Guest guest
Dear Mr. , My niece is still having alot of problems. She started out with Graves Disease, after they did the radium treatment,(about 3 mos.) she started swelling, they then took her off her thyroid medicene, she then got tingling & numb face & hands & had headaches. Her skin is discolored, very dry, peeling, cracking & itchy. Her skin feels like leather. She had a blood test this last week,to check calcium level, told her it was normal. Her thyroid tested dangerously low, could go into a coma, but they have not put her back on medicene to get level back up, as the specialist in Toledo, Oh. says she needs to see a dermatologist today! She has so many doctors, & none has any idea what to do anymore! Her hometown Dr. says she is learning along with her, as she has never dealt with anything like this before. I am very woriied about her, she is very bloated & puffy, she looks like death. Still, she is losing weight. She was hyper before the radium, & now is hypo after????? Her feet have turned a blackish brown color, & cracking open, looks like they could be amputated. Thanks for your help, Marilyn >From bu007@... Guest guest
Dear Mr. , My niece just got back from her dermatologist, she was told that her skin problems are from the sun, and taking Advil alot due to back pain, she took advil for a couple years for pain. She also said that it could possibly be the radium coming out of her body. So, I don't think any of these Drs. know anymore than when she started out with this. Thanks for listening, if you can add anything, please don't hesitate. Marilyn >From bu007@... The doctor's name is Langer. There's an article by him in the Alternative Medicine Digest: http://www.alternativemedicine.com/digest/issue16/i16-a52.shtml I haven't quite figured out this whole thyroid thing yet. I have a T4/T3 ratio problem (below range free T3) that I'm still trying to figure out the best approach to. I got it through my HMO strangely enough, but I'm not sure treating it with thyroxine is the ticket. J.
Guest guest
Hello , I talked to this Dr. in Berkey and she seems amazing and very knowlegable. One of her areas of expertise is thyroid and adrennal insufficiency. Her name is Dr. S. Fehrmann. She seems very " intune. " I'm not sure if I can give phone #'s over this site..I heard somewhere that I am not sapposed to do that. If you can't get her # from directory and if it is ok I will post her ph#. She gives free phone consultations. Julee

Guest guest
Hi Julee, Thanks for the name. I will try to get her phone number from information. Or, maybe you can email it to me privately. I have a goiter, and have been told my adrenal glands are out of wack. No one seems to think the goiter needs to be addressed if it isn't growing. I would like to see if I can treat it and my adrenal system before I have worse problems. If you find you shouldn't give her number, could you tell us what city and state she lives in so we can look her up? Thanks! Guest guest
Morning Jody, I have been on thyroid for several years. My first Dr. that delivered my first baby, said I had a low thyroid but I didn't have to take anyting for it if I didn't want to. So I didn't. I hated taking pills. A couple of years later, a different Dr. put me on it. Then after about 1 yr I went off for many untill about 5 years ago, my Dr. now put me back on. But I have always had this darn hair loss. Apparently it comes in but falls out. Because my brush is just full. Lynn aih Jody Compton wrote: > From: Jody Compton <intrigued1@...> > > I was just thinking about the hairloss thing. Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Just a thought on this....is the doctor treating you for your thyroid an endocrinologist? I ask this because thyroid is tricky. Your labs should read on the high side of normal to feel well. I have had this experience. My GI doc was prescribing my thyroid for several years and I would go in complaining of being tired and other things. My thyroid (on medication for it) was always on the low side of normal. He kept telling me it was my liver disease. I finally saw an endocrinologist when my bones started giving out. He checked my thryoid too and said it was too low....that it needed to be on the high side of normal. We increased my dosage and I felt better after about 3 weeks. The persistent hair loss is a side effect of low thyroid. Of course it also is related to pred and imuran.

