today and looked to see if anyone else here experiences this. I too am a synesthetic, though for me the link is between colors and scents. Apparantly most commonly synesthetics see numbers and letters as colors. My own crossed wires seem to be mostly between color and scent, so that I smell colors. This doesn't happen all of the time, but sometimes when I see a color, fpr instance in a painting, I get a powerful shot of scent. My subjective experience is that the scent is in the ambient air around me, not just in my own head. I recognize that others with me aren't experiencing this, but the scent has an immediacy to it, an active presence, rather than having the color evoke the memory of a scent. To a lesser extent I experience this with sounds and colors as well. Strange but enjoyable! I'd like to ask if anyone else here also struggles with scents, even good quality essential oils, triggering headaches or migraines? If so, how do you handle it? I am going to have to invest in some sort of good exhaust system for my work area as I seem to be quite sensitive that way, which is not good. Yes.....My particular bugaboo is ylang ylang....If I'm around it for an extended period and the odor is intense, a headache is guaranteed..... Also, repeated high level exposures to EOs can lead to sensitization...The propensity towards that can vary from person to person.....All kinds of interesting things can happen then.... I have never experienced sensitization to an EO, but Loctite products do it for me....When I was working for an industrial distributor and we did physical inventory, a few minutes in the Loctite aisle counting had me sniffling and scratching like a demented monkey.....I never did figure out which Loctite product(s) were causing the problem....I just avoided the stuff in general.... If you are working with EO a lot, and this probably applies to other essences as well, a well ventilated work area is kinda a must... You might want to also think about hand and eye protection.... Industrial quality eye protection is inexpensive...basic safety glasses are under $5.....You do not want to ever get any EO in your eyes.... Remember.....just because the fragrant essences are natural, does not mean they are necessarily safe under all circumstances....They must be treated with respect.... -- W. Guest guest
Dear ,You bring up a very valid concern that I think is often overlooked in our industry. That is long term exposure to essential oils, the effects are largely unknown. Remember the " mad hatters, " these poor people who worked in the leather industry became crazy after prolonged exposure to mercury. Only because they didn't know better at the time.Glad to hear that you got away from Loctite products, I am sure that most all of their products are formulated using somewhat deleterious chemicals. Hope you are having a wonderful day! Be well, Markel Managing Partner www.eoilco.com www.eoilcolab.com www.GreenTerpene.com

My involvement with the EOs is more limited these days, but I still like to keep my fingers in the pot so to speak... Some folks may not believe it, but the EOs and the essences san be every bit as hazardous as any of the syns regularly used, maybe even moreso, because the syns are vetted as to hazard, before they ever come into use.... I'm not talking up the synthetics....It's something to keep in mind, when you're dealing with substances concentrated many times from Nature by the various extraction processes... Widespread use, exposure or whatever you want to call it, has only been for maybe 3 decades....The great thing is, they have proved to be relatively amenable, if not beneficial, to Homo Sap...... But it's your responsibility, if you're a user of these Gifts from Ma Nature, to educate yourself about them.....And to be aware of possible problems.... OK...off my soapbox for now....<G>.... -- W. Guest guest
From another group  I found the synesthesia Info. fascinating, never heard of it before.
