Hi

I have been taking Maca for 5 years now, and think it has

helped me tremendously. I had a hysterectomy when I was 50, and of course, this

sent me straight into the menopause. This, coupled with many problems I

suffered due to Hashimoto’s disease, made for a very difficult time!

I found that Maca helped me to sleep. Before taking it I

would wake up around 2am and only be able to sleep fitfully for the rest of the

night so, consequently, I was desperately tired. Maca helped with this enormously

and also relieved the severity of my hot flushes. I would not hesitate in recommending

that you give it a try and hope that it can help you as much as it has helped

me. If I can give you any more information please feel free to ask.

Best wishes

I had a horrible reaction to maca. Some people with mercury problems (which was/is my problem) cannot take maca at all. So be careful if you have amalgams.

Val

I haven't tried it(yet), has anyone else?

My first order came from tree-harvest.com. I have been taking it

regularly for some time but can't say I've noticed any effect. I'm

persevering, however. Mayber it's a matter of taking it with the right

things -- see Dr 's Dynamite.

Hi Miriam,

It made me feel absolutely awful. I gave it away to someone else so they could try it. I have heard that mercury affected people (such as with amalgams or had amalgams) may find this unsuitable. I had had mine removed some time before (maybe a year or so) at the time I tried it.

Hi All

I've just been reading this thread about Maca, which goes back quite a while.

Does anyone else have any experiences with maca? Sheila, i think you said you

tried it - how did you get on with it? Was it any good?

Thanks

Chris

Hi

I have given Maca a fair try about a year ago. I took it for several months - and I can honestly say, I did not feel anything ... good or bad.... - maybe it's just me.

I also gave it to my hypothyroid dog - same results ... I could not detect any change in him either.

Best wishes,

I also took Maca - with the same results as . I

was not sure what to expect exactly, but nothing whatsoever changed that I

noticed - but then, who knows, if I had not taken it, I might not be the cheery

happy human being that I am - but then….

Hi

I found it quite horrible. It made me feel very ill, but I was having trouble with mercury at the time (soon after removal of amalgams), so bear this is mind if you have fillings or any chance of mercury poisoning.

My husband has it every single day on his oats and my sister also took it for a

couple of years to help her through the menopause - both have found it to be

exceptionally good for their particular needs.

Wolfe a health guy on the net says that Maca is absolutely essential for

someone with thyroid problems and I am beginning it myself so that I can do

whatever it takes to get myself healthy again, since they messed with armour and

have set me back 2 years at least.

I am now up to 4.5 grains from 3 grains just 2 months ago and feel less well

than I did then. Think perhaps today is the day to order something else,

perhaps the generics that Nick recommended.

Thanks everyone, it seems like people have mixed experiences with maca. i

didn't read the replies until last night, by which time i'd bought a small

amount to try. i tried it in the afternoon and did feel better. I will see how

i go on it; i feel i need something in addition to cortef because i don't really

feel like my adrenals are getting that much better. they are better but not as

better as i would like. Maca supposedly acts as a tonic on the HPA system.

Shomon interviewed an expert in maca and other south american herbs - she

has some interesting things to say about it:

thank you

I used to take Maca by the tablespoon when I lived in

Paraguay. It helped counter adrenal exhaustion in me. I loved it!

Hi . No other kinds of supplements or treatments are needed, nor

helpful, on my program.

The reason is explained here:
