Guest guest
Hi Vickie, I have sulfation problems and I had a terrible reaction to the infared saunas last year. It stirred up the heavy metals and because I was so blocked it just moved them around. Lots went into my brain. My concern is that I might not tolerate that wood because of my MCS. Has anyone with MCS and sulfur intolerance had good results using a sauna? Sauna is one of the primary treatments at Dr. Rea's clinic in Dallas, but they combine sauna treatments with IV amino acids, vitamins, minerals, etc. Thanks, Vickie This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
Thanks so much, Sue, for telling me about your experience. Have you found anything that helps you detox without causing a terrible reaction? Activated charcoal seems to be the only thing I have found, but I have trouble fitting it into my daily schedule of meds, food, and supplements. It needs to be taken on an empty stomach separate from everything else. I am working on healing my gut. Guest guest
Hi Vickie, I used a wood FIR sauna at a new chain of Health spa called 5R; see www.5rhealth.com . Their wood FIR sauna caused no adverse reaction in my case. This Korean Company has a system that involves a special vinegar " Oaky Smoky " , vibexir, & FIR Sauna for improving your health. I might not tolerate that wood because of my MCS. > Sauna is one of the primary treatments at Dr. Rea's clinic in > Dallas, Dr. Rea is an M.D. and the founder of the Environmental Health Center – Dallas. He is well known for treating some of the most chemically sensitive and chemically injured people on the planet. He has detoxed over 30,000 patients, using saunas as a primary modality with many of them. For the past 15 years or so, he has exclusively recommended one brand of sauna for his patients for aftercare – Heavenly Heat. Most of his patients go through their therapy using one of these saunas. Dr. Rea understands and appreciates our (I am the owner) commitment to building truly safe saunas for his extremely chemically sensitive and fragile patients. Dr. Liebermann in SC has treated more than 10,000 chemically sensitive patients over the past several decades using saunas. He too recommends only Heavenly Heat saunas for his patients' aftercare usage. Patients diagnosed with MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) in Canada can go through a government-sponsored detox regime in Nova Scotia in a program developed by Dr. Roy Fox. In preparing their clinic about 10 years ago, Dr. Fox, a longtime customer of ours, contacted Heavenly Heat to build their chemically safe sauna. Recently, we have provided the heating for 4 saunas used in Manhattan and Long Island to treat the 9/11-injured. The firefighters, in particular, suffered massive heavy metal exposures. Since we began building saunas specifically for the chemically ill in 1989, we have been imitated world-wide by many companies in the usage of non-resinous wood. This is apparently done so companies can widen their markets and become able to promote their saunas as " chemically safe " or " non-toxic " or " hypoallergenic " . None of the several so-marketed saunas that I've looked at are made even remotely close to an appropriate manner for someone with MCS. The use of low-resin wood may get a company's foot in the door, so to speak, with chemically injured folks, but the more critical factors for construction safety are typically not mentioned or are misrepresented: the extent of adhesive usage, the use of varnish, the concealment of other species of wood in the framing that may, in fact, be exactly what the customer is trying to avoid, the use of laminates or plywood, the lack of an adequate air change system – common in FIR saunas, and the emission of very high EMFs from the heaters. We successfully addressed all of these issues many years ago. Some folks who have had adverse reactions with FIR saunas have been led to believe that the sauna was chemically safe, so they will then logically conclude that they were detoxing too fast. Often, they are apparently being told that they were using the sauna at too high a temperature or staying in too long. I am absolutely certain that oftentimes the actual reality is that they're trying to detox in a very toxic environment. We have received numerous reports of adverse FIR sauna reactions, always in brands of saunas that we know to be toxic, but you'd certainly never think they would be toxic by how they're promoted. If you wish to know more about our saunas, please contact me at 800- 697-2862 info @ heavenlyheatsaunas. If you just want to know more about saunas in general, or about infrared, please feel free to ask questions. Bob

Guest guest
I have one & I love it! If you are sweating - toxins are coming out I personally don't see any reason to measure. I feel better & that is what I go from. Very relaxing... Marisha > > Has anyone here used or planning to use a Far Infrared sauna for detoxing? If so, how do you know if it is working? How and what do you test (urine, blood, sweat) to see if metals are coming out? Guest guest
