GotMercury dot com says this kind of mercury in seafood is called methylmercury.

Also, they have a test kit for mercury for $25.

Re: Mercury in tuna

I dont buy the mercury in fish theory

there are other sources besides the main one of mercury /silver fillings

which include

possibly in crowns or root canals

passed from mother into fetus, there is research in this , one in

particular on a study of a dead fetus with mercury in the brain

(this may mean if mother had fillings child would get some mercury)

in the environment. maybe someone could comment on this

thanks, Amy

Did Dr.Cheney explain to you how he could tell the difference between

organic and inorganic mercury from your test results? Which lab did

your testing. My doctor told me they can't tell which type of mercury

it is.

Amy, yes you can have high levels of mercury due to eating certain

types/amounts of fish. My levels were highly elevated and I only had

2 small amalgams so it wasn't due to that.

Yes, Nat. He did explain, but it has been so long ago that I cannot remember.

If you go to the link I provided in my earlier link to gotmercury dot com, it

will tell you about methylmercury, which is what mercury becomes.

Rather, that link should be www.gotmercury.org

Amy,

when I had a bad tooth pulled 2 yrs ago that had been root canaled as kid,

they found a mercury filling at the base of the root of that tooth, leaking

like a sieve under the gumline, no one knew it was there, so I agree, many

do not know what they have in their mouths.

Stacey,

After years of eating lots of fish products my hands and feet started falling

asleep constantly and I was falling apart. Stopping fish completely allowed that

to disappear in a matter of months. Whether eating fish contributed to my MCS

-which is still very bad - is entirely unclear to me but I will stay away from

fish for good.

I also had a gold crown removed from over an amalgam filling about 6 months

ago. I felt better immediately and continue to slowly improve. I believe it was

put on shortly before I got CFS. Some people think the gold crown/amalgam

interaction can leach mercury into the body. I dont know - maybe knows -

but getting rid of that crown may end up have really significant benefits over

time. Its been in for 25 years.

Cort,

that does not surprise me, more and more cfs people I see or know keep

finding all kinds of dental issues in their mouths and feel better when

getting them out. I'm still working on mine, its such a LONG expensive

road. I wish there was a way to know if there is merc under crowns w/o

removing them all. But many of my metal crowns (scary metals really) are

very old and rotting away anyway.

thats GREAT news you got that taken care of and are feeling better...... I

am THRILLLLED to hear that!!!! :-)

Ground Zero for the CFS debacle took place in Incline, at the top of

the mountains, with the purest water available and no mercury at that

altitude.

Gold Canyon, Dayton and Virginia city - in the dreck of the silver

mines and loaded with mercury to the point that nobody in their right

mind eats the fish they catch - no CFS at all.

Yet people latched onto mercury as causative and invented every way

imaginable to ignore the way it didn't fit the facts.

Oh yes, " amalgams, amalgams, amalgans " they screamed at us.

So we showed 'em a CFS kid with sealants - not a single amalgam.

Didn't slow down their theory one bit.

It takes ones breath away, that this didn't even cause them to pause

for a split second before they said we must all be tuna addicts.

Mercury toxicity is of real concern for Lyme sufferers. (And others too but

even more so for Lyme)

Here is a good site to read more about how much mercury is in the fish you

eat http://www.ewg.org/tunacalculator

Note this is the FDA guidelines which I expect are actually too lenient!

Some great articles linked off that page too that are worth seeing.

Bottom line is I think Lyme sufferers should not be eating any fish if they

can avoid it!

<http://www.ewg.org> www.ewg.org is a good site to see what is in the

environment around us and one I recommend.