But he is good and I can actually talk to him and get answers, wether I like them or not! It's believable too, because of all the testimonies of people complaining of thyroid symptoms, and still testing 'normal'. I read that in a medical paper. It would tend to make a person investigate their own thyroid more thoroughly if they feel hypo, but test 'normal'. Sometimes doctors do not ask enough questions. They just love that Synthroid, which is inadequate for some people. I looked into natural medicine, and am happy with the thorough investigating the practitioners are doing. Guest guest
, Information I found out of my book when I was reading about hormone therapy. "When thyroid hormone is deficient, the body cannot convert cholesterol into the key steroidal (anti-aging) hormones, including pregnenolone, progesterone, and DHEA." Take that thyroid medicine or you will remain estrogen dominant forever! Also to book mentions that taking coconut oil helps improve thyroid function. And stay away from soybean, safflower, canola, flaxseed, fish, borage, and evening primrose oils. Olive oil is good. These other oils boost estogen effects. bye, LIZ D --- Rabbitbrain@... wrote: > > If brain fog is pretty constant it can be a symptom > > of low thyroid function and also low progesterone. > > Something I experienced lately. Thanks for helping me to realize that. 2 Months ago, my doctor prescribed Armour for me because my thyroid was functioning low and also, my progesterone level was so low that she thought I had had a hysterectomy! I just recently moved to North Carolina from Michigan and I haven't taken my thyroid pill in 2 weeks! What a moron! Guest guest
Roni, I am going through the same thing right now! Let me know what you find out. I have not had my thyroid checked in over a year and need to do so. There is alot of discussion that you can be " pre-clinical " on a TSH test, but still be running low on thyroid. Some MD's have prescibed small amounts of thyroid supplements for those that are predisposed. Its totally bizarre. I am a very *warm* natured person but NOW my extremities get cold very very easily. This is a new thing. Also, my hair is thinning and I am a 38 year old male in otherwise decent health with NO family history on either side of male pattern baldness. Just to try to slow the hair loss, I have started taking Propecia daily. I also started using Nizoral shampoo (avail. at Walgreens) last week. I should also mention that both my parents are hypo-thyroid and were originally diagnosed around my same age. I have noted that eating any sugar exascerbates the symptoms. Have you noticed this? Perhaps Candida and Hypothyroidism are somehow related? When I return from this trip, I intend to: 1. get my TSH checked 2. use Great Smokey Diagnostic labs to run the Candida and parasite tests. 3. continue to cut out carbs and sugar (I cheat from time-to-time) Lastly, have you also noted that your complection gets milkier with more acne like symptons -- especially on the forehead and scalp? Are you also a good deal thirstier throughout the day? I have noticed these symptons, along with the continued brain fog and moodiness (weird for me because I am usually very easy to get along with). Anyone have some other input here? Is Candida causing an iron, B-complex, magnesium or calcium deficiency that is also causing all of this??? Please fire away...I want to make this stop. THANKS! Guest guest
Hi BW! <Its totally bizarre. I am a very *warm* natured person but NOW my extremities get cold very very easily. This is a new thing.> Yes, I can't sleep at night when me feet are too cold. It almost hurts!! <I have noted that eating any sugar exascerbates the symptoms. Have you noticed this? Perhaps Candida and Hypothyroidism are somehow related?> Since the first of the year, I have been following the diet very strictly. I want to say that my hair loss isn't as bad anymore (but everytime I think I'm getting better, I'm not...so all I can do is wait). Maybe the symptoms between Candida and thyroidism are related. It's pretty bad when you're a 29 year old female and your hair is falling out!!! <Great Smokey Diagnostic> I had the GS test done for Candida Alblicans but it came back negative. But I still have all the symptoms. Maybe I have a different strain. <Lastly, have you also noted that your complection gets milkier with more acne like symptons> My complection is sort of pale. No acne, but I have dark circles under my eyes. <Are you also a good deal thirstier throughout the day? > I'm am thirsty constantly!!! My doctor's don't think I have a thyroid problem, but I think they're wrong. Maybe someone out there know's a natural supplement to take. Does anyone think multivitamins will help? Thanks! Guest guest
Thanks and ! I was also wondering if anyone experienced any discomfort in their throat? It gets worse after eating. I'm always clearing my throat. I went to an allergist a while back and he checked the inside of my nose and throat... he didn't find anything. I was reading about Thryoid symptoms and one of them was throat discomfort. Does anyone have this? Roni
Guest guest
Hi ! Tell me about the Ragland Blood Pressure Test and the BTW? How low does the body temp. need to be in order to have a problem? How do I take these? You said liquid multivitamins and amino acids...... I have been taking prenatal vitamins because I was hoping on getting pregnant until I finally realized I had a serious problem and didn't want to pass it along to a child. Do you think they are just as good as the liquid? I really don't want to stop taking them.... when this problem is gone we want to start trying again. What are your thoughts? Anyways, what do liquid vitamins and amino acids do for thyroid problems? Another question..... have you ever been pregnant? Have children? If so, did you pass this problem along to them? I've heard that one can pass this along. Also, YES!! I would like a number to an applied Kinesiologist in my area.... Orlando, Florida. Well, thanks again for your info! Looking forward to more.
