Guest guest
Val, I too had a low level of iron count when they found out I wasn’t absorbing protein. Unfortunately they didn’t know what to do about it and were considering putting me on a high protein liquid diet. However, that wouldn’t have solved the problem as my partner did some research and suggested I start taking betaine HCL with pepsin. This aids the absorption/digestion of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and starches. Since taking this my bloods are all normal as I am now absorbing the vitamins/nutrients from my diet and therefore also absorbing the supplements I am taking. Most of us don’t produce enough acid which results in Malabsorption of vitamin B12. It is well known that the stomach must be acid in order to absorb B12. Indeed, using a proton pump inhibitor such as Omeprazole, will reduce absorption of vitamin B12 to less than 1% of expected. Many people already suffer from borderline B12 deficiency - this is a difficult vitamin for the body to assimilate, but essential for normal biochemistry. I know many must be getting fed up with me going on about Betaine HCL with pepsin, but I can’t stress enough how it’s helped me and many others since I’ve posted about it on here. Below are a few links explaining the importance of addressing low stomach acid (it is so overlooked and could help with so many conditions):- http://www.charlespoliquin.com/ArticlesMultimedia/Articles/Article/27/Maximize_Your_Progress_with_Hydrochloric_Acid.aspxhttp://www.drmyattswellnessclub.com/GastricAcidFunction.htmhttp://www.drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Hypochlorhydriahttp://doctorariel.blogspot.com/2007/07/how-stress-depletes-precious-stomach.html I’d highly recommend you read this link about Digestive Impairment which explains in great detail http://www.medicalinsider.com/digestion.html#insufficient Introduction:Digestion of food gives us our energy and our nutrients. With this impaired, we do not have a solid foundation for life itself. Digestive disorders can be classed into basic three categories, acid/enzyme production, mucoid plaque and foreign organisms. After 1 year and nine months of Diarriah that just wouldn't go away I had none and started going 2 time a day. I am estatic. However, 3 weeks ago, before I started the LDN a blood test was taken to check the iron anemia that developed over a year ago. My red blood cell count was down to 8.0(it had dropped from 9.4 six weeks earlier) but my iron stores were within normal ranges(100-150). They thought it may be my cycle but when we took blood two weeks later, my Red Blood Count was still at 8.0 and my stores dropped to 19. Don't get me wrong 8.0 is an improvement from November's original test that yeilded 7.0. My first infusion took place in November, the second in December and the third today. The highest my Red Blood Cell count went was 9.4. Today I had another Iron Infusion performed. 7 hours. The answer I got was it my disease processes make my body unable to absorb iron. I asked how and what processes and was refered to my GI, the blood people couldn't get specific. I was also told that iron usually doesn't get flused out in urine.Logically speaking I know if the LDN is going to fix the blood situation it will take some more time. Emotionally speaking I am devasted(probably all that stuff they give you along with the ferritan talking). Has anyone seen their Iron stores and Red Blood Cell Count improve after LDN? I eat meat that has no antibiotics. I eat red meat, organic veggies like spinach, brocoli, zuchinni and squash. I drink orange juice, coconut H20, cherry juice and tomatoe juice. I take whole food prenatal vitamens and Vitamen B12 in a liquid form. I bought " Stop the Thyroid Madness " and will be going through it so I can go through my thyroid results and check my adrenals with my doctor. I will give myself a week to read up and make that appointment. I keep chasing these things down and would much rather be normal!OH yeah, my hair is not as thick as it used be, infact it had been falling out until I got my first two iron infusions. Guess what? It's falling out again!!!!! Help.Any advice? Thanks,Val
Guest guest
Hi Jayne, I fully agree with you on the importance of stomach acid. A few weeks ago I gave some tablets to a friend suffering from fibromyalgia who was at the end of her rope - especially as her stomach problems were giving her such a hard time. She had seen MDs who had given her stomach acid blockers which of course made her feel even worse. I got a message from her yesterday that the betaine tablets had been a life saver and that she is slowly getting better. Go on with the good job:-))) My best, Yannic On 1/04/2011 11:03, jaynelcrocker wrote: Val, I too had a low level of iron count when they found out I wasn’t absorbing protein.
