Guest guest
This is a good question! I would think it has to do with the energy given to the soul- the clothing repesents your willingness to give and remember, to enpower the souls journey with your thoughts, and the gifts are a symbol of your continuing to care. I have read in various places over the years about the possessions of the dead-starting with the egyptians as a most well known group who practiced this, and they did it to help the souls along when they crossed the river styx, so it would have what it needed. In my religion we offer food from each ceremony to the sprits, sending with the food the love energy that was put into preparation. This is an acient concept, at its worst practiced by the Maya and inca in blood baths to various sprits of dead kings(Gods). Who knows what a spirit needs after dead, but apperently we have felt this need to " feed " the spirits of the other worlds since time began. Even those who lived in caves were often offered food after death by locals who believed in the contact with his spirit for guidance. Perhaps the soul does not just go directly to heaven to sit on clouds all day? Who knows, and I guess that is why we do this as a " just in case " offering. NO answers, just thoughts on the subject. Willow Hello dear soul family. I am from Bucharest-Romania- European Union. My belief is Christian Orthodox. My mother died this year on the 4th of January. The Cristian Orthodox Church, they say to give meals to others in the name of the deceased all the time: 1,3,6,9 days, 40 days, 3,6,9,12 months...and 2,3,4,5,6,7 years, and complete clothes at 40 days, 6 months, 12 months.....and 7 years anniversary, counted from the day when the person died. Now we know Human Being is made out of at least 2 components: Soul and Physical Body. Death mean the spirit is living the Physical Body. But I wonder what would a soul (my mother's soul) would do whit food/clothes/ furniture; even if that soul would have all these, would it be able to use them ? I wonder why they are needed? I wonder...... ......cause I believe it's just stupid rituals. For example, the great saints of humanity mostly lived in caves, isolated by the rest of the society, and be sure none did after-death rituals for them. So, why us, are doing and giving so many ??? " love inside you is the only thing you're taking whit you. " No furniture, clothes, food. Hope someone will help me to get this aspect clear for myself.
