Guest guest
Hello, In my effort to find a lyme literate doctor I found a doctor who is lyme literate. Personally I know nothing about medical. So I'm asking anyone who is knowledgeable on the subject to please critique this web site that was given to me by his office. I know that some tests are more accurate then others. How accurate do you think this will be before I do it? Thank you for your help. http://www.idcare.com/lyme-disease.htm

Guest guest
I would recommend our Lyme Literate Dr. in NJ. My family has been going there for years. The number is 732-905-9630. The Dr. you found is an Infectious Disease Dr. which is who the Lyme Disease Society is at odds with right now because they are denying Lyme patients proper diagnosis and treatment. The Dr. you found will probably take your insurance, but they will not give you the treatment you may need. A true Lyme Literate Dr. usually cannot accept insurance because they would have to follow the insurance guidelines for Lyme treatment, and that would not get you well. But you can submit your bill to your insurance company and hope that they will reimburse you something. My insurance reimburses me 80% of my Dr. visit, so it only costs me $30 to see a great Dr. who know's what she's doing and cares about getting me well. It's alot to think about, especially when your not feeling well, but you deserve the best treatment you can find and it is out there. Just to reiterate, an infectious disease dr. " IS NOT " the same as a lyme literate dr. Hang in there. Penni [ ] Would someone please give their opinion? Hello, In my effort to find a lyme literate doctor I found a doctor who is lyme literate. Guest guest
In case any of you are within driving distance to the University of New Haven, CT -- you may want to check out the following ILADS 1-day Symposium on May 17th. http://www.newhaven.edu/unh/lyme/ It is a good way to both get more of an understanding of what may lay ahead in your own treatment... but is also a good way to help you decide if any of these LLMDs (i.e. some of the best of the best) are the ones that you may want to handle your treatment. There is a 'meet and greet' at the end of the day where you can essentially interview the LLMDs (no, it is NOT a consultation!) and decide for yourself and/or ask questions about the presentations. Here is a link to the " Program Details " where you can see 'who' is presenting on what topic: http://www.newhaven.edu/unh/lyme/UNH_Lymeprogram08.doc It was well worth the drive from Toronto and for the admission fee (and you get a copy of the presentation to follow along)... how else would I have been able to get as much information as I did! / Charolette :-) --------------------------------- Ask a question on any topic and get answers from real people. Guest guest
I began seeing my physician, when I only had private insurance. She does not bill insurance or Medicare. I was able to bill my insurance and get the 80% reimbursement, as discussed below. As of May 1st, I am Medicare eligible and Medicare becomes my primary insurance and the physician, who is the only Lyme literate physician locally, requires that we sign an agreement that we will not bill Medicare because she does not meet Medicare requirements [i am not sure what that is about]. If Medicare is not billed, then my insurance [now a Medigap policy] will not pay. So, as of May 1st, all of my costs with my physician are now my responsibility. I am not rich so this is going to be a problem for me. I have made an appointment with an internist who is also an infectious disease specialist, but I cannot see him until August. However, he apparently knows little or nothing about supplements so I am not sure if I should even keep the appointment. I am also seeing an herbalist and an acupuncturist as well as a massage therapist. Kathleen Eureka CA Yes, they do. Does your doctor take Medicare? I would recommend our Lyme Literate Dr. in NJ. Guest guest
, There is no way around it. When a physician opts out of Medicare - it is their choice. Medicare pays a small percentage of what a physician charges so they just don't fill out the paperwork for Medicare and their charges are not accepted. I have had this problem since 1993 and we have spent our retirement money since both my husband and I have had Lyme and we've paid $500 a visit for each of us plus we had to drive 2 states away, stay in a hotel and eat out. The infectious disease doctor who was highly recommended, knew nothing (or worse yet, knew only that we needed 7 weeks of antibiotics) and told us that we did not have Lyme. He diagnosed my husband with Alzheimer's even though he did not have ANY of the symptoms! I was told it was " in my head " and was suggested that I go to a psychiatrist. Good insurance paid for him, or I would have fought him on that. Be careful of infectious disease doctors. My husband has now been diagnosed with Lyme induced Parkinson's and is in treatment for that. His appointments and meds are covered and he is doing well right now. Lyme sucks. Best of luck. Guest guest
I am near retirement and I ran into the same problem. The basic problem, as I see it is two fold....one, alot of doctors won't take medicare.....and many Lyme disease doctors are being harassed by the insurance companies for diagnoising Lyme. After two and a half years of being sick I went to a Lyme disease specialist that works with herbs....something called the Dr. Cowden protocol..... The doctor would NOT take insurance....so I have had to pay cash for treatments... I am very pleased with the treatment and the doctor but it is a pain that my insurance can't be used. As I see it the whole medical system has become corrupt. Clerks in the insurance company, the large drug companies and corruption in the research area have destroyed my confidence in the system. It is no longer about medical care....but about money. I also found out that the filling in my teeth are leaching mercury into my body.....which is aggravating the Lyme. The National Dental Association has threatened to take away the license of dentist that advertise that the mercury in their dental fillings contain mercury which is highly hazardous. My new Lyme disease doctor said my fillings are making my Lyme disease worse....mercury is especially toxic for lyme patients. (I did not know that). Once again it is about the money....not what is best for the patients. [ ] Re: Would someone please give their opinion? I began seeing my physician, when I only had private insurance.
