The company is Minnesota Life. I am not familar with either judydoc's list

or the medical whores article. Where can I find them. I am familar with the

disinissues list; I am not on it now. It's been very helpful with me filing my

second SSDI application.

Hi Chris!

Hello fellow SoCal resident.

I have THE doctor for you. He is the cream of the crop here in SoCal. His

name is Small and he runs Quantum Health Clinic

675 Washington Blvd

Marina Del Rey, CA 90292

310.305.7223

Or go to www.quantumdoctor.com quandomdoctor@...

I wish I had gone to him. I went to the guy that my sister went to in Santa

and he is good, don't get me wrong, but he's ALWAYS ON VACATION and

that can be very disheartening to someone trying to recover and wanting to

get in every 4 weeks. As it is I have seen him twice and it's always a bitch

to get an appointment w/ him. So hopefully you'll have great luck w/ .

I've heard nothing but amazing things about him.

Hi Sandi,

The Scoliosis Research Society site, www.srs.org , is a good place to start

when looking for a scoliosis specialist. They have a physician locator

section. You can then write to the specialist, closest to where you live and

ask if they would be able to see you or recommend someone in your area. If

you are interested in traveling to Canada, I have a list for British

Columbia but there is a long wait-list. The other site that might help is

The Scoliosis Association, www.scoliosis-assoc.org , as they do have a

chapter in Seattle and that president may have a list of doctors for

Washington State. If you can't find the Seattle chapter listed, please

e-mail me privately and I can then forward you the Seattle president's name

and contact information.

doctor recommendation

Hello, I had scoliosis diagnosed 35 years ago,,,and have not had surgery.

I have

stayed ahead of it with a lot of exercise, yoga, and flexibility work and

alternative

therapies. Lately, though, the past few years,,,,the pain seems to be

worsening.

What type of a doctor do I need to see? I am in Washington State. Does

anyone

have a name for me anywhere in the Pacific Northwest region? I think

maybe I

would prefer a scoliosis specialist,,but don't know where to start.

Neither does my

GP. Help!

Hi Sandi,

I would highly recommend my surgeon. Dr. Lloyd Hey, an Orthopaedic

surgeon @ Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC. He does over 100

Scoliosis surgeries per year. He is a wonderful Christian surgeon

who is sought out by people all over the USA and abroad. He use to

do all types of back surgeries, but has since, limited his focus on

Scoliosis and Kyphosis because of the volume of patients. I had my

surgery in 2003 and I couldn't be happier with the outcome! I, as

well as everyone I know that has been a patient of his, loves him!

You can read more about him by visiting his web-site @

http://www.lloydhey.com. On that website, you can fill out a form

that gives him information about your problems, pain etc. He will

reply to you quickly. Also, once you get on his website you can click

on " Patient Stories " . Then, click on the " Twisted Sister " story.

That is my story. Good Luck to you...and if you get an appointment,

tell him I said hello!

Kindest Regards,

Gail T.

Hi Sandi,

I live in Seattle and see Dr. Wally Krengle. His office is near

Overlake Hospital.

The other Scoliosis specialist I've had recommended to me is

Ted Wagner. His office is near Swedish Hospital.

Hello eatsushi@...,

In reference to your comment:

My father is based in Sacramento, CA. Can anyone recommend a specialist near the area for Achalasia? He's interested in the Cleveland Clinic, as -- based on our research -- it seems to be the place to go for this type of disorder. Can anyone offer tips on how to approach this (the first appointment, etc.). Does Medicare cover this?

I am not familiar with doctors in Sacramento, and hope that

if we have a member from there they will come forth with a

doctor for you. Below is a web site of doctor recommendations

and there are several listed in California.

achalasia/database?method=reportRows & tbl=1 & sortBy=1 & sortDir=down & start_at=26 & query=

The Cleveland Clinic is an excellent choice and several from this board have been there. I don't think your father can find a better place for any of the procedures or test he would need. I understand they have an entire center for swallowing and esophageal disorders. If it turns out that your father doesn't have Achalasia then they would be able to diagnose and treat whatever they find. I am listing below the web page containing Dr. Vaezi's information and several on this board have been to him. I am sure one of them will send you some additional tips and recommendations. If he needs or elects to have surgery, Dr Rice at Cleveland has done more myotomies I think than anyone in the US and maybe the world.

I understand that if they know you are coming from out of town

they can arrange most of the test, etc., all in one trip. Be sure to

ask about that. Jan on this board can tell you more about that

and maybe has some additional phone numbers.

CCF Staff Directory:Vaezi, M.D., Ph.D. Or

Cut and paste into browser

http://www.clevelandclinic.org/staff/getstaff.asp?StaffId=3186

A phone number is listed on the website. The hospital has a

toll free number 866-263-4029 and I feel sure you could call that

and be transferred to Dr. Vaezi's office.

