Guest guest
Hi Pearl, I can't speak for others who have had the A/P surgery, but I did have the " Posterior only " surgery with Dr Errico and Dr Dryer almost 3 years ago. It worked out great for me, and I am thankful for not having to get my gut cut in the front too. But, I am guessing that a lot depends on your particular situation and your particular scoliosis curve. I am honored and blessed to have had one of these new surgeries and I was thrilled that they were able to do mine entirely through my back only. Guest guest
Hi Donna, I had revision surgery in Feb 08 with Dr Errico and Dr Dryer. I am one of the people who had the new.. " posterior only " full revision surgeries. I can say with a tear in my eye and gladness in my heart, it has worked out beautifully for me so far. I do feel very blessed and honored to have been a patient of Drs. Errico and Dr Dryer from NYU. They are a dream team as far as I am concerned. <<Carol NY > > > > > > > > I am in New York and I am looking to have my surgery done end of May or > > June. Guest guest
Hi Carol! I don't know about " new posterior only " because I had surgery in January of 2008, probably only a few days prior to you. I think it really depends upon what they are doing that requires anterior/posterior versus posterior only. However, we are both doing well so that's all that matters! Guest guest
Hi Donna, So you and I are revision -alumni buddies from 2008. ? LOL Yes, I agree that the approach/decision that the doctors choose for each patient, is absolutely individual for sure. My surprise was that I was told for 19 years ago by 3 different docs that I will be needing A/P surgery for my rapidly progressing flatback syndrome. By 2008, I was a mess. The pain levels were indescribable, and I was so far pitched over to my right that I felt like I was literally breaking in half. I was walking with a cane, leaning on shopping carts, severely disabled. My life had become totally unmanageable and frankly, hell. I had severe flatback syndrome,in every sense of the word. I needed a complete " redo " and overhaul. I have the " S " curve..the double major curvature. I had my first Scolio/ Harrington rod surgery back in 1974. My recent revision was quite extensive. It goes from the top of my spine all the way down to my sacrum. I was told for 8 years I needed A/P surgery. But when it came down to weeks before my scheduled revision they called me up and said they can do the entire thing through my back only. I was amazed and thrilled. Of course terrified of the revision surgery but relieved to some extent that they would be able to get-r- done like this, and all in one day. It was a 14 hour surgery. I came through it, and life on the other side of that dreaded flatback syndrome is much better. So, I traded in my one Harrington rod and I am now sporting 2 new rods on either side of my newly revised spine. : ) Plus I have a " cage " , screws, etc back there as well. I tell everyone I have most of Home Depot in my back now. LOL >>Carol > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am in New York and I am looking to have my surgery done end of May or > > > > June.
