Dear AllMy sister aged 50 is diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and takes 03 tablets of thyroxine daily. I intend to suggest her to try LDN. Can u tell me what should be the starting dose. Also should she continue taking thyroxine daily with LDN or tapper it after sometimes. How much time will LDN take to have positive effect. Thanks

I would like to add to the hypo-thyroid question. My pain management doctor just agreed to let me try LDN for fibromyalgia and small fiber neuropathy. However, I did have thyroid cancer and a thyroidectomoy in 2000. Can anyone tell me if LDN will be affective? I sort of educated my pain mngmt MD on LDN from the info off the web site. I do run post-surgical hypo due to synthroid and the cancer factor.

It's amazing what doctors DON'T know. :(

FYI: I have not taken my first does of LDN yet. I'm weaning off opioids first.

Thank you!

I have been on LDN for over 2 years and it was only last month that I noticed I was starting to feel a little hyper. I had my Thyroid tested and I was surprised to discover that I did need to cut my Thyroid drugs by 1/4. So, can LDN help the thyroid? Maybe, but if it does it may take a while. It can also depend on what is causing the thyroid disease and on how long the person has had it.

However, that being said, LDN isn’t harmful and may help. If she does start taking it, I recommend that she be tested at 3 months, 6 months and a year, to see if there is any change. Also if she should get a hyper feeling or start to get heart palpitations, she should be tested again, as she may need to lower the dose of Thyroxine.

One interesting thing I just learned from a Naturopathic doctor is that food sensitivities, especially to wheat, gluten and yeast, may help to contribute to thyroid problems. This is something else she could look into.

It works really well for most people with Fibromyalgia. It also helped my neuropathy. However, since you had a thyroidectomy, LDN probably won’t have any affect on that.

Since I am sensitive to most medications I started with 1.5 mg for a month, upped it to 3.0 for another month, and then 4.5 mg. I started last April. It took 8 months for my thyroid levels to change. Every body seems to be different.

Do NOT taper off prescribed meds on your own, without following the blood levels. It is dangerous to do so. I had mine checked every 4-6 weeks. They remained the same until Dec. In the beginning of the month they remained the same. and by the end of the month I became hyper and had to cut back by one third and then again some more in another month. Now I take about half the amount I was previous to LDN. My antibody levels have not come down. I had two surgeries, one in Dec and one in early Jan, therefore levels were checked prior to each surgery.

Good luck,