I have not had the surgery, but medicare has paid for my scopes,

testing, and a dilatation so that should not be a problem.

Good luck,

Maggie

I went to Duke but my research also took me to the Cleveland Clinic. They claim they treat the most A. Another place I was impressed with was the Baylor in Houston. You need to set an appointment with a gastro guru. That person will do the diagnosis to verify you have A. Then he will give you treatment options and a recommendation for a surgeon if you choose that option. I thought the Heller myotomy was the best approach but you got to make that decision for yourself. If you would like to know my reasons I will be glad to tell you but I am sure there is enough info on this board that explains the pros and cons. Good luck

If you don't want to travel to Cleveland, you might want to consider seeing Dr.

Marco Patti

in San Francisco, CA . He is affiliated with UCSF. He performed my Heller

Mytomy on 9/3.

He is well known for his surgical ability and research concerning Achalasia.

You should

check the links section for articles which he has published. I'm not sure about

Medicare

but it's worth a call to his office.

A have been told that Sacramento's leading Achalasia GI is Dr.

Prindiville, with UCD. I have not yet met him, but the recommendation

is a consensus from a group of 7, very kind, GI's in the area with a

different group.

I found Dr. in Blue Shield's database, his info is

below for you, thank you Sandi for the recommendation. I may give him

a call myself if I don't ever get a response from Prindiville. He is

also with UCD & is near the other two but appears to have a different

office.

Dr. Terrado is not experienced in Achalasia.

All of the above are with UCD. I don't know if you are group confined

or to which group. Most health policies (except Kaiser) will allow you

to switch groups by switching general practitioners. It's pretty hard

to get a GP to refer you to a specialist with a different group, at

least with an HMO, can't speak for PPO etc.

However, if you are able, TCC seems to be the most widely accepted

Achalasia facility w/ the best doctors. Send out a TCC titled post and

you'll get all kinds of info from the members who have visited.

Hi Nate-Sorry to hear things have gotton worse for you.

My son age 13 has A and he just had his operation done Oct 27th at

the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio by DR Rice.He is known from many other

members here for doing there operations and being a huge success! It

was well worth our drive of many times and the long stay up there

while our son recovered.e are actually going back in a couple weeks

for a follow up.I strongly recccomend him as many people here also

will.

There are a few others though that are just as highly reccomended.I

am not too sure right off, but there are a few post on here about it

from where I asked a few weeks back-I will look it up tomorrow and

give you the info if no one elSe has by then.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED NATE?

Lets get your year started off by getting you with a good Achalasia

Dr!! I will work on this as soon as I get off work.

But Here is DR Rices number-He is a thoracic surgeon and is a

specialist in Achalasia and people come from all around for him.# 1

800-CCF-CARE ASK FOR HIS OFFICE .He will more than likley talk you

on the phone, ask you to bring up your test, and then he will want to

do them over himself to be sure of diagnosis. This is what he done

for me and another person anyway.Well talk again soon-Tonia

You can call Mayo and ask them who does Heller's myotomy for achalasia.

Ask who is the best and who does the most. You may get different

answers. Also I have found it good to ask who they would choose for

their family's needs. You may just get the same list of names no matter

how you ask. Other times you may notice that the person on the phone has

a definite personal choice. Mayo also has web sites. If you get a name

Google it with " mayo " and see what pops up.

See:

http://www.mayoclinic.org/clinical-update/21-2-05-supplement-achalasia.html

It provides a phone number for achalasia information, 507-284-8462.

Get a third opinion, or even a fourth. The couple hundred dollars it's cost

will be worth the peace of mind you'll get from having more choices. Check the

group's database for the names of other surgeons in NYC.

Hi Pearl,

I had revision surgery with Dr. Errico (not Schwab) in January of 2008 and I

can't speak more highly of him. He gave me my life back. I had

anterior/posterior surgery, but maybe things have changed since 2008. Whatever

the case may be, I would emphatically trust whatever he tells you. Good luck!

Hi Pearl - I think there are so many variables about revision, that making a

blanket statement regarding posterior only revisions is irresponsible &

incorrect. I am having my revision in 3 weeks with Dr Hu at UCSF. She is a

VERY highly regarded revision surgeon...and " yes " I will be having both

poterior & anterior surgeries. It really depends on the individual patient and

the severity of their condition. I think in your case that multiple second

opinions are needed and then you can make the decision for yourself. Three

years ago my second opinion doc said that I needed to have both surgeries. I

decided to go with the doc that said he could do it all in one. If I would have

listened to my second opinion doc, I wouldn't be needing ANOTHER two surgeries

now. I hope you get the answers you need. Sincerely............Kathy