There is a group run by one of the vendors of the IR sauna, High Tech Health. Sheryl runs the group. She will be at the DAN conference in DC. She is very knowledgable and can answer your questions. To sign up for the group go to www. Search for the group using high tech health and the group which is " hightechhealth " should be number 7 or so on the list. Follow the instructions to sign up and Sheryl will happily answer all your questions. Your can also try hightechhealth/ once you are logged into the We use the sauna and have found it very helpful for detoxification. Difficult to measure but Sheryl can help you with this. Guest guest
WE have one and also covet it. We use it at night and both tend to sleep better and feel great afterwards. Also no nothing about how to measure the amount of metals coming out. Don't think such a test exists. I believe in the tech. though. Also doesn't matter to me how much is coming out. My formerly ASD son uses it periodically (though not as much as I would like) and sweats like crazy in there. We also bought ours from High Tech Health and truly truely love it. Not much info...but anecdotal. > > Has anyone here used or planning to use a Far Infrared sauna for detoxing? If so, how do you know if it is working? Guest guest
I'm mostly a lurker, but have been specifically been treated for Lyme since my Western Blot test came back with many positive bands last March. Both of the Dr.s I've seen have highly recommended getting a Far Infrared Sauna. Wow - the choices are many. Have any of you used one, bought one, and have any help in which direction to look? My Husband and I have decided to get one so we're collecting suggestions right now. My new protocol has DeToxing at the top of the list and the top top of that list is a Far Infrared Sauna. So thank you ahead of time for your suggestions. desertnettie
Guest guest
I have a Miracle Heat three man sauna and love it. It is made in Pryor, OK. I believe their website is miracleheat.com. I've had it about three years. Kenda > I'm mostly a lurker, but have been specifically been treated for Lyme > since my Western Blot test came back with many positive bands last > March. Guest guest
I've been looking into these for a couple of years now, but have yet to put down any money on one. Still, I've come to the conclusion that this is one of those things that you can pretty safely go on price with. (There are a lot of things in life where it's worthwhile to pay a little extra because you really do get what you pay for. FIR saunas don't seem to be one of them.) Most of the companies out there make fairly equivalent products, with a similar set of features. The only difference is in the size of the markup they take. Which means your best bet is to establish your basic requirements (Size? Number of lamps? Indoor or outdoor? Sound system and accessories? Glass or wood door?) and then find a discounter who's offering something that meets them. There are probably a few people in your city who are probably charging way too much -- but it's worthwhile to go visit them and see the merchandise in person. When I finally take the plunge, though, I'll almost certainly be buying off the web because the prices are so much better. Things to look for: Hemlock or other neutral wood that doesn't offgas. IR lamps in the proper therapeutic range (most of them have this, but a few fudge). Easy assembly. Glass doors are preferable because wood ones tend to warp over time. I'd want a sound system I could plug my iPod into -- this is a new feature that's starting to hit the market this year. Pay close attention to delivery charges: some companies will ship and even set up for free; others will soak you for several hundred dollars. Historically, FIR saunas have been made in the US or Canada by small mom-and-pop shops, which is part of why the pricing can be so competitive. However, in the past year, we've started to see a wave of Chinese imports. I haven't seen any in person yet, so I can't vouch for their quality -- but this development has forced a drop in prices across the board. If you want to try before you buy, a lot of alternative practitioners are setting up FIR saunas in their offices. If you can find one in your neighborhood, they'll probably charge you $25 or so for an hour's treatment. It may be worth doing this to see how you respond to it. (I did this, and herxed HARD for days afterward.) Let us know what you end up with. I'm thinking this may be what I want for Christmas. Guest guest
Thank you for your suggestions and comments. We did pick one and it should be delivered early next week. We picked a hemlock one that the dealer assures us won't 'off-gas'. It has the features that we were recommended, heaters in front back and on sides, and got a small one. I'll let you all know how it works out. We paid nearly $2000.00 so I hope it really is a help in my treatment! desertnettie > > I'm mostly a lurker, but have been specifically been treated for Lyme > since my Western Blot test came back with many positive bands last > March.
