Hi Patty,

I understand and can relate to what you are experiencing. This was one of my

chief complaints when Lyme started for me. It began for me with incredible bouts

of diarrhea, vomiting, followed by the esophageal spasms. They terrified me

because it did feel like a heart attack! I had all the heart tests done as you

and everything was fine.

Have you began treatment for Lyme yet? Do you know if there are any

co-infections involved? I believe that once you begin treatment these spasms

should become less. I still have them from time to time, but not as often as

before. If you should have any other questions, feel free to email me.

Regards,

Edith

Hi to All,

Has anyone else suffered from esophageal spasms as one

of the many symptoms of Lyme?

They are horrible. My esophagus goes into spasms, which

creates pain anywhere from mild to intense, and lasts anywhere

from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.

The pains usually begin in my lower jaw and sometimes spread up

into my upper jaw and nose. Most often they spread down into my

throat and the center of my chest, into both arms, sometimes all of

the way down into my hands. It feels just like a heart attack.

I've had the cardiac workup, and these pains/spasms are not being

caused by my heart.

I've read a little about esophageal spasms and it seems that they

originate in the brain - wrong signals are sent to the esophagus

and it goes into spasms. I don't have any problems with swallowing

or tightness in my throat when they happen - just PAIN.

For those of you who have had children, when these spasms happen,

they feel just like labor pains.

They used to happen only occasionally, but for the past two months,

I've been getting them every day and anywhere from two to ten times

a day. They stop me in my tracks because the pain is so intense.

I was just curious to know if anyone else suffers with them.

Thanks for " listening " .

Patty
