Guest guest
Â From Dr. Rowen.... January 13, 2010 Leafy extract reverses atherosclerosis and dangerous cholesterol Here's a dandy pearl that might save your life. I've repeatedly reported on the wonders of phytochemicals and your health. This one is a plant leaf that reverses atherosclerosis lesions. In a recent study, researchers studied mice that were deficient in the protein apolipoprotein E. This protein is crucial in lipid metabolism in mice as well as you. In this study, the researchers fed the mice a chow containing 1% mulberry leaf for 12 weeks. Those fed the mulberry-supplemented chow had an amazing 40% reduction in their atherosclerotic lesions in their aortas. Mulberry extract also slowed oxidation of lipids in the test tube, a possible mechanism of action. The authors concluded that mulberry leaf might help prevent atherosclerosis. This report caused me to look deeper into mulberry. Its leaves contain rather significant amounts of flavonoids. These are in the quercetin family. Mulberry also has attenuated diabetes in animals. If you have atherosclerosis, this very inexpensive herb might be a healing ticket. It is readily available online and in most health food stores. And the slow oxidation of lipids may help keep your cholesterol healthy. So if you have high cholesterol, mulberry is a must to keep your LDL from oxidizing. I think we'll see much more on mulberry in the future. Yours for better health and medical freedom, J. Rowen, MD Ref: Harauma, A., T. Murayama, et al.
