No, you are not taking it at the right time.  Saying take it at bedtime was misleading.  You should take it between 10 pm and midnight ideally.  You can take it as late as 2 am but 3 am or later is too late.  It is not about when you sleep but when the body has its natural peaks and ebbs in endorphin production.

Hi everyone.

I started taking LDN this past January. I had found info. online and researched it, then took this research to my doc and he prescribed 4.5 mg at bedtime. I took it to a compounding pharmacy who told me that they were aware with how it needed to be compounded correctly to be effective, so I filled it with them.

I've been taking it at bedtime, which for me, is about 3 a.m. I usually get up anywhere between 10 and noon...depending on how my night went. I'm disabled, so have allowed my body to choose it's own sleep schedule and this is what it is.

I have noticed no change other than I wake up sweating most of the time in the morning now. I have also felt worse, not better.  I had read somewhere online where this happens to some patients, but I didn't see a reason why it happens.

I am wondering, am I taking it at the right time of day (night)?

Does the drug work with the body's sleep cycles or should I be taking it at a different time?  I'm overweight, should I be taking more according to my weight?  I'm wondering because I've heard so many comments that it's helped people, but I can't even tell that I'm taking it...unless the sweating & feeling bad is a symptom.

I'm 48 and am disabled due to FMS. I have high BP, but it's being treated with Coreg and Diovan HCT and it's usually low, not high when I take a reading here at home. I have a little arthritis in my knees, but other than that, no other major medical problems.

I also take potassium for my high BP. Other than that, the meds that I take are:

Lyrica, Cymbalta and occasionally, Flexeril. Instead of using Flexeril, I've tried medical marijuana which I use before bedtime and it helps me relax and sleep (which is a lot better than the Flexeril, which can damage my liver).

I also take Prevacid for heart burn and a multivitamin when I can remember it, plus 2K of cinnamon/chromax a day.

Should I stay at my present dosage for a few more months to see what happens...should I have the dosage upped...I need some advice. I'm going to see my doc tomorrow and need to tell him something when he asks me about my experience with LDN.  If I need to up the dose or keep it the same, then I need some type of a reference as to why.

Thanks for the help.  *=)

The brief blockade of opioid receptors between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. that is caused by taking LDN at bedtime each night is believed to produce a prolonged up-regulation of vital elements of the immune system by causing an increase in endorphin and enkephalin production.

So ideally you take it before this time frame so it is in your system during this time frame.  You do not actually have to be asleep.

You need to give it more time. Also, LDN can bring out an underlying

candida infection and a LOT of people wind up having to treat candida once

they start LDN.

The issue of taking LDN between 10am and 2am has already been discussed,

and yes, do take it before 2am.

I'm also a night person (and with fibro) so I understand. A lot of people

here will tell you that it's a pathology to be a night person but since

it's been true my whole life I think that some of us have a slightly

different cycle than others. It would have been an advantage back in the

cave days to have some humans with a propensity for staying up late, to

keep watch.

Ditto (like that theory and consider myself to be a night owl)!!

That said, I’ve heard that there may be a link to nightshift workers having a higher incidence of Breast Cancer... Is that the Vitamin D or something else linked to natural/circadian rhythms or sunlight?? Very interesting...

I’ve tried to make an effort to go to bed before 10:00 PM but it just ain’t me! I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that my poor sleep habits are not good for my health.

What a complicated machine...

And here it is 11:15 PM again and my bleary eyes are telling me to close this computer down for the night!

Peace.
